- Can you set up a google my business listing if you don't have a brick and mortar store? The answer is yes but google my business guidelines apply.
Depending on your business model, creating a GMB listing will vary a great deal from one business to another.
Whether you run a home-based business or are visiting customers at their homes, you will have to be careful how you set up your listing if you want to avoid suspension.

Thanks Sherri. It kind of makes sense if you think about it. Otherwise anyone would be able to create hundreds of virtual businesses at a very low cost and spam Google maps.

They are looking for new ad revenue streams. forces many to pay for ads.

Just add the areas in which your business operates. It's not because you can add up to 20 that you should.

If you are a realtor I assume you operate in the area where your live. What I recommend is to set up a listing from your home, don't show the address and set it up as a service area listing

Hi, Thanks for the great video. Is it recommended to add interior and exterior photos for an IT software company( Service industry). And if doing so, will it give any advantage in google rankings.
If you think visitors will benefit from seeing photos (interior or exterior) add them. It won't help you rank higher.
Thank you - I had no idea you could list 'service area' and not have a bricks and mortar address. My listing which was a virtual address, had just got pulled. Hopefully I'll get reinstated now. 👍 One question though - if people say in Marylebone search for 'electrician near me' will we come up, from listing just the area, while not having the bricks and mortar address?
Listing areas doesn't have an influence on where you rank. It is for the benefit of users. Google knows where your business is located anyway. If you are near enough the customer and your business is relevant you will be listed

hey thanks for the helpful videos i have a couple questions. my service demolition and remodeling business was open at my last address and it was on a google domain i paid for. i changed info it got suspended i couldn't fix it so i started a new profile with new email then that one i got verified by post card again but then i moved and i couldn't get them verified no more so i made another new profile and business at my new address so i got another card or two in the mail but the codes done work and i made a few profiles with a few different emails maybe deleted a couple profiles. so my buisness was never verified again at my new address and i got 3 different post letters with the pin numbers but they don't work and i got duplicate profiles not sure which ones which so deleted them..im in a huge mess what is best do you know how i can recover a verified deleted business with the google domains i first got them verified with and how do i recover?

So, from what I can understand, we just messed up with Google My Business, because we started a business a couple of months ago, for now totally online, and, therefore, is not eligible. We produce and sell jewelry and it is home based. Should we just shut down our Google my business account and rely on our website? Can we suffer some penalty from doing such? If you have managed to claim a listing consider it as a bonus. There are plenty of non eligible businesses who have done the same. The problem comes if Google finds out. They will suspend your listing. You won't suffer any penalty. The listing will just disappear. It could last a month, a year, maybe 10. Make the most of it while you can but don't invest too much time on it unless you are able to make it eligible.

Hello, great video. When I set up my business on GMB in Sept 2021 - i did not want my home address to show as I am a service area business providing mobile oil change and tire change services at customers' location. At the time I was guided to put in the address first and then I will have option to hide it. However I was never able to hide it. I went to to the google community and was told to change my category to auto repair shop with mobile service.. but I am not, and even so i still did not find that option. Is there a way to fix this after the fact to hide my physical address.? I hate that customers know where I live. Occasionally a customer may have to come to my location at home because for example they live in a condo corporation and not allowed to do an oil change on the premises, but that is very rare. A second issue I am having is that I was notified recently (like everyone else I guess) that GMB will now be transferred to Maps or search. I am 100% verified; however a few customers left reviews after service in the last week and they are not showing up on google. Does one have anything to do with the other? Help please.
To hide your address you need to remove it all together from your listing then specify the areas in which you operate. The closest category to what you offer seems to be tyre shop. When I created my GMB account while registering the biz, I chose NO with regards to a physical address customers can walk up to although my address is displayed on my business profile. Would like to know if I can create an order ahead link in the info section of the GMB page or is that link only specific to restaurant businesses and store owners ?

No. Hybrid businesses are businesses that serve customers from a brick-and-mortar location as well as serving customers at their homes. Neither mobile mechanic nor handyman fall into that category.

