- Let me tell you how my RAM Mounts X-Grip has consistently failed over the past 6 weeks and how my iPhone 11 Pro-Max just flew off the RAM Mount at 70mph on the highway. They really need to up their game.
I now use the RAM Mount QuickGrip XL Phone Holder amzn.to/3Qpfigh

What has been your experience been with RAM Mounts? What about the X-Grip?
I have the same setup (bike and phone mount) for a Pixel 2. I've had it for a year or two and it's actually been great for local riding (don't do much highway). The rubber tips are surprisingly lose though for a $50 product.
If you decide to keep it, try changing the angle of your phone in the holder so the wind isn't pushing on the back of it as much. Maybe if you can angle it so the wind "slices" through it more, it'll have less force pushing it out. But after your experiences, I wouldn't blame you for finding a different product.
@@arwinvinnysardana3266 Thank you for the input. I'll try it.
Use the XL version. That elastic from the normal version is overstretch and it will break easy. Also be aware that any motorcycle mounts will damage your camera from phone as it has OIS. This is caused by vibration.
@@DarkSeekerVlad I've heard of this from one of the manufacturers I called and did not have a holder large enough for my phone with the Otterbox case I use.
Mine came with a small tube of superglue to glue the rubber things on. I've never had a problem with my mount, and I've never used the extra rubber thing to secure the phone. My only complaint is that my phone turns a bit in the mount, but that's pretty minor.
I have two X-Grips and have traveled 1000's of miles OFF ROAD across Europe using tracks like the TET and never had a problem. The kit comes with glue to attach the rubber tips. Never failed.
Is that what the glue is for? Sheesh wish they would include instructions.
@@snorman1911 it's called common sense.. 😅
@@snorman1911 yeah they should have included that on the instructions , thank God i saw another video and was able to make use of the glue
@@vicm.5619 common sense isnt that common lol
I didn't get any glue. Product is shit. I love in Seattle home of the ram mount. I wanna go tell them in person.
7 years with my medium xgrip,, 6 years on my large. 4 years on my wife’s, and 4 on my brothers. Zero problems with any of them, all still using our original rubbers, and none of us lost a rubber foot.
Also, I use my iPhone max in the small and the large, with a case on it, and even the small rubber stretches to fit it fine.
Thank you for the sharing and info about the problem of the caoutchouc mobil part.
For the 4 small Bump with the R logo it's look like you do not use the Glue they give with the X grip to lock them in position.
normally when the 4 bump was glued with the glue they do not have to move.
or have you glue them and they move anyway ?
best
Christophe
you normally get a small tube of superglue to glue the rubber grippers to the metal. Did you use glue ?
I’ve had mine on my hayabusa for years. Maybe the later years they decided to get cheap with the rubber. Just like those condoms I never used.
can this ram mount fit for Iphone SE?
I went to the website and checked to see the sizing specs before I bought it. Working great.
Great to hear!
I've got 3 x grips and never had a problem. I also do not use the rubber things you keep breaking. 2 of my x grips are in my side by side which frequently leaves the ground at high speeds and ive never had my phone fall out or my digital reverse camera rear view mirror fall down. Does your bike have square tires on it or something 🤔
Octagonal tires. They are smoother than square tires.
I have this same mount and the largest Samsung phone. Haven't had the same issues as you with the rubber holder or the rubber tips, but I can see it happening eventually. The problem I had was that the ball became extremely loose in the socket after a couple of uses, to the point where my phone was flopping around and I was worried about the whole bracket falling off. I stuffed a little tissue in the hole where the ball goes to tighten it up which worked for a few rides and now I notice the plastic is cracked. Not impressed for the price. Going to see if Revzilla will let me return or exchange it. Interesting the variety of responses you got from this post. Obviously not good quality control on these.
Update: Revzilla doesn't do returns unless something is in the package, unused. Pretty lame. But, RAM actually has a nice warranty portal where you upload a pic and they replace the broken part. They responded same day and immediately shipped a replacement of the cracked part which is due to arrive today. I'll update again if the same problem occurs.
Over time the bumpers will get worn through by the the metal tips. Mine did then they started to fall off. Got both sizes of the quick grip and problem solved.
I’ve used Ram mounts for years and had no problems with them.
My mount clamp exploded and the spring shot across the garage. I'm not sure now if the clamp takes one or two springs. I found one spring a rubber washer and metal washer.
