    This is the best series on personal style I've ever watched! I have a hard time still knowing which is my primary personal style because I have elements of minimal, androgynous, sophisticated, streetwear, bohemian in my wardrobe, along with a very casual lifestyle that doesn't support wearing classic sophisticated style. It's that mixing and balance that really clicks for me, so that I can avoid looking like a pinterest stereotype and just "average" despite putting effort into my outfits.

    Skirts and dresses all the way! Jeans are the most uncomfortable garments ever made, but are so chic and flattering. I will suffer them for only short periods.

    Great breakdown of style moods!!! I lean mostly towards a chic style mood; however, I often reflect casual, edgy, and sexy vibes as well. I absolutely love playing with fashion and at the age of 69, I feel like I am just on the cusp of this fun journey. I love to throw on a fitted blazer, skinny jeans with a tube top, tank, or cami, and add a statement accessory piece to bring in that “Wow” feature! I also love the extreme comfort of black leggings, a black tube top, a belt, and a white oversized button shirt as my outerwear. The choice of footwear definitely takes the simplicity of these pieces to a whole new level, whether it’s my go to black ballet flats, sassy heels (at 4’10”, I love that little extra height!), white canvas sneakers, or edgy Doc Martens. Choosing the right bag for the occasion (basic leather bag, summery straw bag, or a chic simple clutch) will more completely define my style mood. This is one of my favorite outfits as I can easily transition a very casual outfit for the day at the mall, into a sophisticated and upscale look for dinner, by switching out my flats or sneakers for a pair of heels, and cinching my oversized white shirt with a wide belt. I would probably switch out my silver jewelry for gold tones to take it to the next level and complete an overall classic look.

    I was waiting for this video, thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this ! I think the distinction you make between mood and style is already a response in itself to the question I was asking myself about finding balance. Personal style is quite permanent whereas the mood adds a certain spice or twist to it. I’m more on the chic - sexy side of the spectrum (pencil skirts are my go to) when it comes to my personal style, but I can tone it down with some classic or edgy pieces depending on my mood. What puts everything together is the overall feeling that the outfit portrays. Thank you again !

    • @EmilyWheatley
      @EmilyWheatley  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes exactly Faz. The type is permanent and the mood is interchangeable. I'm glad that this is answering your question. I'll dive deeper into the styling aspects in the next video. Thank you Faz!

You clearly have no desire to limit anyone’s personal style, but instead to help people express themselves, and tell the world who they are with design and fashion. This is a really helpful video. I've never given too much thought to what I would call me style but after seeing this I would say it's Sexy Edgy to Sexy Chic depending on my mood but on occasion I think an element of every style creeps into my outfits. I'm similar in size to you (except with a more hourglass shape) and even have a silver version of your haircut (and another 25 years to my age) so I'm finding your videos really inspiring. I tend not to wear pants very often (other than jeans) but there are a few outfits here that inspire me to try some other styles. Those lovely high waisted, skinny tweed pants with heels is a style I think I will have a go at - break out of my comfort zone of wearing dresses and skirts. Thank you so much for the inspiration, I'm really glad I found you!

    Hi Emily...really enjoyed this video and love how you are delivering in piecemeal manner so as not to overload and confuse your audience.
    One thing for me that is so important in setting the mood of how I dress is my hair and hairstyle. Styling my hair (up or down, natural or blow-dried) will really determine my mood in dressing. For example if I have washed my hair and just styled it, I will up my game and be a bit more experimental because I'm feeling more confident but if it's not a hair wash day and my hair is not behaving, I'll play it right down and stay conservative/casual because I don't want to draw attention to myself. If I'm going out and applying extra makeup then I can definitely push the sexy vibe again because my confidence level is up.
    I also find myself moderating my mood according to where I'm going or who I'm meeting. eg Friend's wedding/party...I can up the ante but for a colleague's wedding, I tend again to stay conservative....something about how I perceive my level of acceptance within that group. This is long and rambling but I hope it makes sense. There are so many factors in what determines my dressing mood on any given day! But I am enjoying learning about the variations from you and the possibilities I haven't considered.
    I lean towards casual and classic, part androgynous part sexy, sometimes conservative, rarely edgy and definitely very little boho. Boho fights or clashes with my features. I love it but it is def not a look I can pull off! If I have a slightly boho top or cami then it's paired with jeans, sneakers and a camo jacket or navy ankle grazing trousers, heels or sneakers and a navy striped blazer. I do mix a lot of feminine with masculine vibes. Love that most of all.

