▢ 2¼ tsp baking powder
▢ ¾ tsp salt
▢ 1⅔ cups granulated sugar (333g)
▢ ¾ cup unsalted butter room temperature (170g)
▢ 3 large eggs room temperature
▢ 1 Tbsp vanilla (15mL)
▢ 1 cup buttermilk (240mL)
why is there no baking soda in the recipie

Ever since I started decorating cakes, I've been making this cake recipe and its absolutely perfect. The cake is moist and soft and so delicious 😋. I'm only 14 but I've been baking by myself since 10 and this is by far the best cake recipe I've made.

Here it is written out! :) (I wrote this it isn’t copied + pasted)
2 1/2 cups- flour (put in a bowl)
3/4 tsp- salt (add in)
2 1/4 tsp- baking power (add in)
3/4 cup- butter (beat till fluffy in a separate bowl)
1 2/3 cup- sugar (add into butter mixture)
3- eggs (add into butter and sugar mixture, one at a time)
1 tbsp- vanilla (add into the mixture above)
*combine the two mixtures adding 1 cup of the flour, salt and baking power mixture into the wet mixture (try and make everything room temp)*
1 cup- buttermilk (add into the wet mixture as you are combining everything) *I used regular milk as I didn’t have buttermilk*
*measure and pour into your tins that you are going to cook in* *If you are using two tins, there should be about 600g in each*
*cook at 350 for 30 mins*

@@Nails_By_Kimberlee Yeah life style change is so much better...I have lost 22lbs on my new Iife style change. You can lose weight slowly if you count calories. Just a slight calorie deficit and count in the stuff you love to eat! You will have bad days where you eat too much but don't give up!💜

I have watched this video like 15 times in the past week because I wanted to make this for my sister's birthday and i wanted to get it right. Even though i had memorized the recipe, i still played the video and baked it along with John lol... And the end result was amazing!! I'm 17 and I just got into baking but I've never made a cake before. I even used a 13x9 inch glass baking dish/pan because i didnt have cake rounds. I am so proud of myself. Thank you, John! My confidence has skyrocketed. Time to try other recipes on this channel:-)

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.Years ago,I used to love cooking but over the years,it became a disliked chore.My second oldest daughter discovered she loved cooking when she was 13. She got a job at a local dairy queen last year and had many,many compliments from customers saying she cooked the chicken to perfection.She was working second shift,after school and was saving for college. She had turned 18 a few weeks before December. Early last December,she was driving home after work late one night. Less than 4 minutes from home,she wrecked and died.I still don't know what caused it. I got an alert for this video and decided on a whim to watch it,I haven't been watching many things since December. I found myself smiling and even laughing.Your sunny disposition and cheeriness while making your videos has brightened my day.My youngest who is 9,sat down and watched some of your cooking videos with me. For the first time in months,I got excited about trying something- cooking again.And watching more of your cooking videos. So thank you for giving me light at the end of a dark tunnel and something to look forward to doing again.Keep up the great work!❤️

I just did the other recipe combined with bits of this one because I checked up his blog first. Used sour cream instead of buttermilk and it turned out great!
Just took mine out of the oven, then saw this post. Did the older version use sour cream?
@@cathysmith5079 Yeah, the old version used 120 ml of whole milk and 120 ml of sour cream if you used 3 egg whites. If you wanted to use 3 full eggs, then it would be 120 ml of milk and 60 ml of sour cream, I did it that way (3 full eggs) and it tastes just like a big yummy vanilla cupcake!

Just made this for my son’s birthday! Very easy recipe. I added 1/4 cup of sprinkles and used a space rocket shaped cake pan. I’m not good at frosting, so the whole thing looked like a middle schooler’s art project, but it tasted delicious! Thanks for the recipe and greetings from Finland 🇫🇮

The sponge was perfectly moist, not too fluff, not too dense and flavourful...half of it is already gone! Dinner time was a struggle...the little one couldn't understand why I was serving mukimo/beef instead of the "pweety, waund, yummy cake" she saw me frosting before dinner time.

I love making your recipes so much, John. Every recipe I've done is superb and fits my taste perfectly. It's so sad that I can't attempt this vanilla cake recipe. There's something about butter in cakes that throw my taste buds off. Cakes made with butter literally taste like pancakes to me. Not that I hate pancakes, it's just weird that it tastes exactly the same.

Let me just say that this recipe is the best and the cake is perfection! The crumb is beautiful and tender, so much so that I didn't have to cut it to be sure, you can feel it by just touching the surface. Also, it did not dome but baked quite evenly even without doing the fabric strip around it, so I won't have to do any shaving in order to frost it. When I say the cake is beautiful, I really mean it. I am sincerely impressed, hats off to you John!

I made this recipe this weekend for my family and they loved it.