It's junk.
Outside the ram x issue I just want to appreciate how gorgeous your Scout is!
Was.... it was totaled when I was hit head on January 31st. I have a video about it on my channel.
@@RemboUSMCOh noo! Holy shit! At least you survived. I will check out that video. Rip blue scout :(
My phone just fell off last weekend, it just snapped out of the holder and my phone is totaled. Thanks Ram
Is there a product that anyone could recommend that would be a great alternative? Something high quality.
Quadlock or Rokform is the best I've seen
thanks for posting ur experience
Thanks for watching!
@Rembo Get the Ram Quick Grip XL mount. It grabs the phone better than the X Grip. I own both.
Thank you
Maybe try cutting the "R" to make it a hole like the other side?
I am watching this as my rubber tether just snapped after 3rd ride of using it. Reading the comments, now I know what the glue is for... How hard would it be to just add a 1 line instruction note."Use glue to secure rubber tips"
They make a better product than this so I don't know why they still make this stupid X-Ring.
I've had mine for 4 years with no issues. I've replaced that rubber holder thing on Amazon.
Those rubber tether things come in two sizes. Standard and xl. If its ripping you may need the xl size. Don't ask how I know.
4 years with mine, still good
Your using a medium rubber mound on a large x grip with a large phone it’s going to snap as it’s not the right size it’s under too much stress if you get the large rubber price it will not break unless you use it wrong
I put rubber only top left corner n bottom right corner not fully or rubber snaps
Put Shoe-goo in the Grip pegs, we've lost lots of them before finding this trick !
Only used it 5 times Strap snapped as going down Road Two Opposite corners and Phone Flip up on its side and almost flew off had to grab it with left hand could have caused me to wreck or get hit from slowing down so fast. I think this Mount needs improvement would not Recommend it unless you have a cheap phone or lots of money to replace your phone.
Mine snapped on the very first use, I’ve emailed them for a warranty and am waiting to hear back
I have since moved onto a Nother product of theirs that is way better and has been working extremely well for well over a year now in the Florida sun.
It come now with a little CA glue bottle, I think this glue to prevent those rubber pads pop. The rubber band still hace the R logo and now after seen this im going to cut it and make it like the upper part. I use it on a plane and the system is rock solid but you are right about that flaw. Thank you.
I ended up using Gorilla Glue and so far so good. The glue they give you sucks just like the rubber retainers. I bought silicone ones from Amazon much cheaper and way, way better.
@@RemboUSMC czcams.com/video/vzUchSfAsms/video.html
Mine comes with a glue bottle as well , just bought today
@@RemboUSMC Mine broke just after few weeks of use, they not only send me a replacement for free, they sent 5 rubber bands.
Just last night my phone flew off my bike at 100 KM per hour or 60 MPH, it was because of one of the knobs fell off.. I got my phone back with an unnoticeable scratch as I have a very good case for the phone... I got super lucky, and consider it a life lesson, not using the RAM ever again, waiting on a phone holder that is water proof that attaches to the tank to come in the mail... it cost me less than the RAM did and im confident it will keep the phone safe.
Did you add the super glue to the inner rubber stoppers
Since then Gorilla glue seems to do the trick
My new one came with glue for the tips. Thx for the warning.
Switch to the quick grip.
More secure and less hassle to put the phone in once it is adjusted to the phone
Same happened to a friend 1500 miles from home.
I have one too. This expensive piece of junk works good if everything is intact, but nothing stays intact long. If anything isn't working(the nubs are missing or loose or if the rubber is broke), don't use it.
I just lost my iPhone last week when I hit a pothole on the 405 and it just popped up and out. The rubber had broken only weeks after I bought it and had been using a rubber band to secure the phone to the mount; and of course on the day I lost my phone I forgot to attach the rubber band. I spent over $50 on the mount and it was stupid purchase. There’s more reliable mounts for $10 on Amazon.
Bought a x grip for a note 20 and i accidentally got the smaller version. Still used it for months an it held the phone well. (Fell once an i think it was cause of a long ride and all those bumps) Finally bout a bigger one a lil bit ago an they both worked great. Dont think its meant to be perfect but it works. Your problem might be the phone is eating the wind an it just doesnt look like it was meant for that setup. I wouldnt trust any mount with a plus size phone an expect it to be completely safe with no windscreen
I have same my motorcycle over 1y iPhone 11 and now 13 and no problem 🤔
Did you glue those little grips on the metal pegs?
