    He didn't mention the name of the high permeability commercial product at the end, but if you look closely, it appears to say MU (metal). This makes sense to me.

    Thank you, very insightful and helpful. I"m building a guitar tube amp from a donor cabinet where the 2 power tubes are forced to be close to the speaker magnet. Its been shown that depending on the situation, the proximity can deflect the electrons in the tube causing distortion in the signal and effect the output as well. Should this end up being an issue, I was on the hunt for a solution to keep the magnetic profile of the speaker from effecting the performance of the 2 power tubes. I would expect this frequency of the speaker magnet to anywhere from the steady magnet field throughout the audio frequency range. Its hard to tell right now but, it might be wise to at least anticipate a potential issue with this and have some approaches to experiment with. Thank you! Great video.

    Would it be any difference if the shielding was a) built as a box/cage around the coil and/or b) if the shield itself was grounded?

      The magnetic materials would work better around the whole coil, the non-magnetic materials still wouldn't work. Grounding makes no difference.

    Hi! Thanks for the video, I’ve been curious about shielding from EMP bursts, such as a solar flare or nuclear weapon.
    Most vehicles are made from a light stainless steel and and I find little data as to whether a vehicle would stand up to an EMP if we had a “Carrington Event”.

      Solar flares and the E3 component of nuclear EMP are very low-frequency events that are unlikely to affect vehicles. These are more of a threat to power and communication grids with very long wires. The E1 and E2 components of a nuclear EMP event could affect or disable vehicles, but at these frequencies, any shielding provided by the vehicle body would be more related to the conductivity rather than the magnetic properties.

    Thankyou, just what I needed to see. I'm currently trying to stop stray flux from my amplifier transformer interacting with the Tape head of my cassette deck which sits below it. Does the thickness of the mu metal have a bearing on its effectiveness? From what I've read on ebay they say not....but I would prefer your opinion!

      The thickness affects both the reluctance and the saturation flux. Nevertheless, your application probably doesn't require a very thick sheet.

      Thanks. I just checked the Mu Shield company's Facebook page and their last post was about a turntable similar issue finally enough. Watching that half success makes me wonder if I need something pretty thick. The flux field from my amp seems quite large - I have to lift it above my deck by about 15" to eliminate mutual induction. In your video, if the sheet had extended well beyond the diameter of the coils would the attenuation have been greater?

      @@hemiolabooks450 Extending the shield material farther out from the loop boundary would have provided some improvement. The lower the reluctance of the shield path relative to the air path, the better it works. I can't comment on your amplifier interference problem, I don't have enough information. Nevertheless, you can experiment until you find something that works.

    I heard the usage of " shunting " a lot . But I was expecting the shield would be producing " Eddy currents" that try to cancel or attenuate the flux being produced by pri coil

      That happens at higher frequencies (kHz and higher). See the video "High-Frequency Magnetic Field Shielding Demonstration." At very low frequencies, the conductive loss in the material prevents the eddy currents from being strong enough to significantly attenuate the magnetic field.

    Where are you getting these thicknesses from? There’s about 25 mm in one inch. Those sheets of copper are like 2.1mm and 5mm..

    There was a huge change in the copper... look at the screen on the gauge thing you have . It dimmed the light on the instrument screen

      That was an artifact from the camera's auto focus. The actual amplitude as measured by the oscilloscope is not affected. The illumination of the screen wouldn't be affected either way as you could see with the shielding steel.

      This material was called Mu-Shield(TM). It's one of many brands of mu-metal on the market.

    He never gave us the product name or where to buy the last material he used. Tim Rifat used one inch thick steel for his protection cage. Mine wasn't nearly that thick so I guess that is probably why it didn't work. Can you explain to me what a chaotic magnetic field is and how to create one?

      The last material was a sample of a mumetal marketed and sold by MuShield . Mumetals have very high relative permeabilities at low frequencies.

      @@LearnEMC Hi. Does this test show that steel can somewhat protect the body from electric fields that is measured in V/m? Someone measured my computer with mouse and keyboard to be 50 V/m. He then said if I grounded the electricity in the house it would help lower that. Do you know how much one can expect it to lower with ground?

