true. now it does rely on the individual animal. a dog that is generally a scaredy cat might be scared of everyone they do not know.. however like with my aunts dog. the pupper doesn't want anything to do with most humans except her owners, however when i visited (i was going to spend the night there aswell) on the same day despite the dog normally not liking people she wanted to cuddle with me and was jumping up at me for me to pick her up so she could get on my lap. and my aunt was absolutely gobsmacked that out of all people it would be me she would like. (though i do know dogs tend to adore me my mothers aunt also has a dog however this one isn't as shy towards people however he does have a certain way he acts around most people wich is greet them then move on.. in my case however he greets me then as soon as i sit down he decides he want's to be a lap dog and just plops down on my lap XD it's adorable and i love it)

Living in İstanbul is a true blessing. When a woman walks alone at night there is always a big dog escorting the woman and making sure she is safe, if not it would protect her. This happened to me so many times. One day I was leaving a club and I noticed a man is following me and I saw a dog and walk towards her. She immediately knew something was wrong and barked at the man. Then she walked with me all the to subway. Another time I was crying my heart out on a bench and a cat jumped on my lap and started licking and comforting me. It was so wholesome. Every person should experience that feeling.

Also, I petted all the cats and dogs I saw on the streets. So a considerable amount of my vacation was dedicated to petting animals) It is trully heartwarming how people treat animals there. I think it's a good sign when there is not one street I saw without an animal and several bowls of food and water. It tells a lot about the people that live on the street. I hope to come back to Istanbul in the future. ❤

@@supremetrashcan hello I'm pakistani too, I love animals and I always believe in caring and taking in strays or shelter animals rather than buying a pet. Unfortunately we can't say that for all of our country animal cruelty is pretty common here, the kids on the street thinking throwing rocks or tying up animals would be fun, frustrated or drunk men taking their anger out on them. It's become so common to see so many poor animals being abused by these type of people here. I really believe we need awareness for this issue because it's very prevalent.

It's considered "interesting" because so many countries have pretty shameful records when it comes to treatment of animals. The way we treat our animals is just not the norm in all countries. It can't really be pinned down why some are good and some are bad, Turkey is good, some of its neighbours are terrible. The UK is good, Germany too, but Spain is pretty awful and Greece isn't great either. So yeah, it is interesting to see and more so to know where that love of animals comes from.

Just returned from Istanbul and it’s true how much love and care is given to animals. Cats just stroll into any establishment almost knowing that they are welcome. Sitting on chairs in restaurants, strolling into the hotel, sleeping on the sidewalk, moving freely amongst people without fear and all appear well fed. God bless the Turkish people

I brought our culture all the way to Indiana, where has harsh winters. I buy bread from the grocery stores to feed the animals when the ground is covered with snow for the last six years since I saw a bird trying to dig snow to find food. That is we all should do. However, there is something happened last winter that I am proud of: my 4yo daughter reminded me to go and buy bread for the animals.

The problem isn't the loving cat part, it's the locals not believing in neutering part. They let the cats multiply which leads to this uncontrollable cat overpopulation. No matter how well the locals take care of them, there's a lot of starvation, illnesses, injuries, abuse, and freezing in winter. The Turkish people need to neuter the cats if they value them. Videos like this paint a rosy picture and is one-sided. Sorry, I’m not replying to your comment per se. It’s a comment on these vides of Turkish cats in general

Gideons Word so this means Spanish are killers because of depopulation of Americas or all Germans are nazis or Japanese are the worst for their history with Korea? And English, French etc are plain tyrants for trying to colonize Turkey during the world war I, of course this is by your book...Please just grow up, we are living in 21st century. Even your grandparents do not remember those times, maybe even they were not born yet. Try to keep up with todays world, you are never gonna get anywhere with hating people because of their race and political history. Often times the actions of a government depends on a bunch of high profile leaders. It would be foolish to assume that millions of people think the same (or even has a say in government matters, especially during war). I hope you grow up from your racist point of view and become a citizen of the world we live in today!

Turkey is not only the country that spends the most money on aiding animals but also, within its budget, it has been the top country in terms of percentage spent on aiding the poor in Africa for the past 15 years. It also ranks first in sending aid to the most water-scarce regions in Africa by opening wells.