Yes I did
Just like everything on your bike you should use blue lock tight you should have jb welded the rubber stops ends on.
I ended up using Gorilla Glue
RAM makes other holders to accommodate phones with bulky cases, which this user probably had. They tell you specifically to buy the other if you have like an Otterbox or the like. This is user error on the riders end.
Nice video dude ! Thanks for the review ! One question, what about vibrations on the ram mount? Does the screen pressing by itself when you rev up the bike??
No, but I replaced that mount since then and that bike was totaled when I was hit head on. I have a different bike and a different setup now.
@@RemboUSMC omg for real? Are you ok?? Never mind the bike, your life is more important! Stay safe dude! 🤙
I've been using these mounts for years over many road trips. First thing to do is superglue the little ram bumpers into place. They won't go anywhere after that. Also, while I've never had the safety strap snap on me, it's good to have a spare.
I ended up using Gorilla glue but then replaced it with a new version from X-Grip
I super glued my replacement rubber bumpers.. my tether snapped kn the bottom also.. I do the same thing and use two one upside down cuz the top is a lot better than the bottom.. spot on w the logo.. works great w two tethers one upside down
My straps snap twice a year. And those bumpers don't stay glued forever. I reapply the glue twice a year. I ride every day
Damn brother, I just bought one of these. I watched this video after the fact, ughhhh! Well, I will use for a little bit and if this shit snaps, I take back to Cycle gear and get a Quad Lock. They are pretty close in price. Great video man!
Idk why people don't just get the quad lock, way more secure and more attachments like the vibration dampener, but I guess if you're the type to upgrade your phone every year then you'd have to buy a new case for said phone
But then again who cares about spending money on a new case every year if you're buying a new phone every year so scratch that, now there's no reason to get a ram mount lol
Your video prevented me from buying this. Much appreciated. Thank you.
Glad I could help
People are using these for years without issue. I've been using mine for 4. 3 years with a Samsung galaxy 9+, 1 year with my note 20 ultra.
@@booshting3520 I have also the ultra and am using this mount. So far so good.
Ruined my iPhone 12 Pro Max !! Worse mount ever. I feel your pain bro ..
Good review. However I wondering if you selected the RAM for your phone and also if it would happen the same if you remove your phone case protection. In other words, the phone protection might be what caused the failure and not the RAM rubber grip. FFF are important engineering attributes. If you modify one then you are not describing the proper product.
I have since replaced that crappy ram mount with another ram product that works significantly better and I’ve had zero issues with. So I stuck with the same brand, I just went to a better holder
@@RemboUSMC i just returned the unused same one. Was for my SE. but the stupid stud was pushing the ON/OFF switch. Worst of it, it was setting it up on Alarm 911 mode. Imagine that?! So yeah, I took it back to cycle Gear for a full refund. I ordered the alternative newer design and will mount it on the gas tank (special bracket). Will likely have to machine the bracket tho. The screws do not flush and I do not want them protrude from it as they would otherwise.
I have well over 10,000 miles on my bike and had the ram x mount since i got it i have never had a single issue with it i have an iphone 12 pro max would not recommend quad lock they are proven to destroy phones the tether that you got is the same i have seems like you are putting it on wrong bottom ones first top second
What kind of phone do you have ? If you have a iPhone Pro Max 11 or 12 it is too big. It like I am watch my dad 😂, they get mad/rants because they don’t do go enough research and they think if they put more money into it it will fix the problem.
11 pro max
I have had the larger X-Grip for a number of years and never had an issue. That one looks significantly smaller than the one I have. I will say that if you have the thicker Otterbox you are probably stretching the band a bit much.
I would also say that the way you have it mounted you are making your phone act like a "spoiler" The wind coming under it in the way it is mounted WILL lift the phone off the mount, especially at higher speeds. The mount is designed to have the phone more at an angle. towards the ground. If you like your phone mounted like that I suggest using the QuadLock mount. It's a better mount for the short handlebars like yours.
Thanks for the info. That bike has since gone to motorcycle heaven when I was hit head on January 31st of this year. I use it on my Ducati now and bought silicone ones from Amazon and they are way, way, way better and have not broken for months. Still being used. Cheaper too.
@@RemboUSMC Glad you're okay and still riding! So do you mean you are using an offbrand mount from Amazon or just the rubber piece that snapped at the logo in this video?