      One example is tensor technology's, or mobius coil toroid generators, ..mostly primitive science, but I've tried a few versions and they can be verified as effective, using an equally primitive trifield meter.

      there are ferritic (magetic) and non-ferritic stainless steels. The last one don't work as magnetic shield. The 400 series are ferritic/magnetic; the typical 300 series (most kitchen/home uses) aren´t

    could you show how neg charged magnets affect magnetic fields. I heard of products people who are targeted by scalar harmonics will use EMF harmonizers, Quwave Defender, Rezotone 5G shield, Aulterra 5G shield, 5G bioshield, taking Zeolite which has neg ions, Neg Ion Generators, drinking ionized water...any of these things work? Some will paint their home with RF Shielding Paint (charcoal and graphite) or go with Iron Ball Paint to get away from EMF/RF/ELF. I think Smart meter puts milliwave and scalar tech throughout the home which communicates with smart appliances, computers, wifi routers. how can someone have a zero faraday home shielded from ELF/Scalar/Harmonics/RF/EMF? I was thinking one can also run EMT/Flex electrical wiring and pull wires out of a room or two until you sell. Now, even water meters have Smart Meters which pulse RF/EMF throughout your plumbing system. So you have plumbing and electrical being used to radiate RF waves. Why? thanks for the video.

    Is there a way to utilize magnetic shielding the same way a singer matches the frequency of a glass to shatter it?, to effectively stop an impact force such as a projectile (ie explosive) when magnetic shielding is combined with solid materials such as steel or even granite?
    In practical terms, could one build buildings that could withstand attacks from high velocity projectiles utilizing magnetic shielding? Assume the walls would have the magnetic shield built in to them, the assumption being that the frequency of the shielding would match that of the impact object

      There are no eddy currents at 0 Hz. And at frequencies on the order of 100 Hz and lower, they are attenuated by the resistance of the metal, so they don't provide enough magnetic flux to oppose the incident flux.

      Silver is another non-magnetic material and would not be effective for shielding low-frequency magnetic fields.

      Assuming you are talking about directed energy weapons employing microwaves, they are blocked by good conductors including most metals. They are not low-frequency like the fields in this video.

    your coil stan is blocking the ability of any shielding from being able to completely cover the part where your wood stand is. the wood is covering the bottom portion of the coils.and your plates are not big enough to cover the outside edges of your coil.

      Bismuth is essentially non-magnetic (like copper) and would not provide effective magnetic-field shielding at low frequencies.

      @@LearnEMC also you can imprint a structure into bismuth while it’s cooling using a electromagnet or neodymium magnet. Could maybe cool a sheet of bismuth with a sheet say 100x100 little neodymium magnet all held together with a 3-d print to so all of them can be facing the same direction. 🤷‍♂️

      10 mils is approximately one-quarter millimeter. The unit conversions in the video are correct. If you believe there is an error, please specify the time at which the error occurs.

    If you are talking in millimetres in regards to the thickness of those plates then you your calculations are incorrect. Seems like you have added a zero to each one... Eg: when you said 60mm when it was more like 6mm and the last plate shown was more likely .6mm not 6mm

    Now try some pieces of activated carbon paper say 10-50 mil and watch what happens.

    Uncle... This is really a good, but bad demonstration. I am especially here for 08:08 and you can't even tell us what type of grade steel that is and how in the hell can you say that thin piece of metal sheet is 6mm? Do you know how thick 6mm is?

      The video does not say the material is 6 mm thick. It says the material is 6 mils thick. As the label indicates, it is MU-SHIELD (TM).

    This is what scares me a little bit what if the Russians have gotten hold of this technology and perfected it somehow and now they're using against us tornadoes hurricanes etc. We did make it rain in Vietnam for a long time!!

    certainly you are imprecise if you indeed mean a length measurement of thickness in millimeters.
    Sorry but simple units stumble make ur otherwise excellent video essentially unwatchable… 125 “mls” is 5 inches …
    We never use “mls” anyway as it is a unit of volume and fundamentally wrong , bastardized slang for length in millimeters… you have an error …. ““60ml” thick” does not look 6 cm…ie >2 inches thick …bro

      Well.... you are entirely in the wrong.
      A mil is one thousandth of an inch.
      Does that copper look like it's 25 mm thick?!?
      You're watching a video by a North American, and as it happens many datasheets in Europe express thicknesses in both mils and microns.
      That information was one Google search away.

    Instead of different sheet materials try mesh materials instead. Try mesh with different size holes. Faraday test?
