      Me too, I just recently went and did what he said to do, I bought a lot of them and I realized recently with my book that there were so many. They were overlooked and cheap and still beautiful so I got them. Yeah, and I plan on doing that over and over again now with Morgan's and peaces as well just to get as many as possible!

    Basically, any Peace dollar rated at MS64 and above ( maybe at MS 62-63) is a very expensive set or selling them individually would reap you a handsome profit. When I started collecting coins I was drawn to the Peace dollars mainly because of their low prices and also because of the beauty of the coins. I always considered Peace dollars to just be a hidden, in plain sight, a great investment and I still do. When people start to collect Morgan dollars and find that there are quite a few that the price is unattainable , so then they start looking at Peace dollars and find that even the key dates are affordable. This is where any VF grade and up are going to go for some big money.

    Great video. My collecting focus is Peace Dollars. You have some good information regarding reading the books to learn about the different dates and how strike and surface quality varies from year and mint. Also I would suggest to anyone to be patient and picky when buying. Buy the coin and not the holder as all coins in the same grade are not created equal. I have coins in my set that I bought early in my journey that I really dont like at this point after learning.

There are allot of neat VAMS on Peace dollars. When I got back into collecting, I didnt track prices spent but soon after that I track every coin I buy or sell. It's a hobby so get what you want BUT be sure to do a little research before hand. Those books are GREAT.

    Always worth buying the good stuff. Best to buy them first, but hard to do sometimes as it is easier to fill the less expensive holes of course. The good keys are always in demand. Won a book on Morgans as a door prize at a coin show, a really neat book with lots of history. Peace Dollars never have had the popularity of Morgans, but I have a few and do like having the variety. I don't always look at every coin as an investment, but just collect them because I love collecting. Canadian coins aren't that popular, but we were pretty close to Canada so we collected. Found out later we had lots of Canadian relatives. People sometimes say, "what do you do with your coins, just take them out and look at them?" I say exactly. Sometimes I forget what I have so it's a surprise, like looking at something new.

    Wow, I wasn't ready for the sticker-shock regarding the VAM encyclopedia. I am assuming that it is out of print since 1998? And informally, Xerox updates by the dozens are now available, since new variations are found and confirmed. For hard-copy, new (1998), I found prices from $$low-100s up to $500 for a single book. Then, the supplements can be ordered, for Lord only knows how much for a complete set!

    As a little bit of a contrarian...I have always preferred the Peace over the Morgan dollar. Dont get me wrong - I think the Morgan is beautiful - but the Peace had such a short run and MUCH lower mintage it becomes more desirable to me.

    Great video on Peace Dollars. About 20 years ago I was really focus on these coins, looking back at what I paid for the 1921, 1934S both in high AU and a Slabbed MS63 1934D grades. Just missing the 1928. Really wish I was able to locate one that I liked and fit my budget at the time. I jumped back into Peace dollars last year big time, filled up several tubes with 1923 and 1924, still missing that 1928. Found one really nice coin but turned out it was cleaned and seller was not very receptive to hear that about the coin, walked away from the coin and the table at the coin show.

    • @TheWinstonDouble
      @TheWinstonDouble Před 5 měsíci

      @@Crypt0fin It would be the greatest fake ever if it was because it would have already fooled 3 dealers. I bought it at melt so they just threw it on the scale and charged me spot. That's how I found out it was heavy. I obviously weighed it again on two different scales just in case that shop had a bogus scam scale. But yeah other than the weight every detail was spot on, and I really looked it over comparing with images as it was the first peace dollar I've owned.

      @@TheWinstonDouble ok so this weights 27.73 grams instead of 26.63 grams in no holder with a zeroed digital scale? I would check for VAMS on PCGS's website

    • @TheWinstonDouble
      @TheWinstonDouble Před 5 měsíci

      @@Crypt0fin Yeah that's exactly right. 27.71 so like 0.98 gram technically. I checked all the VAMs I could really well with a loupe and couldn't match it to any known. I figured on a coin that big a 1 gram tolerance wasn't much because if you have a dime that weighs 2.58 instead of 2.5 it wouldn't be that significant, would it?. Idk, errors are not in my wheelhouse. I ended up getting 100 bucks in trade value for it but I'm wondering if I made a bad move. The guy I traded it to didn't know the value either so it was total nonsense pricing out of ignorance on both parts. Which isn't how I like to do sales as it usually ends in one side ripping off another accidentally but it was trade, not cash, and all the coins found homes they could be better appreciated in so I was happy with the result. Just wondering if it was worth getting certed for future reference. You learn the most in this hobby from mistakes and that's what makes this hobby challenging and nothing is fun if it isn't challenging!

    • @Crypt0fin
      @Crypt0fin Před 5 měsíci

      @@TheWinstonDouble if the coin had desirable surfaces I would have gotten it graded to get its full value but that too is a gamble. The reason I mention the surfaces is they did have lesser proof coins or differential finishes for the Peace dollar series. The different finish might have made the coin weigh more. Oh well if you profited good for you.

      Idk, they don't have the rim denticles or the nice sharp, seriffed letters like a morgan. Also they don't have flat fields so the lustre doesn't have that zippy/twitchy effect like morgans, and also they have that satin finish to them. They are an absolutely stunning design though. Definitely my favourite eagle and liberty. Morgan just designed too good of a coin and it overshadows the masterpiece that succeeded it. I mean the guy put "in God we trust" in gothic typeface.
