Zermatt to Cervinia | Matterhorn Glacier Crossing via Klein Matterhorn | Switzerland to Italy

My journey from Zermatt to Cervinia was an unexpected adventure in mid-winter! With the newly opened “Alpine Crossing” cableway, it was supposed to be an easy trip with a series of gondola rides. I’d been planning to visit my friend who lives on the Italian side. However, 2 days before my departure, I found out that “Alpine Crossing” between Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and Testa Grigia was closed until April due to maintenance work. My new plan was to meet my friend at Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and walk across the glacier together with a harness and rope! Traversing the high alpine landscape with the view of the southern face of the Matterhorn was unforgettable! What an incredible journey from Switzerland to Italy! The views from the gondolas were also amazing.

This is beautiful. Very well edited. I plan to hike the Tour of Monte Rosa and it covers this area. I love it all times of the year but even more stunning in summer when the landscape gives us many colours and lakes are thawed and can see all the reflections.

Hi Robin, the towns at the Italian side were a little quieter than Swiss side. Cervinia was a busy ski resort town but there are some smaller villages near Cervinia, my friend lives one of the villages. Food was amazing in the Italian side for sure! It was interesting to visit and experience both Swiss side and Italian side.

Wow, Switzerland in the winter is beyond amazing! Zermatt reminds me a little of Leavenworth, WA...only times a thousand! I felt envious watching the skiers. I used to ski a bit many years ago...wish I could become young again and go skiing in Switzerland! 😅 I'm really glad you went in the winter; I enjoyed the videos so much! What were the temperatures like (day vs. night)? Everyone appeared to be dressed warmly. 🔥❄️

Hi Shirly, the winter in Zermatt was magical. It was a true winter wonderland! I don't ski but I enjoyed just being there 💖
The temperatures are teens to 20s but I felt a lot warmer in the sun. It was dry cold. I felt the wet cold in 26 degrees this morning was colder 😅

This is really amazing journey you taken. I plan to visit Mattherhorn Glacier Paradise this mid of June. I would like to experience to walk from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise- Testa Grigia. And, i plan to take cable car back to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. There is little information on this trail on youtube and internet.
May i know what is distance between these two places and how long it takes to walk to Testa Grigia ? Is wearing normal hiking shoe good enough for this walk?

Mid June is a good time to visit Zermatt! I'm not sure the ski slope and the glacier conditions during summer, I hope it's good. Good thing is the cable car is back on the operation, you can ride back to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Enjoy your trip!
