Man, what happened to the old saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"? I feel like it's almost become the cool thing these days to be rude. Qualities like empathy and compassion are seen as being weak. It's such a shame. 😕

Oh of course I've had this kind of experience. I'm also in the middle of the application process for nail tech school, and learning skills from youtube and my own nail tech. This kind of carelessness pisses me off so much! Do people not take any pride in their work anymore, not to mention taking the health and safety of the client seriously??? Why do so many nail techs just not care at all??? It baffles me.
Where I used to live, I was a longtime client at a certain nail salon owned by a husband and wife team. For some reason they got divorced and the salon went so downhill. He told me that round nails are the reason my nails kept breaking. For any who do not know, the shape of your free edge has nothing to do with your nail strength--it's just that rounded nails are more difficult to shape than square. I hate square nails. I also heard him tell another woman that ALL enhancements are bad for your nails. Why would you say that to a client??? Finally, I went in with some Colorstreet wraps on my nails once. I had been using Colorstreet for a year and a half and I always put them on myself. They're nail polish wraps that you simply take off with acetone like regular nail polish. The woman used a cotton pad and acetone to take off the color but then she stopped when the base coat was sticky and gooey and still left on my nails. I thought it was weird, but idk. Then she took a metal scraper and SCRAPED THE BASE COAT OFF MY NAIL. I tried to stop her SEVERAL TIMES and tell her she could just take it off with acetone but she INSISTED to me that it was GLUE and had to be scraped! She even showed me on the metal scraper the stuff that was coming off. I also have extreme anxiety and I'm terrified of confrontation, so I just sat there and let her but I was so pissed. I had been using that product on myself for a year and a half, so I KNEW it came off with just acetone. Of course, she scraped up layers of my nails and they were messed up for MONTHS. Never went back. I still beat myself up as to why I let her continue and didn't just jerk my hands back.
When I moved to the place where I live now, my mom and I went on a hunt for a good nail salon. The first we went to was so awful. They were fine with me, I just got a pedicure. But my mom had dip powder, and the OWNER OF THE SALON ripped her nails off too, instead of just soaking them off. My mom's beautiful, long nails that she had grown out were so broken and damaged.
Went to another nail salon where we actually stayed for a long time because the techs were so great even though I didn't like the owner. First time I got a pedicure, a woman who wasn't a nail tech did it. I'm very pale living in a beach town and when she saw my legs, she said, "You know we have beaches here, right?" I was just shocked. I thought we were all past commenting on people's bodies as a society. Thankfully, her daughter stood up for me and said she thought my skin was beautiful and I wouldn't have to worry about skin cancer when I got older. Her daughter was my nail tech for a while until my mom stole her from me. 🤣 But I met my current nail tech after that and we've become very good friends.

I'm 44 in January my niece 19 had an event at the academy she attended celebrating their graduation. I volunteered to be her model for her esthetician program. She was doing a skincare demonstration. At the end of the demonstration the instructor told me that I should start getting fillers now as a preventative method of aging before I turn 30. I politely informed her I was 44 and the skincare regimen that was demonstrated was something practiced in our family for generations. FYI the image in my profile is of me in July 2023 with no filters or editing. Pro tip don't forget sunscreen.

I don't do many 'girlie' things and went to the nail salon mostly because I have a split thumbnail from an injury years ago. So I had a natural looking gel overlay and loved it so much I went back - except after the first time I obviously wasn't at all important because the tech(actually the manager) was on her 'phone every time, carrying on conversations with the other techs about what they were planning for their weekend and so on. It was really awkward with someone so colse and yet ignoring me, I lost my nerve. so I watched tutorials and got my own gel, e-file and light etc and I do my nails watching your videos now!

This happened to me twice: 1st time: I asked for extensions with acrylic they had on display that had sparkles and was a beautiful color. After the service, a week later, they started popping off one at a time. They wouldn't redo them or refund me and I didn't want to come back every day for them to fix them one at a time. So I went to a different salon and they removed them and redid them with the basic powder acrylic and they lasted 3 to 4 weeks. 2nd time: the new salon had the same type of sparkley acrylic powder and I asked for it. They did it and this time 1 or 2 did pop off but not nearly as bad as the 1st time. I believe the rest of them stayed on. Well the crazy part is when I had them fix them, my regular tech wasn't there and the guy tech tells me in a hushed voice, " I don't know why she used that, you can't use that powder. Make sure you only come to fix 1 at a time and don't say anything else about it. Just ask to fix."
I still don't understand why that happened. Why do they have such a strange policy, and why do they offer products you can't use when it comes to acrylic?

