EA-18G Growler: You will be Confused and Blind
Vložit
- čas přidán 27. 02. 2022
- The EA-18G Growler is built around the successful and combat-proven F/A-18 series of aircraft, which have served as the U.S. Navy’s primary carrier-based multi-role fighters for many years. This makes the EA-18G Growler significantly faster and more maneuverable than previous electronic attack aircraft, which had been based more on transport aircraft designs.

When I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island and flying the EA-6B, the companies came and worked with reps from all the different squadrons to work ergonomics, capabilities, and set up of the upcoming system. Being a USAF EWO it was interesting being the VAQ-128 rep. I had experience in flying air to air in the F-4E, recon in the RF-4C, air to ground in the F-111F, and electronic warfare in the EF-111A and EA-6B. We worked all aspects of the upcoming system from Monday of how the cursors work to the system integration of its various systems. I heartened that the AF is finally working toward replacing the EF-111A after nearly 30 years.
googled your name and found your story...thank you for your service and admire your courage
Pretty cool I'm surprised they never sent you to NAS Pensacola that's where I flew f14s back in the late 80s
Never was on the play book. Pretty much an ops oriented career.
Thank You for your Service !!!
Thank you for your service 🙏 ❤️ 🇺🇲 while serving our Great Country. My nephew graduated from Pensacola Airbase and is going to be stationed at Whidbey Island and flying this exact attack aircraft; EA-18G. Prayers 🙏🙏 to our upcoming men & women that will serving the US! God bless you and thank you for the time you served 🙏
The selling of the EA-18G Growlers to Australia is a really big deal. The EA-6B Prowlers they replaced were a level of sophistication that we never wanted pointed back at us, so we never sold them to other countries. Since our weapons can last longer than our friendships, the level of faith in the relationship between the US and Australia has to be super solid. May it always remain so.
I've heard stories of the Australians using Flir pods and the Navy wanting to do that once they have approved it for safe for flight... In a way, they saved the Navy some money but also kinda screwed us as now the AV division has to deal with another complicated device in the near future.
Also, that the US is sharing nuclear submarine technology with them is huge. We've only done that with the UK.
Wild Weasel is so cool, read a lot of Vietnam stories about them. I wonder if they will have the same on the F35 one day.
"our weapons last longer than our friendships..." Ain't that the truth. Iran is still flying US aircraft lol
@@inCawHoots correct. The RAAF use the ATFLIR with the ‘G’ models in conjunction with their ‘F’ models. The Aussies are also assisting to develop the NGJ.
Can confirm we're using them successfully down here in Australia as part of our Emu Wars 2 and the various Kangaroo skirmishes across the land. These are the first aircraft to successfully confuse AND blind Koalas.
Idk much about Australia’s jets, do they really name the aircraft after animals?🤣

i can see f15ex being modified to fit this role for the airforce. 2 seat, it can carry all the equipment and its very fast.
No. The narrator mention that the Air Force will be getting the Growler as well to fill the gap in this capability.
@@estellemelodimitchell8259 7:33 he talks about outfitting existing airforce fighters, which would give them their own version of the growler. buying hornet would be a quicker way to acquire the capability but f15ex would be a better long term solution.
@@thejunkmanlives I'm with here, although i believe the af will get the growler and ecm jamming combability for the f-15E o EX

No, the F-16 is the better choice for this
Wish the video had some footage of my old squadron VAQ132. Cool video and good explanation of it's capabilities.
Whidbey island?
1:30 That livery is awesome =D
2:00 The EA-6B actually could "defend" itself as it carried (typically) a pair of HARM's. In Desert Storm Prowlers did fire 150+ HARMS in anger. There were no loses in 1,650 millions flown.
HARM is not Air to Air, so it is not self defense from a fighter standpoint. I’m not sure if they still have the gun or not.
Start practicing boys and girls.
And Shims, They/Them, so on...
They've got it perfected, they do it here at home daily and have for a long time.

Yeahh
Amazing video!!!

