- This backyard was in dire need of some tender loving care! It looked as if it hadn't been maintained in years, was very overgrown, neglected and a real mess. We were tasked with the restoration of the entire backyard and the front yard (the front wasn't bad though). As you can see, the transformation was a big job and took the best part of 8 hours to complete. We took out about 3 full loads of rubbish and green waste to the waste disposal site (the tip). On this episode you will see mowing, pruning, rubbish removal and hopefully satisfying hard work. This is part 1 of 2.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.
Sometimes there are circumstances in a persons life that are unforeseen and they need help. And thankfully there are angels, like you, who answer that call! 😊
The owner was not taking care of the property for whatever reason, but Mother Nature was hard at work reclaiming the lawn. She's still working but you got her slowed down a bit. Great job, you two.

Wow! This is the first time I've watched a yard clean up done where all the stuff was picked up off the ground, waste bins moved and all the debris cleaned up. Awesome job guys!!! What a difference all your hard work has made!!

I think trees and shrubs volunteer themselves in this climate, too. Thats how you get a tree right at a foundation or fence line. It looks harmless until suddenly….
I cringe every time he clears away the nasturtiums-they are one of my favorite plants-but I can see they literally grow like weeds there.

This was a totally jaw-dropping transformation. So neat and tidy now compared to what it was. Just an awesome job !!!
It’s nice to see the guys get in there and get the work done and get it right! I just had my roof replaced. A few days later the lawn care guys came as usual and they knew to look out for debris from the roof. I knew there could be debris after their clean up and for their safety warned them. After the 20th strip of nails was found, for their safety, I paid them for the day, rescheduled for another day to finish their job. I had the roofing company come back and go over the grounds again and gave them their box of nails.
Usually the roofing company should clean up nails with a magnetic bar dragged behind them.
@@marlenegold280 apparently after my call, the project manager for the roof work was demoted for letting his crew get away with the lousy clean up of my yard.

It is interesting to me to see hot water heaters outside the home. We of course here in the states [Michigan] must have them inside due to the weather changes.
It is different, Wisconsin is almost the same as your area of Michigan obviously.
I noticed watching a lot of US remodel & house flipping shows, you'll see that water heaters, HVAC, even washer & dryers get stuck in "odd" places too. Like the US South-Southeast, & Southwest. In attics, in 3-season porches, attached garages, closets...
The warmer weather, and construction styles, like OK & TX where the clay/caliche & rock means almost no one has a basement, and it's all on-slab construction. Or FL where the water table is 12" below the grass.
Winter up here can be harsh, but it kills all the creepy crawlies too, the ones with legs, and the vines. So I consider it an even-break. 😁
I'm from the North East (🇺🇸) and it does seems weird to see the plumbing pipes, and hot water heaters outside. Here we are built for the cold. But I've noticed in Florida on new builds HVAC units are put inside garages or utility rooms to keep them cooler and more energy efficient.
To me, as a European it's odd how in the US the electric panel is often outside. Here they're always indoors.
I tell you what, that Pope lawn mower is a tough machine, like the men using it! 👍🏾