I went for a pedicure at my local nail salon and during the service the young man cut my cuticle and made it bleed. He stopped the bleeding and finished the pedicure. The following week, I happened to notice that where the nail had started to grow out by the cuticle was discolored. So, I removed the polish from the nail. I was shocked to see the whole nail had blood underneath it. Eventually the whole nail fell off and it was over a year before it grew back. I didn't go for a pedicure during that time because I was afraid to get a secondary infection. 😢

I stopped going to salons ages ago. I have nerve damage in my hands so they don’t “relax” they’ll twitch jump and you have to be a bit more careful. I warn the techs well in advance of my appointments and expect to pay way more for just a regular gel polish service. It’s like they think I do it on purpose- anyhow I did actually hold a license many many many….🦕years ago and know how to do my own nails so I just do it now.

Omg why do they always ask to wax the upper lip!? Even when all you have is peach fuzz! I feel like they do that to make you insecure so you keep waxing it needlessly. Another thing is nail techs always complained about how small my nails beds are and how hard it is to do my nails. They always refuse to do gel nails saying they won’t stay on but then acrylics won’t either. Now I do my own gel nails and I know if you do it properly they won’t fall off. It just takes more time.

I love your videos! You have restored my faith in getting mani/pedis. By the way, my worst experience was a crummy nail salon where the techs let their kids run wild, yell, splash me with my own pedicure water, and even get into my pedicure bath with me. Did not know this kid or the techs since it was my first visit. It was also my last. Then when I went to pay, the kid filled up a bubble gun with milk and sprayed milk all over me. It was truly appalling, unsanitary, and unprofessional. And you better believe I left a Google review about the business, so no one else had to suffer through the same disgusting experience and pay for it :(

I love your videos !! Thank you for all your tips and knowledge share. I have been doing my own gel nails for 18 years, but I do love to have a professional nail tech do them now and then. I have had a few bad experiences with nail techs over-filing my nails too thin, and when I first started learning to use my e-file I did as well. I just learned to be better at it, and I do not go to nail techs a second time if they over-filed my nails. I also let the techs know if there was a problem such as over-filing. Maybe they were new and learning too 💅

I have never been treated like the samples you gave and can't believe people honestly say these things to clients. Maybe it's because I live in a fairly small town (60K people) and not a big city. Wow, people have no common sense anymore! I've only had minor frustrations from nail techs, like pulling my side walls back too hard (I am sensitive to pressure) and there was one woman who said I have fat fingers. What I've come to realise is that she meant I have puffy side walls on some of my fingers while the nail is set deeper into the skin. I do my own nails now because I enjoy it more than getting them done. But the worst thing I experienced from someone in beauty industry was actually a hairdresser. This guy snagged one of my piercings and made it bleed then he procceded to go on and on about how annoying it is when women come in with earrings in and how they should take them out etc. He then sprayed far too much hair spray onto my hair because he clearly wasn't used to working with wavy frizz prone hair. I have anxiety so I didn't say anything but I was so frustrated and covered in so much spray I went home and showered.
You have such beautiful hair by the way!

honestly i can relate to that pedi story. i have really bad psoriasis on my feet (and hands) so some parts are really raw during a new flare-up, while other areas of my skin are super calloused from old flare-ups. if a pedicurist isn't well-versed in working with various skin conditions, he/she might accidentally scrub or file me til i bleed. when my regular pedicurist left my salon, i pretty much quit gettin pedis. i didn't have the energy to explain my skin condition. 🥺

If any rude person insulted me about some part of my body I would point out how stunning and brave they are for being seen in public with a problem face like theirs and then not explain what I meant.

I won’t (and have never!) step foot into a salon because of that fear. I’ve taught myself everything!!! I barely have any hair, but still. Our bodies are precious and we deserve dignity and respect.

At one point, I had to go pee so I excused myself and when I came back he continued on my nails, he put a product on my nail (I’m assuming) a primer. … still making jokes, I scratched my nose and realized my nails smelled so bad (like a*s) and I made a face. And he laughed and told me the product he just used smells like a*s. He then asked me and I quote, “you thought it was your a*s juices on your nails, ewww! “Since I just came from the bathroom, the topic made me so uncomfortable and he wasn’t quiet, I’m sure everyone else could hear him.
