Hi everyone, thanks for watching! This was my most complicated and involved video that I've ever created for this channel. I estimated that I had about an hour of footage for this build, so figuring out what to keep and what to cut was very difficult, as I really wanted to keep it all in! I'm still getting the hang of using my new microphone and creating a proper balance of the audio. I'm getting better about it, but I still have a lot to learn. This is really my first big video where I'm back to narrating, and I hope that I'm getting better.
I hope that you all enjoy this build. I still have to edit and upload my Tamiya 1:48 F-14A model, which I think I'll be doing later in the summer. This is a seriously involved model kit, and all I can say now that I've built 2 of them is that I'd like to build 2 more!
Great build and perfect timing. Life kind of stole my hobby time back in the nineties. I kept a lot of kits but had not built them. Now retired I wanted to re-enter the game. I have been overwhelmed by the evolution of the hobby, especially paints and accessories, not to mention kit prices and scales. Your video definitely helped me take a leap forward in understanding what's going on. Thanks for the start to finish presentation.
Very nice video, excellent commentary and perfect music background! This was a true pleasure to watch. Thank you!
Aw yeah! Anytime Baby! by Meteor. Always a good choice for anything F-14.
Fantastic work! 😊
WOW. Fantastic build. To be honest words fail me. Just an amazing build truly. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to you next build.
Fantastic build and video. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful job my friend, great tribute to an amazing bird!
Model Level 'Expert': Achieved!! Easily the best 36 minutes and 28 seconds I have had this entire day.. 😃 I really liked the fact that some parts, like the moving wings etc were screwed on, as this will make it much stronger and keep things in place. Somebody at Tamiya had their head screwed on the right way, there.. What else can I say, but perfection.. :) Thanks for this.. I just wish I had more time for the hobby, but lately I'm just worn out from work and I find sleep more appealing, than getting the hobby gear out.. sad, but true.. 🐧
Thank you so much Rob, this comment made my day :)
Super nice build! Beautiful plane! 🙂
Using a brush with enamel thinner to clean up excess as you go along is a fantastic idea. Lots to digest from watching this video. You did well. Makes me want to get my Academy/Doyusha Tomcat kit out and resume work on it.
Great video Jared and a lovely looking F-14
Extremely excited to watch this one! Definitely going to be taking some notes...
Amazing work! Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Beautifully realistic kit, and with one of the most colorful and eye-catching liveries that Tomcats ever wore. Even the music at the end sounds so 1980s-ish and "Top Gunnish".
Coincidentally, my current project already started is Italeri's kit, which I am planning of finishing in the "Wolf Pack" livery. Did I have enough room at home, I would love to build more Tomcats; another one in that "Bounty Hunters" livery, but also the VF-32.
Excelent tutorial, thanks for sharing, amazing model, Congratulations!
Great video. Thank you
I found your channel from the Porco Rosso build. I love your clear explanation of the process. Your audio sounds great! Wonderful job again on this build.
Thank you, I'm glad that the audio is good, that is a huge relief :)
Hey sharp looking final result. I just finished the same model in the VF-213 scheme. I really like how clean yours turned out and the gray panel liner was a great choice.
Superb video Jared! Your best ever. Not to mention the build is excellent. I hope you are doing well. Take care buddy!
I can’t remember the colour code but if you look it up, it’s the mr color yellow for the blue angels f18 demo team, I would say it’s a nearly exact match for that tamiya LP you had disappointing results with. Great model mate!
Excelent job, fantastic,, congratulations
So great to see you again! Judy in Nova Scotia, Canada
Hi Judy, thanks for watching, good to see you too :)
Surely a Quality and expensive Kit from TAMIYA..🤗🤗👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍
I'm waiting for the MOJO to come back to make a start on this thanks for the multiple how 2s and glad to see you back have not seen anything from you in a while
Dont know how i missed this. But fantastic build rebels!!! Really like that you went with the hi-viz vf-2 scheme!
I think that's mostly my fault, I haven't uploaded anything in a long time and YT thinks my channel is dead. I'm trying to edit a new build video at the moment, but I don't have the time for the channel at the moment :/ But I'm going to try and upload more content this year :)
October 4, 2006, with the final flight retirement ceremony on September 21, 2006.
That's A Awesome Build!!🤗🤗Incredible DETAILS.!!😍..The paint work is AMAZING...I just do it with KRYLON grey ..😒
Inspiring build, Its a weird choice to put on a TARPS pod. But im glad somebody else actually did it, Most people prefer to go full aim-54 or bombs on the centerline pylon(s)
Im building the A version. Still waiting for the VF-102 decal and AN/ALQ-167 to go along with the TARPS pod. I hope it turns out to look as good as yours but i doubt it, yours are amazing 👍🏾
I built an A model the previous year and with that one I went all out and loaded it with ordinance, so I thought for this build it would be nice to simplify things with the TARPS Pod, plus it looked really fun to build in the instructions :)
IT LOOKS SO PERFECT....Can it FLY.!!🤯🤯🤗🤗🤗😍😍
Nice kitten there 😊. I've built the same a while back and went with the same loadout. I really wanted to add two AIM-54 on the front fuselage pylons, but I wasn't sure the real kitten could handle the extra weight because of the TARPS, so I chose not to add them. I also painted the black part of the nose like you did, instead of using the provided decal. This is a great kit from Tamiya. Maybe they all are 😊
I thought the TARPS would be a fun different addition compared to my other F-14A that I built last year. With that one I added all of the weapons I could to the pylons.
I was the lead 12C crewman for VF-2 on its last 2 cruses. Fun fact the top rocker "Last Tomcat Cruse" and later "Going out Swinging" bottom rocker on the twin tails we not authorised markings at the time. they were retroactively approved.
The starboard ventral fin has an antena on the out bourd side, in it that should not be painted. On the real plain it was about the size of a note book standing upright. It can be seen in the modle. 13:08 But how would you repersent the honeycomb compositeon such a small model? I know you said that the blue was hard to apply but for us it was that yellow. It just did not want to stick if it was too hot out.
34:37 Last the yellow caps to the vertical stabilizers have the kick down on the leading edge, instead of straight accross because of me. I pointed out that by painting the entire pannel the same yellow color we would save 8-15 man hours of labor every time the avionics technicians needed to scratch them all up. Originaly they were yellow top, gray bottom, with a black border line 1/2 inch wide. The black border line would also go accross another pannel that could not be removed.
Still outstanding job.
Thanks for your comment, this was really exciting to read :) I found several pictures of this F-14 with the lower fin, but in some of the pictures it looked like copper, or gold. I couldn't find any proper pictures that showed the fiberglass covering, so I made the decision to leave it painted blue. I do regret that and wish that instead I made a decal with the color and texture.
That was because of you? I really had a hard time painting that yellow section on the tails haha. It was tricky because that section of the tails in that scale had a lot of raised edges and I had a hard time getting the tape to conform to the area. But even though it was a bit frustrating, I still think it looks really sharp :)
Thanks again for your comment, your insights into this F-14 were really helpful. This is one kit that I want to keep on building. I've got another F-14A that I have to still edit and upload, this one is a Sundowner.
If you take requests, build the Academy A-10C in 1/48 next! Fantastic kit.
If I can get one sure :)
Great build video. I'm doing the hobbyboss 1/72 in vf-2. Also what's the music you used in this video it's quite relaxing 😌
Thank you very much :) I've listed all of the music in the video description, as well they are linked to the website where you can download them for free.
