David Lynch used the same technique of reversing vocals that they used in the Twin Peaks series. Sing forward, reverse it, learn it reversed, sing it the new way, then reverse it again.
The normal or reversed song both have forward and reversed tracks, theres some percussion and bass and a keyboard that is actually normally recorded over a set of reversed tracks. Me and friend reversed it back when it was first released and were mesmerized - glad i found this thanks for posting this.
Thom actually sang some of the verses backwards, you can notice it in the normal version that the sound his voice makes is a little weird, that's because the original recording was a backwards spelling.
myxomaton I wonder if Thom was influenced by Bowie? Gary Numan? David Bowie was a master of early Computer and Synth wizardry. Earlier electronic Music was amazing! I had this on CD...this Album got scratched by Playing it and moving it CONSTANTLY. Mystical, Beautiful song. My baby brother is grown up and grew up on this one, and he was MESMERIZED WITH KID A AND AMNESIAC. THE 2ND VERSION Played here WAS NOT ON THE CD. MY GOD, WHERE THE HELL DID THE TIME GO? IT WAS JUST YESTERDAY, I SWEAR! MY brother grew to love Rave music. My fault? The raves are deadly these days, and they were not underground yet when this was produced. I ❤️ Radiohead! Timeless...
***** This is one of those groups that fly so far under the radar, but probably have one of the largest followings anywhere. I even tattooed them on my arm. Probably one of my top five groups of all time.
This song really means a lot to me because I feel like my life is just fucking thinking the same stuff over and over and not being able to say it, it really does feel like spinning plates
Radiohead is a gift from the heavens. Amnesiac is pure genius -- a masterpiece. This track, along with Pyramid Song, will hold a very special place in my heart and soul for the rest of my days. Thank you
I love how thom yorkes voice gives off the impression of being buried, snuffed out or drowning through this song and then gracefully breaks through @ 2:28 goddamnit radiohead
This takes me back to over 15 years ago, still in high school...driving around smoking pot, having my mind blown by this amazing shit. Sigh, good times.
Radiohead es una de las bandas mas originales y creativas desde final de los 90, nunca se encasillaron, suenan como ninguno, experimentan y sientan las bases para nuevos generos.. alucinantes canciones las que sacan
“Can’t see that far back” on the Forward Track? - makes sense for the title Amnesiac. While you make pretty speeches, I’m being cut to shreds, you feed me to the Lions, a delicate balance. When this just feels like spinning plates, I’m living in cloud cuckoo land... our bodies floating down a muddy river How relevant to today this is... the fall of the next Holy Roman Empire .... we’re sliding down the slippery slope
How you dare you not mention Pyramid song sir. One of the best songs ive ever heard. You and Whose Army and I Might Be Wrong are also just too good to ignore. Oh and fuck me, Life in a Glass House may actually be the best song Radiohead has ever written, although I love the feel of like Spinning Plates quite a lot.
Haha it's I Will from Hail To The Thief reversed. But how the heck does that work? I mean how can you compose something which sounds great both forwards and backwards?
I actually wish they some day (somehow) play this original track live! the piano version's good but.. I still love this more, one of the stand-outs from Amnesiac.
@@BareBandSubscription i was thinking they could flip the envelope on whatever synthesizer they are using and play the notes backwards. for the "swooshing" sound one of them could use a glitch pedal on a drum played at the start of the song or something. the "strings" could also literally just be a guitar (or, you know, an actual violin) with a bunch of reverb pedals like they did for Treefingers. if there is a double bass then it could be played less staccato and have longer, drawn-out notes to hide the fact that it's not playing backwards. there's also some chimes in the background that could easily be sequenced and sampled onto a tape, it surely wouldn't matter.
On my point of view, it is one of the best song of Radiohead. I love the darkness of this track. I prefeer this verssion not the another with simphonic style
This is a genius. Only Tom can feel the pain of the world like that. And she hasn't gone anywhere since. Now we're here in 2020 but Radiohead is living in Eternal.
niemals traurig sein, gefühle dieser art und weise existieren nicht an der front, nicht an der front, wo wir waren, wir haben federn gelassen, bitte niemals fragen
today years old when i found out there were actual lyrics instead of him just vocalizing... this was the first cd I bought from them I'm pretty sure I got it came out (for pyramid song)
Just heard this for the first time ever ... I over played Ok Computer and so did like everyone I knew when it came out and never have listened to Radiohead since, they’ve come so far ... I feel I maybe have some catching up to do :)
this is so incredible, I wish I could share my love of this song with one of the persons in the comment section, in reality ! ncredible botch backwards and normal
Why are people saying it's "I will"? The lyrics are, "While you make pretty speeches, I'm being cut to shreds. You feed me to the lions, a delicate balance. And this just feels like spinning plates. I'm living in cloud cuckoo land. And this just feels like spinning plates. My body's floating down muddy river."
Thom and kurt cobain respected rem as musicians, i dont know why, rem was pretty meat and potatoes music and kurt and thom lived in their own universe, this song is proof thom did
I love this song. I love its darkness. I prefer this version, not the symphonic version. I read that they wrote when the band stayed in Kolkata. Nobody knows about this story?
I only just noticed how similar this song is to to the Lisa Gerrard song Shadow Magnet. The main melody and the synth that's really prominent at the end of this song is so similar to the synth in Shadow Magnet around 1:46 and 4:15 in that song.
While we're here in 2017, Radiohead is living in 3017.
it's 2019. go back! back now, it's better back there...
more like 7102
So Tru 👽
This was released in 2001
They're living in cloud cuckoo land
The more I listen to this track, the more I like it.
Actually, the first time I did it didn't appeal me at all.
Now, it's one of my favorites.
this is when Thom is at his most fucking beautiful. Songs like this, Pyramid Song and How To Disappear Completely. Just fucking brilliant.
And after all this time, he's still got it. Think Daydream, among the rest on the new album.
how to disappear completely...so good
Yeah boi
Absolutely brilliant
++
How to disappear completely makes me cry everytime
it sounds as if it has been recorded in the black lodge of twin peaks
Haha I thought that exact thing while watching twin peaks last year
IT WAS!!
David Lynch used the same technique of reversing vocals that they used in the Twin Peaks series. Sing forward, reverse it, learn it reversed, sing it the new way, then reverse it again.
A song, that sounds like it's unraveling the mysteries of life.