@@josiahlopez5724 Amazon has silicone holders that are way better than the rubber ones that keep breaking from RAM.
the Otterbox's are great arent they? my phone got saved by it on the highway when it fell off the RAM, that incident made me dislike the Ram but love the otterbox lol
I’ve always thought the x grip looked like crap. That’s why I went with the quick grip.
Better choice
-Just got one for my Wife & the bottom rubber tether gripper mount snapped the very FIRST time I tried to put the phone on it! 🤬
I have a ram mount that came with my mt09, I don't even use the rubber corner strap and the tips aren't even glued down and I haven't had any issues with it. Even holds on coming down hard off of wheelies, not that hardly Davidson riders would have to worry about that lol
I think the Harleys would just vibrate the whole thing off the bike... LOL
I’m have over 70,000 miles with my X-grip holding my phone. I don’t have the issues you have. I have the large iPhone in an otter case. Best mount I’ve used.
I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max should I get the large also ?
@@acceptjesuschrist4132 I’m not sure if mine is a large I have a 10X with the otterbox case and it’s very secure.
I had exactly the same experience with my X-grip. I almost lost my iPhone 13pro. Luckily the phone was not lost or damaged. I am looking for another mount.
strange. i use the xgrip WITHOUT the extra rubber thing that snhapped on urs ZERO problem
Yeah, I replaced it with another RAM Mount product that is 200% better. The X-Grip is not for me.
I'd like to know how to stop the damn thing from spinning... it's aggravating as hell
FYI: They make Two Sizes of X-Grip holders depending on the size of your device.
Correct.
@@RemboUSMC my guess is ur one is too big for ur phone, because unless ur offroad u dont need the strap to hold it in.
Never had a problem.
Phones, radios, iPad, and mics.
lol "on i95 in South Florida" that's enough for me to subscribe 😄 👍..
lol please let me know if you found a solution, I'll keep checking your other videos. 👍
I did. RAM makes a spring loaded all plastic grip
Can even install that shit on my r6 the screws are to big to fit it anywhere 😔
Did you use the glue?
Yes
Holy moley
Same scenario with me with the same thing happen 20 minutes after installing it on my brand new 2020 Harley Davidson street glide.Driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour my $1200 iPhone flew off the motorcycle, I called Ram mount and told them what happen. , they told me that they would send me the rubber tips that had been missing and to glue them on, I am absolutely afraid to put my new phone which cost me $250 to replace( Lucky I had insurance to cover a new phone) back in this holder, I removed it off my bike, And I asked Ram to give me a refund which they refused. I would not recommend this product at all, Buyer beware
Thanks for sharing
The instructions say to put glue so they don’t fly out 🤷🏽♂️
the little rubber need to glue again with 3 second super glue.
Just searched for this video to see if there were other complaints about the X-Grip. IMO, this product is garbage and totally different from the products Ram used to make. My phone is rugged and hefty at 412 grams and the flimsy X-Grip can not support this weight. I just wrote them asking for a mil-spec style phone holder for my mountain bike.
I heard back from Ram. The RAM® Spring Loaded Universal PDA Holder is the RAM mount that I know and love from the past. This Mount holds large phones very securely.
Ive been using mine for about 5 years... not one issue... and that's without the rubber band. you don't need it.
Mine snapped on first install 😂
Yep
X grip ram mount went through a crap load of tethers, those rubber bands just keep breaking. Those little rubber stoppers keep falling off, overall POS phone holder.
Agree
Quad mount rules & you can use your ball mount with it
LOL, I was just looking at that phone holder for my Note 20 Ultra. Thinking about getting a magnetic tank bag instead.
I didn’t like my tank bag won’t let you touch the phone plus can’t see real good thru plastic.
Rubber mounts should be glued, the glue comes with the product. Never had any issues with mine.
Yes, it was. I since used Gorilla glue and it worked. Stock glue with product failed.
they do sale spare tips and one more thing . put some super g;ue on the tips that is why the include a a little bit of super glue now ith the tips
I have since added Gorilla glue because the stock glue was not cutting it
This is literally the only negative review I’ve ever seen and these have been around since 1992 lol. I think it’s operator error .......
Using 3 different X-grip mounts for years now on CBR 1000, Speed Triple RS and Harley. Never had any issue, even at full speed on race tracks or high vibrating harley V-Twin. The small rubber tip can't be lost if you correctly use the superglue provided as mentioned...