    Great style videos! Really hoping to stop the confusion in my wardrobe. I love a lot of my clothes but its not a cohesive wardrobe, too many pieces to the puzzle. I've stopped buying things just because I love them and started really analyzing what each item will bring and how it will work with as much of my wardrobe as possible. But I've really got to identify what does not work and weed it out, whilst keeping all personalities happy. Trying to refine it before it drives me insane. These videos are really helping, thankyou.

    Hi Emily, Your channel popped up on my feed (probably because I like slow fashion and have had a capsule-type wardrobe for a few years now). I like your content and subscribed. I’ve noticed that the individual pieces in most closets are similar across the board and the style type comes from how you put them together. For example, button down shirt could fit classic, preppy, edgy, etc. Or all black & black boots: goth with black lip & nails with a black ribbon or lace tied around your neck; edgy with red lip, biker jacket & chain necklace. I’d love to see your take on this, selecting pieces from your closet and styling them into different style types. What do you think?

    • @edennis3202
      @edennis3202 Před 3 lety +1

      She seems to use the word mood in much the same way as some stylists use the term essence. Think "aura," perhaps, in a general way. For example, I have a Soft Dramatic face and body type and a Noble essence. That means that very frilly pieces come across as out of sync, like a classical string quartet playing a polka. Some women are bubbly, playful; some women are soft and romantic, etc. Almost nobody is the same all of the time; you can be bubbly in the morning, sporty in the afternoon, and romantic in the evening, but you have a basic essence that will come through or influence your look no matter what your current emotions might be.

    My "origin style" story is preppy, but the kelly green corduroy trousers, fortunately, were short-lived. (This is decades ago when preppy for girls meant dress like preppy boys, which we did but for the clogs, Fair Isles, Frye boots, and occasional kilt.) Now my style is heavily influenced by three adult daughters who can carry off slouchy bottoms and cute/sexy tops, which I cannot. Still, my "uniform" is not so different from theirs as it leans heavily jeans, t-shirts, and comfy sweaters. So... androgynous, I suppose? I also love wide-leg trousers and belts, and I've added blazers recently, all of which help to elevate without too much effort. Anyway, I'm not needing to define my style so much as know that I can enter my closet and never feel like, as you so neatly documented recently, I have nothing to wear. I haven't felt that way in a long time, and it's a worthwhile goal, imho. Meanwhile, you can't completely take the preppy out of the girl-love my laceless brogues and Dansko clogs. (Not a kilt or Fair Isle sweater in sight, however!) Long answer. Sorry! Meanwhile, Emily, thank you for your channel. I just stumbled on it this weekend and already love it so much. Good luck!

    Can you explain a bit more about the nuanced difference between classic and conservative moods? They seemed to overlap a lot conceptually from the video explanation. My mind wants to draw the distinction that conservative is more "safe/under the radar/muted" while classic is more along the lines of "the stereotype/textbook" (for lack of better words).
    Like, how would a conservative goth look be different from a classic goth look? Hope my question makes sense!

    I appreciate your content and comments here, but I must know about the base layer under your shirt. Is it a mock neck tee? Please tell me all about it.

      Thank you! There is a light blue available, which is the only “color” that I wear. Perfect.

    The hashtag for "androgynous" is spelled wrong. The title says "6..." but then there are 4 listed (confusing). The Style Moods list the 6, but only 2 are in the title and the other 2 in the title (Minimalist, Streetwear) are not listed in the Moods (more confusion). o_0?

    I’m sorry, but I don’t find your style/mood/personality distinctions useful. It seems vague, unnecessarily complicated and will probably only confuse people who feel that they don’t know their style.
