Man all I see is Gary from Skateline when I hear that music.

I can't see how the crank mechanism works to turn colour disk.

This video is a good start. It seems to be missing something though. At the end the viewer is turning a hand crank to spin the graphics at the other end. But, they don't say anything about how that mechanism is attached or how it works. Grrrrr.

Did you find out how to do this?

It spins from the PVC rod that goes through the eye bolts. The rod spears the cardboard with the images on it, and when you use the crank end to turn the rod, the images turn as well.

Great tutorial! I'm having a lot of trouble finding such narrow mirrors. Where did you get those?

Michelle David Hi Michelle, we were able to get the mirrors from a second hand store and used a glass cutter tool to get them to the proper size. It was very to use the tool.

SPIETV Thanks for the tip! I ended up purchasing acrylic mirror sheets instead since I will be transporting my kaleidoscope and wanted something very durable.

You can also use aluminum foil covering something

U have to cut to size

Mirror cuts the same as glass. All you need is a glass cutter, straight edge and flat surface to cut on. You could use those inexpensive "door" mirrors. Lowe's and Target have them for less than $10. They are about 14" wide. You could cut that down the middle to get 2 7" wide by 48" long mirrors. They are fairly thin so you have to be careful handling them. But you could always adhere them to a backing board to strengthen them.