Using the same security rubber net on my bikes for many years and never had any issue. Quad locks works great too but 1) depends where you live, it helps alot phone stealers at traffic lights who can steal it in half a second ( seen with my own eyes) 2) you can release teh phone by mistake while trying to access right sided buttons of your phone. I'll stick with Ram mounts for sure even if it's a bit less good looking than quadlock.
I lost 2 PHONES IN 1 WEEK because of the Ram mount. The silicone rubber thing broke, just like yours and everyone else's. So I thought just the fingers would be fine because my old similar cheapie made in China mount never lost a phone in 5 or 6 years. At 98 MPH I lost the first phone. Just 2 days later, I lost the new phone at less than 70 MPH. The spring for Ram mount fingers are WEAK. They hold the phone like dainty arthritic grandma fingers. My old mount's springs gripped the phone twice as hard. Not once did I lose a phone, at 140 MPH, dropping the bike on the freeway, potholes so hard I was nearly thrown off. I think the beefy arm tricks you into this false sense of security. All it does is make the mount heavy. Put some of that weight onto stronger springs for the fingers, will ya?
Yeah, I've moved to a better one since then.
You probably the reason ram mount bags are torn open and missing shit in the store.
That is quite the assumption.
There is no system that works for a phone, especially if you're dirt biking. Tried them all. The guys at the dirt bike dealerships have told me that none of them work. You will lose your phone eventually.
Ram mounts are great
You sure do expect impeccable quality from a company as reputable as RAM Mounts
I have a wayy cheaper alternative on my bike, been on long run and at average speeds it works just fine
Comes with a charger too
Make sure to notify their customer care
There's a different one called Quad Lock
Got my eye on that✌🏻
Thank you for the information. I will certainly look into that
Cut the R logo or get a chinese silcone strap that do not have the r. You can also not use the strap. It will hold with out the silcone strap on street riding.
@@jamiemui5186 I am skeptical the holder will work without the straps on the highway. I have no windshield or fairing. I'v heard from other people that, like you, say it will hold without the straps.
@@RemboUSMC I seen it hold on bmw r1250 with out a shield. It does not move. But amazon has silicon straps for the ram mount x grip from China. And the last one I had lasted 2 years. I just realized. Your using the wrong size unit. The xl isn’t for the largest iPhones.
I was on the phone with Ram Mount and this is the correct one according to them. I have since replaced it.
change ! ram quick
98% of car phone holders are complete garbage accept this Ram X Grip. I’ve wasted so much money on phone holders. The X Grip with a the heavy duty suction cup is the best one I’ve ever used. It’s best to have a suction cup lind because you can put it right in front of you so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to look at the navigation, it’s so so much safer. The X Grip is expensive but if you buy every other phone holder like I have you actually save money on the X Grip because it actually works. Phone holders are not one of those things you want to cheap out on because it will definitely show in anger and frustration.
I have since replaced it with a better one.

I replaced it with the Ram Quick Grip two years ago and it has worked great since.
No one agrees with you in the comments, so I'm going to assume it's just you.
No, it is a piece of crap. There are so many better products out there.
Why would you want to mount your phone to the bike? I see this as a risk. If you crash are you going to be with the bike? Probably not how do you call for help. Also if you crash do you expect the phone to stay in its mount? Even in a car I keep my phone in my pocket. If I get in a wreck I want to be able to call for help.
Get a tech mount.
I actually bought another product from RAM believe it or not.
Fix your shit ram mount our devices are expensive !
Glue it on.Your problem is you ride an Indian and not a Hardley.
Hardley? Hardley works
RAM mount is a piece of junk. The knob attached to the upper ball is made of plastic which breaks easily on bumpy road. My X-grip broke twice and the same plastic Go Pro mount broke as well because of the plastic knob. These RAM products just cut corners. I doubt Made in USA actually means Assembled in USA with cheap Chinese materials.
Lol. Ain't a bad product. It's just user error.. you know cycle gear has a website instead of wasting a trip out there.. F'n muppet
I have since replaced it with another RAM product that is way, way, better. This X-Grip is a piece of garbage. You are a real load.
Garbage mounts. I have an official ram x grip and my phone flew off at 70mph on an on ramp. Complete loss. Do not buy one.
also very overpriced for what it is
Get something different.
RAM mounts are big, ugly and absolutely useless. Worst design ever