Outstanding documentary, to be honest the EA-6BProwler was a more sexier looking beast and I was sorry to see it go, but I am sure this new version will be more better-er. Thanks for sharing.
What a great pictures!
So to make the story short an F22 is trying to hide its butt from radar while this one is literally bringing the fight into the doorstep’s of the radar.
Bless you bro
What a amazing jet I like it
I had the privilege of serving as SQA Senior Engineer at GASD for the EA-6B for several years a while back. I left shortly after the HARM upgrade and the Avionics Improvement Program, around the same time that they were rolling out the D upgrade to the F-14.
The F-18 was a solid choice as the successor platform for the prowler.
Excellent
Growler vs S-400👀
Can't wait to see
Fully loaded Growler is such a chonker :D
The F-18 Growler is a great asset for the Navy and the Air Force need similar aircraft to assist the other aircraft doing the fighting.
The USAF operates these in the 390th fighter squadron since 2014. I was in the 390th for a couple years when I flew F-15Cs.
exactly ... i see a special ops squadron myself,, one of these plus a steatlh bomber and an a10 warthog .. now add a couple of f35s
@@BasedF-15Pilot False. The 390th doesn't operate any Growlers. They're an administrative liaison between the USAF and CVWP.

Of course the plane is cool, but what about that opening shot of this video. That was a cool perspective 😎
Great to see Montague’s name on the Growler. I remember Ensign Montague from our time flying Prowlers.
Sure, with all the other winged ensigns flying fleet aircraft. Nice try buddy.
@@caulfield4067 not that many in the EA community.
@@sharizabel2582 "Not that many" equals exactly zero.
@@caulfield4067 what is your problem? Do you think I didn’t fly? Are you just a troll?
@@sharizabel2582 You may have flown, but it certainly wasn't with any ensigns in Prowler, or any other TACAIR platform. That scenario just does not exist, unless it was some stash from the wing who got a "good deal" ride. But to agree their are winged ensign pilots in the EA community is just false.
Currently working with that bulk of metal and have been building a wide set of flavors of the Q-99 system... hard but good work. I even worked with FRC on how they fix them... Tech is really old and will continue to be used by the Navy even when the new NGJs come out.
Also, AF wanting Growlers? What do they do anyways? Last I dealt with them on their turf, they really didn't do anything but just fly sorties, meanwhile you got all the deployable squadrons doing actual missions like OIR and OEF... My squadron got commended by doing a SEAD mission not too long ago by a Admiral and the VP. That was cool (even tho the VP's call was spotty but we heard him say our squadron)...
Fly on, Growlers.

I saw these in Bagram Airfield and would love when they would break over the runway practicing their navy aircraft carrier landings.
Only 162 Growlers have been made not the 1000 he said at the 3:50 mark otherwise they would have more growlers then FA/18 and F35 combined, awesome aircraft anyways.
That “elevator” raising the aircrew up into the cockpit has got to be from a video game
Just a civilian here. Nice video.

Not a real good pilot are you.
9:11 Ouch!
The Growler is obviously a cherished aircraft. The USAF wants their own version of a Growler. What's wrong with the USAF adopting the EA-18G for their own purposes? Both services would then have a common aircraft that they both cherish and it would cut down on defense spending. It makes no sense for both the USN and the USAF to have two different aircraft to be used for the very same mission.
The growler was based off of the super hornet to keep maintenance consistent. The air force doesn't use the same aircraft, which were designed for carrier use. If the air force were to take on growlers, they would need to establish a new supply chain and retrain the maintainers. Better to modify something they already use...

How much difference is F-35 vs EA-18G Growler in Electronic Warfare? I have heard that F-35 is also very strong in this part.
The F-35 Does Not have the Countermeasures that the EA-18g does.
The F35 is a Pile of Overrated Junk.
When I was in the Navy, my digital watch got scrambled working on the flight deck.
Growlers don't radiate on deck.
we have 12 EA-18G Growlers, and 24 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, the government was going to sell them but have decided to keep them as they can work along side the 72 F-35 Lightning IIs which has given our airforce 108 fighter jets and with our NUKE subs and the new ships gives use means to defend ourselves and work along with our ally's Canada, New Zealand, UK, and the USA and our friends in the area
Thats just a Wednesday for me brother this thing is going to have to do better.
I hope a few of these are operating in Ukraine now! That would be a sound way of active true testing.

I was lucky enough as a new Ham radio operator to catch a EA/ 18 pilot who also had just got his Ham license on 2 meter VHF simplex! Not everyday a civilian gets to talk to a Naval Jet on the radio. He was using the Harris radio the EA/18 is equipped with. If you want to hear my contact I actually have the video on my channel. Check it out. N7ORG
I really want to see USN aircraft get it on with some Chinese. I have the feeling that the Chinese are paying someone to tell them that they don't want to do that.
