  • The Jakarta airport train (KAI Bandara in Bahasa Indonesia)!
This airport train is a new way (open since 2018) to travel between Soetta airport and the city of Jakarta. It stops at five train stations along the route.
It starts at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, with quick stops at Batu Ceper, Duri, and BNI City train stations before it ends at Manggarai train station. It takes only one hour from the airport to Manggarai. Plus, you may carry 20 kg luggage with a maximum size of 150x60cm.
I only had a small handbag so luggage wasn't an issue. That being said, there was a lot of open space on the train and plenty of room for bags.
The Jakarta airport train is scheduled to make twenty trips to each direction daily, and make short stops at three train stations (Batu Ceper, Duri, and BNI City stations). If you intend to catch a plane, make sure you choose the train that will arrive at the airport two hours before your plane departure. Murphy's law being what it is, I would recommend you to spend time wating before your flight at the airport versus waiting for a new flight because you missed the train and your flight! Because the train is usually faster than any taxi ride, you need to be sure to make it on time for your train trip to get to the airport in time for your planned flight. Missing the train here can't be fixed by throwing money at a taxi because they can't avoid either the traffic or the out of the way routes.
The airport train station is in a detached building, separated from the three terminals in Bandara Soetta. Ride a sky train (KA Layang in Bahasa Indonesia) to move between the airport train station and the three terminals. When you leave from the security of the terminal itself you will immediately be beset by taxi hawkers who try to sell you on this or that brand of taxi or ride into Jakarta. I do not recommend taking those! You will pay MORE even if you're lucky to not get scammed, and worse case, you get scammed by a shady taxi driver. Avoid the scams, the traffic and the hassles. Take the airport train just like I did.
    The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Commuter Line
    Indonesian: Commuter Line Bandara Soekarno-Hatta
is an airport rail link service in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia.
This airport rail link was built to cut travel time from the Jakarta city center to the airport, as roads connecting the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (SHIA) and Jakarta city center are frequently affected by traffic congestion. Massive traffic jams gridlock streets for hours each day. If you're in need of getting to/from Jakarta city center and the airport, take the train!
There were 24 kilometers (15 mi) of existing train line from Manggarai to Batu Ceper and 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) of new track were built from Batu Ceper to SHIA station.
At Duri, the trains reverse direction. If you have never been on-board, this can be some cause for alarm or concern. Relax. It's just a simple change of direction. Yes, the train will continue on to the next stations. But please pay attention to the outside signs on each station as the signboards inside of the airport trains seemed to be non-working.
The section between Manggarai and Duri are shared with Cikarang Loop Line commuter rail, but only stops at the two stations and BNI City. Similarly, the section from Duri to Batu Ceper is shared with Tangerang Line, but only stops at Batu Ceper.
At present passengers can board the train from Manggarai, BNI City, Duri, Batu Ceper and SHIA stations. Two new railway stations, SHIA and BNI City, were newly constructed, while others were renovated to serve airport passengers. BNI City also serves the Cikarang Loop Line of the commuter rail network for Jakarta.
