Beamish 2024 | The living museum of the North

- Beamish Museum is an open-air museum located at Beamish, near Stanley, in Durham. The museum's guiding principle is to preserve an example of everyday life in urban and rural North East England at the climax of industrialisation in the early 20th century.
Much of the restoration and interpretation is specific to the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, together with portions of countryside under the influence of industrial revolution from 1825. On its 350 acres estate it uses a mixture of translocated, original and replica buildings, a large collection of artefacts, working vehicles and equipment, as well as livestock and costumed interpreters.
The museum has received a number of awards since it opened to visitors in 1972 and has been influential on other living museums. It is an educational resource, and also helps to preserve some traditional north-country and rare livestock breeds.

The good lady & called in for one day while traveling down south from Scotland. We booked two nights in a hotel so we could spend a day there. That was a mistake. We should have booked more nights so we could have spent two or three days.
Myself and my then partner spent a day at Beamish in 2006 and truth be told you'd really need around 3 days and the only thing that annoyed me wasn't anything about Beamish but rather rude customers in the restaurant. The place as I found out is packed from when the place opens until it closes so understandingly your food does take a while to arrive and I tried to say that to the customer but the fat old sow of a woman told me to shut up then I answered by stating she already proved one thing to all at the restaurant and when shamu asked what it was I told her that even the slightest movement causes fat people to sweat profusely. I asked one of the guides if I could buy the vintage royal marine recruitment metal poster but alas no, but I kid you not, if you ever want to have a truly fantastic time that even kids will enjoyed then Beamish is the place to visit. Thank you to the creators of Beamish.👍👍👍👍👍