you feed me cheetoooooooos
JAJAJAA OMG
omagad
i wont ever un hear this
song ruined
God damn it
You feed me to the liiiioooonnnssssss

I wrote this
@@ledzeppelinrestores not the chorus, just everything before it
this right here, this is what music is all about.
Greg Picadash god yes

I'd like to get the bear. What did you get, matey?
Nice! I`ve got two Radioheadtattoos.
Yes, this is the glorious entry to the divine mindfulness
#mindfulness
This song really means a lot to me because I feel like my life is just fucking thinking the same stuff over and over and not being able to say it, it really does feel like spinning plates
Break that cycle. Be happy. Harm nobody. Find yourself.
I know how you feel.

Chapterhouse86 i was in college...same!
The intro to the reversed version is orgasmic
Holy fucking shit
Almost can't tell the difference in the vocals being Thom Yorke xD
Me too,
Normal: 0:00
Forward: 4:00

Lmao "cloud cuckoo land" 😂
I feel like I traveled to another dimension
You can hear the "proper version" of the Forward Track as "I Will" in Hail To The Thief.
Best track on amnesiac by a mile
Inclined to agree with you, but You and Whose Army is also fantastic.
How you dare you not mention Pyramid song sir. One of the best songs ive ever heard. You and Whose Army and I Might Be Wrong are also just too good to ignore. Oh and fuck me, Life in a Glass House may actually be the best song Radiohead has ever written, although I love the feel of like Spinning Plates quite a lot.
i love ALL Amnesiac ... but the edge for me is always for IMBW
Barry Jones i might be wrong outstands this
I might be wrong, there there... simply an outstanding album
this is my favorite radiohead song
Dave Jordan fell in love with as soon as I first heard it. It has incredible, beautifully melancholic atmosphere.
I love this song in this version. From my personal point of view, it is one of the best Radiohead's song
5:34
"Little baby's eyes...eyes, eyes, eyes..."
Esa canción me hace sentir náuseas y un nudo en la garganta cada vez que la escucho. Escalofriante y macabramente bella canción.
This would be good music for a creepy horror film. I mean that as a compliment.
what the fuck this made my spine tingle
First time I heard the live piano version was live. Possibly greatest concert memory.
How could it not be the best concert memory?!?
Best song ever. 84 people don’t understand art.
There's no One like radiohead for alternative/unusual music. GENIUS
Thom said atop liking us we want normal lives 2020
so evident it was an early version of I WILL. cheers for postings. You can get why Thom thought it was too Kraftwerk initially.
I love this song, it is very dark... one of my favorites Radiohead's songs
I learned the live version of this on piano. it's a beautiful song. I've never listened to it forward, and I'm glad I have now.
0:48 is a sample from "Windows of the World" by Isaac Hayes
Great observation!
Haha it's I Will from Hail To The Thief reversed. But how the heck does that work? I mean how can you compose something which sounds great both forwards and backwards?
Shammo Hamid magic
check out "Little Red Riding Hood Hit the Road" by Robert Wyatt - a fantastic palindrome epic:)
It's called a musical palindrome. Something that sounds the same forwards or backwards.
Aleister Crowley
thank you
I actually wish they some day (somehow) play this original track live! the piano version's good but.. I still love this more, one of the stand-outs from Amnesiac.
Karel Zich I love the live piano versions best but this one is amazing with headphones
Karel Zich I saw it live Greenwood puts a guitar on the floor and strums up and down the strings creating these weird worbly effects with it.
K Hill I'm interested
Do you have a video of it or know of any?
They really could just use a backing track with live embellishments, but they’ll probably never do that.
@@BareBandSubscription i was thinking they could flip the envelope on whatever synthesizer they are using and play the notes backwards.

