Raúl was a stajanovist, he gave the life in every game, every play. He ran and ran, fighting every ball, didn't matter the time or the score.
When he was a teenager, his first year with the professionals, Pancho Puskas told him: "boy, if you continues running like that, your career will be short". When Raúl came to 28/29 years, he looked done. No more speed, no more dribling. Puskas was right. But Raúl too. He was a gladiator, not an office worker.

Raúl fue un delantero como lo tenía que ser, tener el balón y anotar. En el vídeo es claro, balón que tenía en su pies, balón que entraba a la portería. No hacia tonterías, no golpeaba al balón a lo tonto, tenía visión, y sabía a dónde patear el balon. En su etapa final si bajo, pero siempre fue RAÚL!! Por eso lo reconozco como gran delantero, y me daba mucho gusto cada que anotaba. Un gran delantero. Ahora mucho delanteros ni saben que hacer con el balón, y según son grandes, jaja. Raúl era un verdadero delantero.

He was never the same player after he got appendicitis in 2003. But he did have a late resurgence at schalke and his final season at Real. I think his problem was he achieved so much success at a young age at club level. So he burnt out too when he got older. Very intelligent player

I cannot think of many players, no matter how great they are/were that can come close to his scoring skills.
He was so successful, a real danger, he would take advantage of any situation, he would create the goal even in most difficult situations.