Hi Yasser. Yes they absolutely can. I work with service area businesses who are doing very well, although having an address would seem to be advantageous
it seems like you may not get much if any traffic without an address maybe long ago but any new listings seem to not get traffic especially if you have a lot of competitors. my guess is old listings got traffic & nows survive off built up relevancy. its likely you have to pay or manually ask for reviews, a bunch of pics, & see what happens. you can test this theory by googling keywords that fit you bizz & see what comes up. If you see business w no address see how many pics they have reviews & so on. its likely they were listed b4 2022. you also don't get the same insights & menus as one with address,. I managed google accounts for businesses trust me.

The only thing I'm concerned about is it's not an actual "business," meaning I don't have it as an LLC. I just call it a tutoring "business" because I have a few people I tutor. Will I get in trouble posting it as a Google Business on Google if it's not an actual business?

Hi Amanda. As long as you are able to prove it is an actual business you should be fine. So at least a business licence or some utility bills with the business name on it. Just in case Google ever needs you to prove you are legitimate.

I am setting up a home fragrance business (candles, wax melts etc) and I make them from home. I will be selling them through an online store/website for example Shopify and will be selling occasionally face to face E.g markets, pop up shops etc. As I am mainly an online store does this mean I cannot have a Google Business Profile? I’m confused because I see loads of other online candle stores with Google profiles collecting their reviews and ranking.
If a customer happens to be in close proximity to where I live I will hand deliver it or have them pick it up from my home studio but I don’t want to list my home address online for the public to see. How can I get over this please?

Hi Luc! Question: as an online course creator, my business is nearly all-virtual, EXCEPT, I do occasionally go to people's houses or event spaces to hold in-person talks / group workshops. Could this qualify me for 1 of of the 3 appropriate types of GMB listings?
According to Google's guidelines if you travel to visit customers where they are they you are eligible for a listing so it would seem you can create a listing. If you do, I would also recommend you create a website. I couldn't find one for your business

I've been grinding creating my own business contacts. Whew! I hope I can get reinstated. After this video I think the problem was that I used my UPS address. I never receive mail at my home of any kind and I always use the UPS address for business and personal, so I did not think it was a big deal. Thank you.
Google sucks I get my listing video verified then my competitor is somehow flagging it getting it removed then we appeal and it doesn't meet google guidelines

Listings can't rank for an entire state, let alone two. Not sure what line of business you're in but generally speaking a listing will rank within 3 to 7 miles from the address at which it was verified, max

I added my home address but my video verification dint go through, my postcard verification also failed and my account is not live and it showed it’s suspended. Any suggestion what I can do ? To get my listing up ?
Does your location (your home) have permanent signage outside your house? Do you have official documentation that proves you operate a business from your home?

As odd as it might sound, and whether you like it or not, I think it's best to 'serve customers at your location' (whether you want to or not), because that way, at least you get a visible pin on a map, with a sab, you don't, and I suspect that makes you less visible!
So how do you suggest people such as electricians and plumbers serve customers at their location?

Yes you can but you may need to prove at some point you operate a legitimate business from the address you have specified so make sure you have permanent signage outside of your house

Hi Raf. Yes absolutely. Just delete the address from your business panel and make sure you add the service areas you serve in the "service area" field

Your location is based on the address where you should have received the post card card containing the verification code.

@@rankingacademy Heyy so when i was creating the business profile it said start building your business profile and it have business category but when I search for vehicle repair it said “We didn't understand your category. Please select from the suggestions that appear when typing”. So in the business category there’s no such thing as vehicle repair for me 😒. If i choose mechanic they are asking for an address which leads to I can’t create a business account without having an address.

I thought I had mine set up with an address and I was thrilled when I found this. I logged in and it turned out that I was already set up as a service area. Yet, for some odd reason, it will only let me verify with a video (which I can't do). When I click OTHER OPTIONS it does not give me other options. I am stuck!

