10 HOURS OF WALKING IN CHINA AS A BLACK MAN, HOW CHINESE REACT TO BLACK PEOPLE? (BLACK IN CHINA)
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 13. 11. 2022
- This is what it's like as a Black man walking 10 hours in China.
Living outside your home country isn't quite easy, but living in China is a little different. And especially that my skin color is different, I get a lot of reaction from Chinese on a daily basis.
This is Day 5 of my 10 hours of walking in China challenge.

Hi, as a small creator, Iâm grateful for yâall watching, liking & subscribingâ€ïžâđœ. My name is Felthom & Iâm currently documenting my experiences as person of color here in China.
Nice đȘđż
Chinese are "person of color" too. If a Chinese man walks on African streets, I wonder how the locals would react?đ
U are the best bro
U are genius
Never heard of people using urine to boil eggs in China. đ€Ł
Iâve lived and visited there for a few years as well. To my knowledge, unless you bump into someone / some place quite strange or messed up (really outside of the norm) no one does that. 99.99% of the places and people Iâve met in China would think that, thatâs disgusting as well.
Water isnât scarce in China, so if thereâs any truth in that statement (which I donât think is true at all), then itâs very few and very far in between that youâd find something like that. Maybe in a rare remote village in one region where they still think it serves some medicinal purpose. But I highly doubt it.
Salted eggs, tea eggs, duck eggs, and quail eggs are quite common tho. If you eat anything that has a sour, ammonia or sulfur taste, itâs probably just a bad / rotten egg.
Good one brother, but, u are no "person of colour" POC, u are African. POC is a collective term used to include Chinese also. Would imply that u blend with them, u don't, most of the script is being acted out after your passage: the curious stare, expressions, curiosity but pretending not to.
Your camera angles are good, the way u penetrated due to overcoming language barriers, reminds me of the early days of Wode Maya's early days. Curiosity is markedly pronounced from elder Chinese, the young cares less.
Clearly there is an imbalance in both our populations living in each other's countries. They have penetrated ours and become a fixture; we, still a curiosity in their mostly homogenous country.
Looking forward to more of your encounters
I like the fact that ppl respect him and treat him fairly.
Thats how chinese people traditionally really are
Because in china you have no racism they donât know about bigotry.
I am from Brazil and spent a few years in Beijing in the 90's, still love everything about China, the people, culture, language...
Free the Muslims being oppressed in china
I'm impressed with this guy. This is not an easy language to learn and speak in 5 years. Bravo my brother!
see how just learning another language can bring people to gather just for a conversation. not once did they question him about why he was there or gave him negative energy they were more intrigued by the fact that he actually took the time and learned the language.
I think 5years is enough to master any language lmao
â@@Luv-dq5th not chinese ... U may be able to read and write, but to make chinese understand ur speaking is another matter.
â@@Luv-dq5th not Chinese
@@kshenriques i think you and abu are severely underestimating how long 5 years are. Maybe if you were self taught sitting at home doing an hour or so a day then yes. But when you're immersed in the language every second of every day by simply living there, if you CANT speak the language semi-fluently then you might have an issue with how your brain works
That grandmother coming back and clapping was the best â€đ
I'm actually accepting the fact that they're happy to actually have a black person visiting their country. They're allowing they're kids to kindly say hello and in fact impressed with the fact that you can speak fluently with them. Great video!
yeah, thats a pretty normal day here in China... Chinese peoples confused face (happens when your carrying a camera around) usually looks grumpy but that quickly turns into a smile when you say hi, especially in Chinese. Thanks for the video.. I really liked to relate my experience to it.
Youâre very welcome. Glad you can relate to it
â@@FelThommy good
I am a white Irishman, and spent a month in china. I felt sort of paranoid the whole time. Don't think colour is an issue, they find seeing a westerner walking their streets fascinating!!!
At least i had a better time in china than i did in japan!!!!
Next episode: a chinese man walking in Lagos and speaking Yoruba...
I donât think itâs safe to walk the streets of Lagos as an Asian man
@@romanzmlv1458 the Chinese infested africa bro what u mean
@@Kyle906-Q8 well they are everywhere but at least theyâre bringing investments. But again as a non black person I would be scared to walk alone in Africa, in Asia itâs fine
I wish I could speak Yoruba fluently vc of my religion đ€§ (Brazilian here, we have many African Brazilian religions and mo's of black ppl here are Yoruba ethnic descendants from the slavery time)
â@A B Speaking the local language?
Good job Fel! You just proved "nobody would respect you just because of your skin color, but people would respect your skin color because of what you've done"