the forward track is probably "I Will"
I agree. Great observation.
it is interviews from the time say this too
it is i will. Ed has already confirmed that definitely it is.
Here’s more information: www.citizeninsane.eu
And yes its generated from "i will"
even tho amnesiac came earlier than hail to the thief
i think I Will was written before Amnesiac.
edit: maybe even before Kid A
There’s footage of Thom singing “I Will” during rehearsals in the OK-era documentary Meeting People Is Easy.
Thom wrote I will in 1994 mate.
On my point of view, it is one of the best song of Radiohead. I love the darkness of this track. I prefeer this verssion not the another with simphonic style
Lol my cat always runs upstairs to my room when I play this in the living room.
I guess she doesn't spin her plates lol.
Lol she can't stand thom yorke yeowling
This is what it sounds like at the gates of Heaven. Mystical.
Somehow I sincerely doubt it will sound anything like this.
Still GREAT music in 2019..
And took much more meaning in 2020 and beyond. Epic that the song was written in 2001.
I remember hearing this on the movie Bomb The System! Directed or produced by El-P! Awesome scene you all haven't seen it
I've seen it! It's about graffiti artists who want to make a big mark on the city. It's got Mark Webber in it and Jade Yorker!
Been looking for this weeks again its an amazing track....especially on piano
Prométeme que me llevarás en tus notas musicales, me llevarás de viaje por tu música.
This is a genius. Only Tom can feel the pain of the world like that. And she hasn't gone anywhere since.
Now we're here in 2020 but Radiohead is living in Eternal.
Le titre de la chanson est une référence à la technique de laboratoire de "spinning plates" utilisée pour mesurer l'alcalinité d'une solution.
omg the forward version is amazing too ❤
I love the dark Thom/Radiohead effects and layers.
Listening to this while drunk in NYC at night is very trippy
Come to Berlin.
Je ne sais si c'est le moment, ni le lieu, mais quelle beauté à écouter, c'est sincère
Luis Maniche pas de lieu ni de moment pertinent tant que ça te touche !

I've been listening to this for the whole day and can't get enough
@@YellowMilk14 Don't listen to it too much, it will lose it's magic.

gorgeous 👍
transcendental
This is why Radiohead is the only band that Matters~!!

Stoney Curtis Well I don’t know about thaaat
No idea how I got here, but here I am.

Best song ever 😍
This is a profoundly upsetting song but I love it so much
obsessed with the stuttering in the background
can we have more love for this amazing gem
1:43
Look up "corrugaphone" and imagine Thom whirling a plastic tube in the studio.
WTF !!! For years I have only listened to the reversed version. I am hearing this for the first time! Amazing!
Feel the music...
Why are people saying it's "I will"?
The lyrics are,
"While you make pretty speeches, I'm being cut to shreds.
You feed me to the lions, a delicate balance.
And this just feels like spinning plates.
I'm living in cloud cuckoo land.
And this just feels like spinning plates.
My body's floating down muddy river."
I think they’re saying that the reversed song sounds like an early version of I Will
Tommy Flynn It is. It was confirmed a while ago
holy crap this feels like something else!!
sounds like Thom having a stroke, but brilliant
I Will: Im the most apocalyptic Radiohead song
Like Spinning Plates: Allow me to introduce myself.
Spinning Plates has a whole new meaning when you realize it's about flying saucers.
foosmonkey - it’s not. The metaphor is spinning plates on thin sticks, like a highly stressful situation
flying saucers lol no it's not
that final line man
Thom and kurt cobain respected rem as musicians, i dont know why, rem was pretty meat and potatoes music and kurt and thom lived in their own universe, this song is proof thom did
Came back to listen in light of the Syria attacks. This world is fucked.
Well, Thom Yorke is an Islam apologist, so...
This album is just trip.
I would absolutely love an instrumental version of the backwards LSP
I’m here in 2019
Fuckin great
you can really hear the "little babies' eyes" part around 6:38
The reversed version was found in Kid A MNESIA Exhibition!!!
This track contributed to a change in humanity forever. Radiohead quite possibly saved the world. We shall see.
how
I think u could describe Thom Yorke as The Melodic
2001 was a crazy year...
My first Radiohead song
the existential doom of OUR EXISTENCE IS PURELY reverbing in this song from the deep souls of Radiohead who are from another alien race
I love this song. I love its darkness. I prefer this version, not the symphonic version. I read that they wrote when the band stayed in Kolkata. Nobody knows about this story?
the best song!!!!
Cracking tune, South Oxfordshire calling 🍺
