Make sure to keep your heart rate under control! If somewhere along the line, don't be afraid to tell yourself, "OK, enough is enough! Rest up, wait a while & start over at another time. Push yourself a little , but please know when to say, "ok Chris, enough is enough! I'm taking a rest just for now!" And don't feel bad for taking a break. Good job, Chris! 💜

Progress lies in the recovery. Take restdays to prevent injury!
Try to push yourself a little bit farther every run! If you are stuck at a certain distance, try throwing some sprints at the end of your run. (Lastly, just upping the pace of whatever you’re able to do is a good way to see gains..) Hope that makes sense!!
I used to run a 5K every day. Never tried a half marathon or a marathon. This is inspiring bro let us know how it goes!! Shoutout to grandma 👵 ❤❤❤❤
Take rest days… buy quality shoes… hydrate…. Pay close attention to your body, being sore is one thing but there are injuries associated with running that you must monitor… God bless you!

I'm 68 and am training for my 10th half marathon. Pacing is key. Don't go out too fast. It's easy to get caught up in the initial frenzy. Make sure you hydrate frequently and carb up as needed. Good luck Chris!

Tip: It's a marathon, not a race. Go at your pace, not everyone else's. Remember to stretch and hydrate.

Chris, I admire you for everything you do. When I was in college, I was a runner. Make sure you are hydrated--that's important. Bulk up on carbs the night before and have a small carbohydrate breakfast with a protein in the morning--maybe a small bowl of oatmeal with nuts, seeds and some fresh fruit. Get plenty of sleep the night before. And my running coach always told me to remember to breathe through my nose, not through my mouth. I have sinus problems, so I had a tendency to breathe through my mouth which can cause you to become winded. In through the nose, out through the mouth. I'm right there with you in spirit, cheering you on!
You can do it I’m 62 and I have done many many races, 5K 10K half marathons now my kids run races with me. They’re about your age and the grandkids are into it as well. Which half marathon are you running? I’m running one on February 3 also in St. George Utah.
I love that Grandma was snacking on her goldfish (I think it was gf). Bravo for taking up running and caring for yourself. It helps you AND grandma for you to be active.

What’s interesting is that my doctor actually told me not to be self conscious or discouraged when working out at the gym. Lots of body builders can lift and bench hundreds of weights but can’t run a mile. Ever since then I just do my cardio and lift light weights.
A Half Marathon is good cause you're just starting. It's good to do new things so you don't get bored and overwhelmed with your Caregiving duties. You're a smart kid

You will have sooo much fun. Just be easy with yourself. Your training of increasing by 10% each week is sound, but one word of caution, when you start feeling really good and invincible, that is when you are tempted to put on more miles and speed up. Stay the course so that you don't get injured. If there are groups to run with. then run with them. You will be awesome.

On another note. It’s great that you’re starting with a half marathon. You can gauge where you are and what you need to improve on for the full marathon, without getting overwhelmed and burned out. Good luck!
This is awesome. Do your long easy paced runs on the weekend. Incorporate shorter runs with intervals alternating max pace / active recovery. Plenty of great example training plans online. I started just like you and became a running addict and raced for years. Sprint hills!! You got this.

Running my first half marathon next saturday and i think ur on the right track!! i didn't start training seriously until september but running 5ks, doing speed runs, incline runs, and long distance are the way to go! super important to build up ur endurance at long miles. i wish u luck!

After I lost half of my body weight (117lb) I signed up for and did four 5K jogs. I couldnt run as I have bad knees and hadnt jogged in many years. I wasnt sure if I would make it, but knew I wanted to do it to show my appreciation for being able to try. The first one was tough, and a fellow runner actually picked me up after I fell about 100ft from the finish line, and helped me, arm in arm, cross that finish line. I learned that you dont do things because you know you can, you do them because you can always try and that is the success.
Right on track with your schedule. I have done five (started at the age of 46) my only advice is it’s really not as physical as it’s mental. You can do it! A great goal! ❤🎉. Think of Grandma waiting for you at the finish line!

It's not about the speed, it's about finishing. Pace yourself. You can run-walk so it becomes HIIT- high intensity intermittent training. God bless your training

There are many training schedules for training.
And above all stretch thoroughly every evening to help recovery during sleep. An extended 10 minutes stretching, not the quick thing after running...
Play music, listen to a podcast, all good to get you going on your run
