The reason why EJ 200 wasn't chosen was because it is made by a consortium of aero-engine manufacturers. This makes licensing very difficult because you have to sign agreements with several companies, and not being able to sign with any one member of the EJ 200 will scupper the agreement.

Ej200 is a group of many companies .
      It's good we haven't selected Ej 200 .
      You can know why.
We are co producing a new engine on the basis of GE 414 .
      Or something like that.
India must fight for ipr and for export.
But the point is j20 engine is + 2.5 mac
      whereas 414 is 2.0 mac.
      Laserpod needs 3.0 mac .
India should also make deal with Rr,
A completely air dominance jet with 25 a2a Astra 3.

Dircm are already in the wish list of the f5 standard. Offensive laser requires way to much power.
Hypersonic weapons are not magic, just like stealth, whats the volume, the weight, the flight profile, the sensor capacity at those speed, can you maintain communication with the plasma being created, are you low enough to actually surprise the enemy or are you so high that you give away your position earlier then a subsonic missile. Are trading speed for range, what is the drag of low level atmosphere on your missile at such speed.
France was the first to demonstrate air breathing engine hypersonic engines in 1962. They know the issues very well and are not compromising or taking shortcuts like the chinese and even the russians.

The problem ADA was not choosing an engine only for the aircraft but a tach. for future development of own engine, exports right, IPR etc. So cost should not have been considered a biggger factor when they were trying to hit too many birds with one shot. Strategic requirements and future should have been considered first priority. I guess the priorities are misplaced and thats why we see such flip flops even after so lengthy negotiations. All the parameters for selection as such should have been made clear to all the participants beforehand.

Simple, for single engine Tejas we needed higher thrust and GE engine have higher thrust compared to EJ. Second is future proofing. We also need engine for 5th gen AMCA. GE has engines whereas RR dont have one. Also GE engines are highly reliable like EJ if not better.

TEDBF - the most useless project ever. Neither ADA nor Navy has been able to explain why no Naval AMCA has been tried, and why a 4.5 gen fighter is being developed to enter service in the 2030s...

    • @jonswap9097

Ask the Indian Navy and the government rubber stamp babus that. There are reasons why stealth aircraft were deployed late in the US Navy - could be damage to stealth coatings by sea spray, or the difficulty of concealing ship mounted radars at sea due the how easily surface ships are detected or the lower risk of air combat at sea for ships located a long way out at sea compared with air force planes etc. However there is no reason I can see why a largely common airframe and systems to the AMCA should not be used for the TEDBF instead of the completely different TEDBF design that has been proposed. It seems that the TEDBF team is just doing their own thing just to create their own fiefdom.

@@jonswap9097 you answered the very relevant point you raised yourself. Though the F35 does serve aboard carriers, even if it lands vertically which may reduce damage. Fact is, commonality of design, and economies of scale should have scored over, especially as the TEDBF is NOT a stealth platform.
