Good job...I just got a scooter to help me get around and I need a little ramp to be able to get into the house. Thanks for the ideas...BE SAFE, GOD BLESS!!!
When screwing decking to joists/stringers, I start at one end and then move to the adjacent joist in order; this works out any possible bows in the deck boards. When you screw both ends first, the outside screws on both ends will not allow the bow (if there is one) to be eliminated.
Very good and brief video! Im going to attempt this today to replace two rotting ramps on a walkway bridge I made over our stream so our lawn tractor can cross over
Good call on the gap, I basically did that for traction for my little lawn mower etc, its not a ramp that many people will walk on (actually I am the only one to ever use it).
those metal floor joists of the shed look to be the same as mine, and they're pretty thin gauge, which gives me the impression you're using lag bolts as sheet metal screws, albeit very large diameter ones. Point being is lag bolts are meant to go into solid material, so I wonder how long before yours start backing out or pull themselves out from the shed from all the flexing of the ramp?
You make a good point, the steel in the rim joist is about 1/8th inch, and I wondered about the lags too... but I am happy to say they have pretty much held up after 2-3 years (not sure how long ago I built this ramp) It is a little loose i.e. you can see some flex when I drive in, but its never pulled away, I can't remember if i show this in the video but I supported the high end (next to the shed) of the ramp with some bricks so the weight load was supported the lags are basically keeping the ramp to shed connection.
Really appreciated this nice simple build & loved the design. I'm begging you to leave music out of your videos... I have no choice but to listen b/c I want to hear what you are saying, but I find the music incredibly distracting & frustrating while I try to attend to the video details; it just isn't needed. :) Thanks so much!
Sorry about that... I was still learning the idea of content creation and I guess many things that came naturally to me don't always occur to others, hope you were able to complete your project.
I don't remember right off the top of my head I just used a long board to get the angle right so that the mower would not "High Center" when loading it in to the shed. I think it was approx 4 feet, but that would vary based on how high the shed floor is from the grade.
giving a little space provides a little extra traction for the tires to grip when its wet, but honestly you could push them tight together with like 1/8th inch spacing and it would be fine. I also spray some weed killer in the cracks every spring to keep the grass from and weeds down.
Basically use a string to determine the length based on the height of the building to the distance back from the building you want the ramp to land so that your tractor does not high Center. you want a shallow enough slope that your tractor can climb in easily and not high Center the deck is the front wheels break over into the building.
I think its a little over 6 feet by about 9 feet deep or something like that, it was on the property when I purchased the place and I have never measured it. Thanks so much for watching!
I guess I could have showed that part, but I basically took a string put a brick on it to hold it at floor level, then pulled it back far enough that I thought my tractor would not "High Center" it was not a very "scientific" method but it basically worked. I think rule of thumb is that the length of the joist should be 1/3rd longer than the wheel base of the mower or what ever you are driving in. But don't quote me on that because the ground clearance of various tings (mower vs 4 wheeler) would have a huge affect.
LOL.. Hopefully you are joking... but I just used an editing technique to speed the footage to 2x or 3x normal speed to condense the time frame... for boring or repetitive things it just makes the time go fast.
I actually considered a different method of joining the ramp to the shed, eventually I put some concrete cap blocks under the ramp to give it a little better support, all in all after all this time it still works fine, and supports the lawn mower to get in and out of the building just fine so it's doing what it is designed to do. Thanks for watching!
At the time of that video we tried to fit all the videos into a specific time frame ... So we all used 2* or 3* speed to fit a time box... Use the pause feature on CZcams if you need to stop for a moment .. thanks for watching ! Maybe someday I'll have time to get back to content
God, awful music! Why is it so loud??? I want to hear what you're saying, not a mariachi band. Thank you for taking the time, its a helpful video but......
Thanks for watching... hard to please everyone... some people like the music some down... some what no music some what less talking hard to please everyone...
Sorry for the late reply, I am not that active on my channel anymore, but it's been several years since I made this project I don't think i spent any more than $100 dollars on this at the time, not sure in 2022 prices might be higher.
Outdoor project are where I am headed myself , new top on my back deck, than paint the front the porch.FUN !!! Nice job on the Ramp !!!👍👍👍👍
Good build, quick and easy and does the job just like you needed it to.
Jerry's This and That Thanks !
Nice work, Billy!
Doing an Eagle scout project and this vid was very helpful. Nice work.
Glad you were able to use it ! stick around I will have some new video content out soon !
Good job...I just got a scooter to help me get around and I need a little ramp to be able to get into the house. Thanks for the ideas...BE SAFE, GOD BLESS!!!
Hope it works out !
Very informative. Thank you.