Having been to 4 cities in China i know that they're very happy to meet non Chinese which is very rare and a proud moment for them
I love this. I am Nigerian Irish and it kinda reminds me of life in Northern Ireland in the 80s when I was growing up, except the people werenât very friendly. Itâs changed there now, much more chill. So interesting to see real Chinese street scenes. I wish you well bro đ«¶đœ
As me grandad would say .. âgood man yaselfâ âïžâ€ïž
Hey, bro. I'm Northern Irish. Sorry to hear about your bad experiences here. I think that a lot of people are quite backwards here, but things have been steadily changing since I was born in 88, which is of course a great thing.
@@OuroborosWorm hey bro, Iâm talking about my experiences back in the 70s and 80s really. Things have changed so much at home that it is barely recognisable to me now. It was very different back then though, trust meâŠ
On my mother's side they are Irish/British/Choctaw and cherokee. I was shocked to know I'm only half American lol. Even had the urge to visit Ireland for some reason back in 2020. Salute to ya!

Interesting to see. I would've felt weirded out from everyone looking and staring. Great job and that fact that you speak their language, its very helpful.
I like how the Chinese ask direct questions.
Thatâs how it is heređ
Keep doing your thing. Donât know you but felt pride when I saw you interacting with the people and just being brave to leave your comfort zone to something so different. My anxiety would get the best of me Respect

This man was intriguing/ interesting to the local people.
I only saw respect.
Truly fascinating
Love you man, your content is god tier, people who puts dislikes are cringe
You are one in a million. ( Okay I'll admit I nearly died of laughter when you wrote wait those people weren't together)đ
there is no stigma to staring over there. i got stared at constantly over there. was uncomfortable at first, but i learned to turn it into a swagger.
Another thing Chinese are also mostly extroverted, they like to talk to people
@@haruyanto8085 i think many i met did not know how to approach me. i was in an area that was relatively rural, with very little exposure to outsiders.

Nice video!!! How would you describe the difference (if any,) in interacting with older folks (65-older) and younger folks (50s-teens)? I wonder how much of a role the societal changes in the last 60+ years have played in the general view of foreigners in China.
Good luck

Never say never
They are just curious. You can't see different race in China every day except in some major cities. For those elders, it might be their first time during whole life. It's a country just starts to open 30 years ago, and China is huge. It's a situation that you're more like a celebrity rather than those Asians are stared, beaten and shot at in the U.S. and UK.
Very humble people
That is so fucking cool I oo see a black man in China. And he knows the language too. Very cool
Thank you
Wow old people there are quite healthy and independent. I wished my grandparents too could have lived longer. đ„Č
The best way is to talk to people on the street, try to find some thing interesting to talk to them or just ask for direction , they will be very welcome and friendly once you talk to them in Chinese. I can assured you.
Congratz bro i think sĂł Hard chinese leanguage!
The way those strangers gathered in the beginning then separated at the end is powerful. We're all connected âš
They were all saying "I didn't know men could be so handsome"
Have to give it to him for the courage to walk among dem and do his thing , in this video though they showed him respect , good
Good my. Brother
Did anyone notice the flower shop owner teleport to the chair outside?
He is our lord and savior, just like the fictitious christ
He was itching to sit back in that chair đ
Your a amazing human being
Thank you very much
The book the Travels of the Black Raven talks about this a lot.
I went to watch some football matches in China with friends. One of my pals is Black and has dreadlocks, and attracted a lot of attention. However, not half as a much as the young white lad with us, who had ginger hair... the locals seemed mesmerised by him đ
Your Chinese is very good!
Even as a white man living in China for a couple of years (not in major location where there are more foreigners) I got constant attention, none of which I found bad, if you think someone looking at you (especially older people) strangely is bad there someone wrong with the person walking. China had been a very Chinese place and I hope it retains this for another 100 years đ
Impressive.. you managed to walk around recording for 20 minutes without a mask and not be arrested or approached by any authority. Wow. Maybe being black in China comes with certain privileges
Hopefully it becomes a more free nation in the next 100 years

This is great. Knowing the long history of China and the migration of Africans this is deeply special.
Your title should mention the city you are in; different cities in China people react differently to foreigners.
We chinese people do not judge book by cover and also do not judge people by colour
about the egg, I need to clarify that as an Chinese I can tell you non of the eatable egg is make of urine. It might heard people use horse urine to add on the grass ashes to make the Thousand-year-egg that was a mistake information. The thousand-year-egg is make of ash mix soda and red mud to keep the egg cell dry.
