I find his outdoor paintings more fascinating than the studio pieces. The raw imagine of a far away location on a given day is priceless.
His art is significant because he obviously made millions of people happy and uplifted their spirits. That is what art is supposed to do. In that respect, he was a great artist and worthy of respect.
What an eye opener! Artists who belittle his talent should watch this video.
Kincade did honest and beautiful plein air work. I'm no fan of his idealized prints - but now understand why many people are. I heard that 1 in 10 households have a Kinkade! Don't doubt it because just about every someone approaches me while I'm out painting ask me if I know his work...and if I like it. Well, now I can honestly answer with a "yes. I certainly respect his plein air work!

I fell in love with your talent in painting! I took a whole day to Google your work. It was amazing learning about you and the work you had done! Plein Air tradition is going back to the things that are always been with us..nature..family, and just about everything we can touch and see. Beautiful impressions!!

It is a very sad affair when people have nothing nice to say about a guy who loved what he did! as artists we all might have a certain style that others disagree with! but we all enjoy the craft and as a plein air painter myself have nothing but respect for those who paint and see natures beauty as she is an awe inspiring element from God! yes we lost you far to early Thomas R.I.P
I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a body of "critics" who themselves have no eye for art, and secretly know this yet have great admiration for those who do. They are confused by what they see and read from other critics because they have not studied for themselves the different styles that are out there; don't know what's behind them. They see something, that they themselves find beautiful, being verbally torn down by critics, and, without confidence in their own artistic judgement, feel they can
"play the game", and likewise find something that's "too obviously beautiful", and jump all over it to prove how "sophisticated" THEY are. The world of art is ripe for the "Emperor's New Clothes" psychology.

Very true. The art TK is known for is the art the public wanted from him. As we can see in this video he could produce other styles.
Pro tip : you can watch movies at KaldroStream. Been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.

R.I.P. Mr. Kinkade... Not a HUGE fan of your work, but you are VERY much respected for your eye, skill, technique, marketing skills, etc, etc... Too bad/Very sad that you were not able to stay around longer and continue to give the world your work, that inspired and was loved by so many...

People said the same thing about Norman Rockwell and Andrew Wyeth. This seems to be the common thing from many artists who are not recognized in their lifetime, that they are very condescending to artists who are commercially successful.

Just like John Constable, I feel Thomas Kinkade’s plein air work and his outdoor sketches were vastly superior to his tightly executed studio paintings. If he had have pursued a career creating art for regular galleries, maybe he would have been taken seriously as an artist by the art world? His early paintings of the American West are also stunning. Just my opinion :)

Thank you for an informative video. 'Plein air' working does convey some of the artist's physical and emotional reactions to a scene through to the finished work. Might be the brilliant light in a scene accentuated by having to screw your eyes up to see through the glare resulting in a lack of detail. It might be a grimness of weather conditions accentuated by having frozen feet - or a numb backside from sitting on a nylon canvas folding stool for long periods. These are the things that are not conveyed through studio painting.

"Nobody but maybe Thomas Kinkade talks about art as an effort record beauty to and to lift peoples spirits..." this Mr. Dorherty, is not in anyway true, but what you would say to those buying Thomas Kinkade artwork or prints... I have no doubt. Thomas Kinkade was lucky enough to AFFORD the luxury of going abroad to alien air paint VIA his appeal to the middle American audience, for which, there is very little educated knowledge of art at all. If Cracker Barrel were to one day have a museum, Thomas Kinkade would be its focal point. I also see how this is a large chunk of income for the American artist magazine at the time. This video shows how Thomas was chained to that audience and his travels are therapy for the trap.

I have a much deeper respect for Thomas Kincade, I must admit being a bit naive not knowing he did paint from life. Never judge a book by it's cover I suppose. I wrote on this plein air vs studio on my blog, probably inappropriate to share here, but some good points brought up. Thanks

Wow, the jealousy and hate by some is really revealing.
He's white, he's Christian, he's conservative, and he's unapologetically American... Now you know why he is hated by so many in the liberal snob art world. Bob Ross also had the same issues.
kinkade did 1,000 paintings , great worh but bob ross has a similar technique and dod 20,000 paintings , they both died at 54 ??

His plein air stuff is well worth looking, but, in my opinion, his studio stuff is "motel" art. If you've ever wondered where all those bad paintings of barns and street scenes in cheap motel rooms come from (or are inspired by) well Kinkade's your man. Doesn't mean this isn't a talented painter, just kind of fussy. Does his eye really keep every single detail in focus? Mine doesn't. Okay, fire away. If one has an opinion these day's that differs from someone else they're usually labeled "moron." Love ya'll. Keep makin art.
Bob Ross, never had 20,000 pictures , laik Kinkade he has 1000 but copiss. bouth of them don't have any velue in painting.

Bob Ross estimated he painted 30,000 paintings. He often painted the same image more than once. He gave most of them away to friends and relatives and donated the rest to charity auctions such as PBS. Kincade was a scam artist.