Great Tip!
I got to do this this summer as well
Any color, as long as it's black! I love that old joke! Nice job!
that came out nice!
Very good and brief video! Im going to attempt this today to replace two rotting ramps on a walkway bridge I made over our stream so our lawn tractor can cross over
Good luck!
Done nicely
What should I expect in terms of cost of materials for something like this?
Great job... but I like a smaller gap for the deck boards.
Good call on the gap, I basically did that for traction for my little lawn mower etc, its not a ramp that many people will walk on (actually I am the only one to ever use it).
Very nice work. What are the three musics playing in this video please ?
Thanks for watching ... Sorry I don't remember what I used in this video... I usually use music right out of the CZcams music library.

Nice video! Just a suggestion...when you sprayed the hinge why not spray it’s bolts too?
They are galvanized
What is the name of the saw that you used to cut the dowels in the beginning of your video ?
In the little bumper video ? It was likely just a little harbor freight pull flush cut saw

I'll consider that
Gosh!! Yes!!!! Please kill the music.
Yes, please! The music is louder than your voice.
Nice ramp Billy but why did you leave so much space between the planks? 1/8 of an inch is sufficient.
No particular reason... Just what I chose to do
Thanks good experience
Thank you too
This only works if your grade is level. My shed is along a slope so the joists will be different as the grade changes.
You cut between the two saw horses 😂
A list of supplies would have been nice! I had to play it like 5 times to make sure I didn't miss anything LOL
Sorry about that... I was still learning the idea of content creation and I guess many things that came naturally to me don't always occur to others, hope you were able to complete your project.
To what length did you cut your 2x6 joist?
I don't remember right off the top of my head I just used a long board to get the angle right so that the mower would not "High Center" when loading it in to the shed. I think it was approx 4 feet, but that would vary based on how high the shed floor is from the grade.
Any color you want as long as it’s black 😂
Why so much space between the boards?
giving a little space provides a little extra traction for the tires to grip when its wet, but honestly you could push them tight together with like 1/8th inch spacing and it would be fine. I also spray some weed killer in the cracks every spring to keep the grass from and weeds down.
So how long did you cut the 2×6?

What size garden shed is that?
I think its a little over 6 feet by about 9 feet deep or something like that, it was on the property when I purchased the place and I have never measured it. Thanks so much for watching!
Funny I was going to ask why such a small shed then I read through the post and saw it was already there not one you purchased.
How much did you have in material??
About 30 bucks plus or minus thankd for watching .
Some of the questions in these comments are mind blowing, i question how people survive on a daily basis
Don't you wish you could really work that fast?!
Timothy Smith cardio workout!
Nobody will ever reveal how they decide on the measurement used to make the cuts needed for slope. Why did you pull 2" down
I guess I could have showed that part, but I basically took a string put a brick on it to hold it at floor level, then pulled it back far enough that I thought my tractor would not "High Center" it was not a very "scientific" method but it basically worked. get it in any color you want as long as its black!!! Still laughing!!!!!
Jerry's Machines borrowed from Henry Ford
You move so fast, are you bionic? lol
LOL.. Hopefully you are joking... but I just used an editing technique to speed the footage to 2x or 3x normal speed to condense the time frame... for boring or repetitive things it just makes the time go fast.
Any color you want as long as it's black!!.........hahahaha ....that's funny
No angle cuts at the top end of the joists is causing the ramp to move up and down as it's used. Other than that, nice little ramp.
I love you.
That’s a tiny shed.
Yes it is... It was on the property when I purchased the home
Way too fast slow down.
At the time of that video we tried to fit all the videos into a specific time frame ... So we all used 2* or 3* speed to fit a time box... Use the pause feature on CZcams if you need to stop for a moment .. thanks for watching ! Maybe someday I'll have time to get back to content
