- Adding a Google My Business cover photo to your listing is a piece of peace, right? Just login to your google my business dashboard, go to photos then add a beautifully crafted cover photo that best represent your business and voilà.
But when you check your listing, you realize your preferred Google my business cover photo is not showing. Instead, some random photo is displaying. And even when you try updating it, nothing changes. Why, and what can you do about it?

I followed the instructions and the GMB listing now shows the photo I created.
I had the image in Canva, so all I had to do was to resize it.

Excellent information thank you Luc. It's interesting, I did have a webpage header set, however this wasn't showing. Google still preferred to use another image. I updated and it and the new image was immediately displayed. Interesting to see if google decides if another image is more relevant over time.

Thank you, very helpful. Question - where are you getting the cover photo image dimension sizes? I've looked through Google's documentation and don't find those sizes anywhere (referring to 2121 x 1192 cover photo image size) Thanks!
Trial and error but It's more the ratio than the dimensions you need to worry about so I'm sure 2121x1192 will also work

Hi Luc, excellent content as always. Question: I have a very good video that I already posted to "videos" on our profile, I have to trim it since it's like 2 minutes long so I have posted like 4 separate videos of it. Do you know any good tricks to upload videos to the "Cover" area? I have tried with a section of this video and even though this one is posted, I cannot upload it as a "cover"... I decided to upload the CZcams URL of the video to the "Menu" link on the profile...just because I don't see anyplace where to include it. Were not a restaurant, but a dental office. Do you think we will get penalized or traffic would be damaged? Any input would be welcomed on both issues. Thanks
You can't use videos as a cover. Only images. I would also suggest you use a normal menu as opposed to a video. That's what people would want to see.

Your videos are extremely helpful! Thank you. One question, the business is 100% verified but pictures are still not getting approved. All within picture guidelines. My wife has a women’s clothing boutique so nothing offensive. Just models in clothes. Not sure what to do.
Hi Brent. It could be that the AI is wrongly identifying the images which would result for them to be flagged as being against the guidelines. Hard to tell without seeing the photos. I would suggest you either try getting in touch with google directly or ask someone at the support community. There are many similar cases to yours already raised. support.google.com/business

Although it uploaded and previewed ok, it just wouldn't actually take the format as a final version. Do you think Google has worked it out or is only available on certain accounts? I thought as we are both in the UK it would be the same on my end as yours
Hi Zane. It can take up to 24 hours for the images to show so give it a bit more time.

Hi. Thanks for your video's. Can you tell us how do you navigate to find the free website in the new "Google business profile" ??? Very frustrating trying to find things which were easily accessible before in the GMB dashboard since Google has decided to switch to search view and no option to revert it back !! Mapping all this out and showing where everything can be found in the new profile would be a VERY popular video!!!
Hi Eric. Love your suggestion about making such video. I will get on it today. In the meantime, If you want to edit your website, once you've logged into your account and brought up your profile Click on the edit profile icon. From the pop-up window click on the contact menu link. From there click on the pencil icon next to the website link. You should see an option that says" Your current website is created with Google" click on the button "manage" right under it. It will take you to the backend of your free website where you can make updates.

I have requested it now 3 times but so frustrating since there is no indication on the account that there is a problem. Any advice?

Sometimes this is from not having enough verifiable signals out there for the business. e.g FB biz page, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp listing, Trustpilot, website
Well I'm just seeing this video, and while I found it quite informative and helpful, it doesn't seem to be working. Perhaps I need to edit my cover photo and try again. I was following other guidelines for uploading the best Google website cover photo but it seems that may conflict with what you're saying to do; especially if getting this photo to show in the sidebar results is the goal (which it is). Like many, I'm growing tired of random photos that I know don't represent my business well (whether Google does or not) and want the photo I choose to be used. I really don't understand why this just isn't the case to begin with. Big tech always thinking they know better than us, perhaps?

Hi Curtis. Sadly your google my business listing doesn't belong to you but to Google. The cover photo may change based on what Google think is most appropriate, it's even mentioned in their guidelines. This is why you can't always display what you want. This video is only a work around and unfortunately doesn't work for certain verticals. It sounds like it could be your case :-(

Great content - Thanks... i have several images I've uploaded to GMB profile that have been classified as "Not Approved" due to dimensions. I cant for the life of me work out how to delete them in the new Aug 2022 GMB layout - Any ideas ?
log into the account associated with your listing. Search for "my business" on Google. In your main listing panel click on Photos. From there you should be able to delete any image

I've got a bit of a problem though. After I enter the Photo gallery & clicked on the photo that needs to be removed.. They do not have a Delete Button , instead they have a Flag sign & this is not helping us (as we have flagged the image a numerous no of times). Could you help me with any other option that can be used to remove the fake image portraying as cover photo.

It sounds like the image you are talking about was not posted by yourself (or the account holder) but instead by a random user. This would be why you can't remove it. It will be very difficult to get google to delete it so make sure you use the technique explained in the video to replace it with an image of your choice

Help! I've added the photo a bunch of times and while it displays as 'cover photo' in the photos section, it's still displaying some other image.
Sometimes this hack doesn't work and you can't change the photo. Google decides for you instead

Sadly this hack doesn't work 100% of the time. Try using a different photo if the one you are trying to show doesn't get picked by google.

I don't know what adobe spark is. I can only assume Google is compressing the picture automatically which may result in quality loss

Replacing the picture should be enough and you shouldn't have to do anything else. Unfortunately for some profiles changing the main image on the free google website won't change it on their business panel.

I tried exactly to do it, like on the video, but I always shows the google street view instead of the title-image. Every time I want to upload the titleimage to the Google Website the uploaded image (JPG, 2121x1192px, but also smaller ones until 800px) disappear from the website after refreshing.
Really. Sounds very strange to me that you can't even load the image on the free website. I have to admit I have never come across this scenario.

Hi Venkata. If you have 3 separate branches in 3 different locations, you should create a listing for them individually. If it's for the same business, you should use the same business name.