Hello I teach music the store front is mot mine I listed the address but my hours of operations are different the the studio, there hours are 12 noon to 12 midnight mine are 12noon to 4pm my only choice is to list my times as the same hours as the studio, I rent on a day to day as needed basis is there a workaround for this?

Utility bills (electricity, phone, cable, internet etc) for the business. If so then ask for a reinstatement

Is your business a local business? Will you be dealing with customer face to face? if so yes you can create a listing before it opens. If not, you won't be eligible for a listing

Hi Nathan. I'm not sure what you mean by "I can't get verified" Did google suspend the listing you were trying to claim? Which verification method did they suggest when you went through the process?

Yes. You need to set up your listing as a service area business and add the location in which you operate

Yes you can. Make sure you post pictures of your front store on your listing With your logo clearly being displayed.
You may need to go through a video verification process when you claim your listing but if you have a legitimate storefront it shouldn't be a problem.

My accounting business was just suspended after moving to a co-working space (from a home-based location). Their email says because of a 'quality' issue. I think it's because my new location is a co-working place. I showed them how I was listed on the company directory of the business in the lobby but still was suspended. Any ideas? There are other businesses in that space with a google business map listing so I'm not sure why I'm having issues and they aren't. For Google to accept co-working location, it says "that office maintains clear signage, receives customers during hours and it staffed by business staff". Does that mean the co-working office's signage or mine? Obviously if I only rent a room a day here or there, a sign like that wouldn't be mine. Can I just try to relist my business with a new name? Would that work?
Trying to claim a listing with a new name won't work especially if you use the same phone number and website. It's likely your listing will be automatically suspended.
To answer your question:
"office maintains clear signage, receives customers during hours and it staffed by business staff". Does that mean the co-working office's signage or mine? It means your business.
Unless you're able to prove the space you occupy in the office is yours on a permanent basis you won't be able to claim a listing. While many businesses get away with it, it's just a matter of time before they get caught too and suspended. My advice, find a permanent location that is eligible in Google's eyes.

I guess you'll have to let them know via your website. I would strongly recommend you change your mind and display your address though
Running into a new verification issue. Got a local service based business set up in GMB exactly like you teach. However, Google is now demanding a video verification for his listing. He doesn't want to use his home address, but does have a virtual mailbox suite address. Do you have a recommendation for how service based businesses (that don't want to use their home address) can video verify?
Firstly you shouldn't use a virtual mailbox suite address as it is against Google's guidelines. To verify an SAB using video you'll need to show items such as the specialised tools you use to do your job, vehicles with your logo on them, professional software (if applicable), branded documents and anything else you might feel relevant.

My client ended up using a virtual mailbox address but still hid it. Video upload didn't work so contacted google directly, they allowed him to do a live google meet video and approved the business immediately.
Is it possible to have a listing for an aquitect that design houses or buildings but does not have physical office?. All the meetings are online. Plus does services in two countries?

If you don’t make in person contact with people you are not eligible for a listing, so in your case the answer would be no

This is the same thing I have been telling people & when I run into this kind of business, I report them! Question though, I have been trying to figure out a way to make money on this? I find them all the time and report them but when I call the business to tell them that they are in violation of Google's guidelines they say they'll get ahold of their SEO company. I want them to say how can you help me? there has to be a way that we can monetize these kinds of incidents because we are following Google's guidelines and all of these other people are not? What am I missing?
You're not missing anything Franck. Until google decides to enforce its own guidelines then sadly it will keep happening

Hello i am from Canada i have an issue with the google map . May i know how to remove the old business sing from google and put mine instead beacause when the customer search my address by dood number it gives them the oldest business sing but when they searche by the name of my store they find out my business's sing so can you help me please to fix this beaucause the customers are believing me that i am locally existing in this address please please i really appreciate if you can help for this thanks .
You can't remove a listing. Can you not claim the existing listing as yours?
I'm having issues getting verified. I own a video agency and we travel to locations. I created us as a service based business but it says "Your access has been disabled because this profile doesn’t follow the guidelines. Edit your business info, and learn how to regain access". It won't tell me what I did wrong though. Should I scrap it and start ANOTHER one? Also the reinstate form says I need an address. But P.O. Boxes aren't eligible. What address should I use then? My personal address?
This is probably why you're being rejected. PO box aren't allowed. Use your home address instead
I have a service business and I have done all those steps but unfortunately i only still have video as the only option of verification. Nothing else pops up.

