    → For reference, I'm 5'3 or 160cm in height. My usual size is a XS or US 0-2 and AU 6. I wear a W26 in jeans and often size up for pants to AU8, US 2-4.

    I'm a 37.5, most of the time if there are no half sizes, I take 38. For Bared Footwear, I find them to run true to size but as they are wider and have insoles that help adjust sizing, I can go down to 37 (as opposed to 38)

    These are such great insights. I so regret cramming my foot into poorly made, cheap shoes for years; my feet have paid the price. I think you can often find affordable clothing that rivals higher end, but when it comes to shoes... you get what you pay for... or you pay for it eventually!

    I LOVE that a lot of Bared’s sandals will have an adjustable back strap in addition to an adjustable front strap. I think it’s why their straps don’t rub - you can place the strap wherever is the most comfortable for you. That and of course the leather is ridiculously soft and high quality.

      Such a small detail but really does make it fit 10x better :) I don't know how they do it with the soft leather but I've never gotten a blister from any of their shoes.

    Shoes that are adjustable are the best since I have wide feet, comfort is very important as I get older :)

      I still love my LV reverse monogram *jklux* clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic.

    For sandals I also like when the footbed is suede leather, so even when your feet sweat, they don't slip around.
    I generally go for real shoe brands, like the brands specifies in making shoes. I have very sensitive and wider feet and I up on my feet all day, so only quality shoes are an Option.

    Aaahh! Thank you so much for this video!! I was just looking for summer sandals last night since my Alohas crossed espadrilles broke after 5 years. I do recommend, but I want to try a new style for my next pair.

    Great video. all your tips sounded like my mom's reminders when we went for shoe shopping when I was a teen. but the stubborn in me always liked the nicer (not supportive) ones and now I'm regretting it 😭

    This is so helpful Helen, thank you so much! I realized I gravitate towards dainty and strappy sandals and this is probably why I get so many blisters.

    Hi Helen!
    Thank you for these very helpful tips and recommendations!
    I highly recommend you give the Onitsuka Tigers Mexico 66 a try! They are surprisingly the most confortable sneakers I have ever owned, eventhough they are quite thin. I have rather wide feet and do tons of walking everyday and they are the perfect fit for me. I have had two pairs for a little over a year now and they still look great! They are very supportive and lightweight and also super fun to style! There are tons of colours to choose from. I have a cream and muted blue pair and a burgundy and yellow pair and they are the cutest :) They run on the smaller size though, so you might want to size up half a size (I'm a 37 and I went for a 37.5).
    I hope that was helpful! Let me know if you give them a try!

    I bought the pelican boots from bared footwear because I was looking for boots that had either Blake stitching or a Goodyear welt. They are the prettiest shoes I own.

    Argh, I bought a pair of sandals for this summer. They're very comfortable and I can walk in them for hours, but in the end I don't love the aesthetics. Velcro just isn't too nice. That's really frustrating.

    When it comes to sneakers, I get confused, but I have a nice black pair that seem to work with a lot of outfits.
    My choice of footwear is limited because like you, I walk a lot and I have fairly wide feet. My feet are also large and it's hard to find shoes that look good.
    I love your fisherman's sandals.

  • @vt1527

    I never realised that apparently I have relatively narrow feet since they don’t look that narrow to me. However when I got fitted for off country ski boots the salesman told me that my feet are narrow which is why most ski boots won’t fit me properly since they are too wide and offer too little support. Luckily I then found my perfect pair of ski boots and usually don’t have problems with regular shoes in general 😊

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  Pƙed 9 dny +1

      The good news is that a lot of shoes fit narrow so you've got options :)) I have the opposite problem with ski boots where half of them are too narrow haha. Thank you for watching x

      Omgosh, I am a bit of a Rollie addict! Their Weekender sneakers are feather light, and the fisherman sandals are so comfy and cool and fit my style perfectly! And I have recently purchased the loafers and agree with you! Even without socks there are no blisters in sight! 💜

    Hi a Helen, could you explain why you personally sized up in the dark brown espadrilles? I also am a true 37.5, but I have rather narrow feet. I’m afraid if I size up, they will be too wide but if I size down, my toe will hang over the front. Can you explain the shoe a little more? I feel these shoes are just what I’m looking for but I don’t want to get the wrong size. I suppose I could get both and try them but I’d rather not.

    when it comes to sandals game, i'm still struggling. I need a pair of beautiful ones yet comfortable and having a little bit of platform at least 2 inches cause i'm only 5'4 -___-

      If you don’t mind a semi-chunky fisherman’s sandal, check out the Australian brand Rollie. I’m 5’3” and the thick sole is so comfortable.

      Same. I tried out a leather sandal from them and they were hands down the most uncomfortable, ill fitting shoe for my medium-wide foot.

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  Pƙed 9 dny

      I think there seems to be some differences from style to style. The gold pair I have are on the narrower side but my fisherman sandals are quite wide as with my canary boots (some of the widest fit shoes I've tried).

    Hello! I have on my wishlist the camel ballet flats from Flattered. What do you think about them? Do you know if they are true to size and if they are comfortable? Do you have any other recommendations for camel ballet flats? Thank you!

    To find the best shoes for YOUR feet you just have to try on any and every pair.
    One time I was in Vegas and they have all the high street brands there so l tried on everything. Only one brand fits me like a glove (Fendi), every other shoe was just really uncomfortable.
    Same applies to lower price points, regardless how trendy or popular they are. (Birkenstock comes to mind, it was just awful)
    So when you find a brand that fits you well, stick with them and ignore the rest. And never buy a new brand without trying it on first.

    • @littlelady7843
      @littlelady7843 Pƙed 10 dny

      I totally agree with this. Shoes and pants are the two things that you have to try on to know whether it fits. That was hard lessons learned over many years after wasting a lot of money and time.

    • @DailyHelenJ
      @DailyHelenJ  Pƙed 9 dny +2

      Trying on is ALWAYS the way to go :) However with some shoes e.g. loafers - I've had some that were uncomfortable to begin with but ended up being SUPER comfy. So knowing preferences and why certain things work also helps when we're deciding.

    • @littlelady7843
      @littlelady7843 Pƙed 9 dny +1

      When I was younger, I had more patience to break in to new shoes. Now days I only buy shoes fit from the beginning, don’t require much break in. High quality shoes made with soft leather are like that. It does take more effort to find them. But one pair will last many years. It is worth if the effort.
