Can we stop using the term "jumpscare"?
Every fucking scare is a jumpscare.
There are no other types of scares, its like saying "the wet water"...is there any other type of water?
      Water implies wetness.

    • @shinbakihanma2749
      @shinbakihanma2749 Před 5 lety +8

@@joecool9739 There are indeed different types of scare tactics used in media. The term "jump scare" is used to describe a staged situation in any form of visual media, that may or may not actually be scary. It's pretty much a cheap (now overused and cliché), but sometimes effective way to throw the viewers off, and relax them while the genuine scare is strategically placed in an upcoming scene.

      There is no other type.

At on point EA was negotiating for a license, kind of a rumour so persistent and certain hints popped up, I believe it was a LinkenIn resume. Anyway, Visceral was tasked with making this game based on this IP and so they made a prototype. EA failed to secure the IP and so they had this rather good game from Visceral, so they just reworked it a bit. This IP was System Shock.
If EA had secured those rights, this would have been the new System Shock. No joke.

Dead Space 1 was a breath of fresh air for us gamers starved for survival-horror action.
Dead Space 2 made numerous improvements, but also had some regressions. My personal favorite of the series.
Dead Space 3 had some questionable design & content changes, most of which were forced by EA. The game starts off as an action-shooter, but once you get into space it will feel like Dead Space again, though towards the end it starts to falter again. Still a good game, but the weakest of the three.

The Developer (Visceral) already had plans for Dead Space 4, and they said that they were going to go for an open-world where the playable character had to search through space and investigate many derelict space-ships in order to scavenge for supplies & equipment. It sounded awesome. Unfortunately, EA cancelled its development and closed the Development studio down. R.I.P. Visceral. You (& Dead Space) will be sorely missed.

Playing for the first time on pc, while I can only go 30 FPS it looks so much smoother than the PS3 version. I can't see anything "dated" about the game. There's a lot of lighting and textures that have been done better in games but I think this game has an art style that works with the tech of the time, making a timeless game. Got it for 5$ on steam, basically an HD remaster for people who only played the console version

I love the dead space series to death, I was devastated when EA killed Visceral games, my only real complaint about the first game was the narrative was tedious at times, it was mostly just "Issac, go do this, Isaac go fix this thingy over there, Isaac go check out that scary noise." And I had completely forgoton Isaac even had a gf until the game reminds me, still though I give it the absolute highest 9/10👍
P.S- When is there gonna be a remaster/trilogy edition?

Dead Space was one of the first horror games I’ve played as a kid. I told myself if I played this I won’t be scared of any other game and it was true. P.T was the only game that had a solid chance at frightening me. Such a sad fate it got cancelled.
DS1 is the most disturbing and scariest Dead Space in the franchise sense you are more isolated in it and you encounter a threat you weren’t prepared to face. DS2 is amazing and fun, just not as horrifying as DS1. DS3 to me has a great story (I didn’t like the awakened DLC ending. I really want that to be non-cannon) it’s more of an action driven game than an actual horror game.
It’s actually understandable why the necromorphs aren’t that scary to fight as you proceed through the serious (like in DS3) because you get to understand them by the unfolding plot and you’ve been fighting them for so long. You begin to want to end the evil doings of the markers with high amounts of courage rather than cower in fear.
Even though I say this I still do get tensed up about DS1. I played that game so much that it oddly started to get scary all over again. Gave me nightmares, anxiety, and had to stop playing it even though I beat it over 30 times. (Didn’t have a life as a kid so that’s why I beat it so much)

Dead Space was one of my favorite games on 360. I always heard the sequel was great (and the needle QTE was gnarly), so I bought it on Steam a few months ago. It ran fine on my old system, but then I won a new PC in a giveaway from NZXT, and now it won't work. It crashes immediately after launch. I don't know if it's a problem with RTX, G-Sync, or my 18-core CPU. I've seen a few forums/articles about DS2 being incompatible with CPUs that have more than 4 cores. I've tried using a processor parking utility, to no avail.
Edit: I FINALLY GOT IT RUNNING! I just needed to limit my CPU to 10 processors using MSConfig. EA even confirmed the issue.

Would consider part 2 the favourite because of improved controls and presentation but the first one still nailed its atmosphere a bit better.