That makes you a hybrid type of business so display your address + add the service areas you serve
I hate Google. I am a legal business (registered with the correct departments), I am 100 percent compliant with Google rules, yet my business is suspended and Google won't fix it.
Have you tried raising the issue in the google business profile community? support.google.com/business/community?

Hi Luc! I´m running a virtual interior design business based in Germany. So far I had customers from Australia and the US because I offer my services worldwide. I tried to get a Google My Business Page. Unfortunately, it was rejected. I indicated that I offer my services in Germany, the USA and Australia. I guess that´s the problem, right? Or do I miss anything else aswell?
Hi Patrick. If you don't meet your clients physically (they come to you or you go to them) then you're not eligible for a listing. It is only for local businesses

Which theoretically can happen, but will generally be rather atypical. If that would solve the problem, how can I proceed to explain this credibly to Google.
I wish u had elaborated more on hybrid category. I created 2 listing n both keeps asking for me to do a video verification showing store front. I selected Photo Booth. This is do frustrating.
Hybrid or not it makes no difference. It's likely you'd still had to do a video verification anyway. Google is using this method more and more.
@@rankingacademy I did some tweaking yesterday n got it to do a postal verification so will see. But it's annoying they don't have a photo booth rental category.
I recently moved locations and cleared the address since I was having verification issues. The old address and pin still show up on Maps/Search after verification even though I don’t an address listed on the info anymore. Any tips?
What verification issues were you initially having? Was the business verified or not?

Just log into your dashboard then click on edit info. Remove your address and add service areas instead

It is technically allowed to share the same location as long as the businesses are distinct enough. I'm assuming these are brick and mortar businesses. If so, make sure they are registered with appropriate state, have a unique TAX ID with which you file separate taxes, you meet face-to-face with customers and have a unique phone number. Then you should be OK

I've had my wife's home child care centerin the US on Google Business for years and they recently disabled the account. They said it's a store front and requires permenant signange. I would consider it a home based business per your video. Is home based only allowed in the UK or did they possible change criteria to store front and service area only?
Hi Kevin the address you use is irrelevant. What is important is your business type:
- If you are a service-based type of business that visits customers at their homes (electrician, plumber) you can use your home address. Instead of showing your address on your listing, you need to specify the areas in which you operate.
- If customers come to you (which is your case) then you'll be considered a physical storefront. The fact that your listing has been active for years is irrelevant. You were picked up by Google who now wants to see you legitimately operate a business at the address you specified (your home). And one of the prerequisites is to have permanent signage outside your storefront (in this case your home) that shows this is where the business is based. So make sure you get this set up before asking for reinstatement, otherwise, google won't do anything about it.

He won't be eligible to claim a listings in cities where he doen't make physical contact with customers

I'm having terrible trouble with GMB for my web design and digital marketing business. GMB are asking me for signage, company registration despite the fact that I have told them that I use co-working space and work at my customers businesses. I'm up against a lot of local competition from other web designers who all have GMB listings. So not really sure what to do next

Unfortunately businesses can’t list an office at a co-working space unless that office maintains clear signage, receives customers at the location during business hours, and is staffed during business hours by your business staff. Unless you fulfil these criteria, it is unlikely you will be able to get a listing

You can have multiple business at the same address as long as they are distinct. Different websites, different phone numbers, different business categories

I've had this business about 2 years and just realizing that Google is showing my service area as being much bigger than it is. Why is the actual map showing a much larger area? Can I move the line to narrow the area?
The boundaries are defined based on the service areas you added to your profile. Just log into your profile and modify the area to change the boundaries
