I was my grandmother's caretaker until a couple years ago when she passed in her sleep, exactly as she always told me she wanted to. Every night before she went to bed, she would look at my daughter, grab my hand tightly, and say, "we have such a good life. I'm so happy with you." It really feels like the grief never ever ends.

That is why this is still so difficult, why we miss her so much, why there is this hole we can't fill. It's proof of the incredible gift we had. We would roll down the windows in my van and turn up the music--we went everywhere together and did everything as a trio from the time my daughter was born. I remember this one time, it was summer and we had the windows down--by request I had turned up the volume on "Party Rock". I was at a red light when I started hearing this car next to me tap its horn, so of course I checked the light but it was still red. So I look at the guy and he mimes applause, then swoops his finger around in a circle pointing at all the other cars and mimes applause again, laughing like crazy the entire time. So I look around, and everyone who could see our vehicle was red-faced laughing, waving out their windows, and applauding. It's a four lane (each way) stop, so it was a good number of people. Assuming that I alone was not the cause of their glee, I turn and look in the back--Grammy always rode with her little sweetie, you know--and see the greatest sight on earth. My 3½yo is in her carseat, heart shaped sunglasses on, dancing her heart out with her arms in the air. So was my then 93yo grandmother, fresh from the hairdresser, omnipresent pearls and all. My daughter had shown her how to "raise the roof"--it was more like "installing the crown molding"--but Gram was having a BLAST. My daughter must have known they were attracting an audience, but my grandmother had no clue. I started cracking up, so I pointed out what was happening to my grandmother, who looked, shrugged, and kept dancing. Even as she failed and became housebound, we still loved being together. She would read to my daughter and they would watch shows or draw together. I've saved some of their art projects, you can see Gram's fingerprints in the paint on a couple of them. She left her fingerprints in a lot of places. 💔
My day so far has been…challenging to say the least. But this video broke through the dark cloud in my mind and made me smile sooooo hard. I miss my grandma. Dear God above, bless her.
My heart skipped a beat when your grandmother smiled and closed her eyes like that. My maternal grandma used to do that too and it reminded me so much of her💔 Both my grandmas passed away in 2011 and I miss them everyday.

I was in a rough part of my life when she was visiting the U.S and I spent all day in my room. I regret never having those moments to eat with her now that she’s gone.
