    At 3:13 you missed moment 2 of hand hygiene. You should perform hand hygiene action after touching packaging before donning sterile gloves. Also this procedure might be better attended by 2 people to improve the non touch technique and sterility of the procedure. Thanks for the education on the procedure though. Good for use in home care where i cant get education on this stuff.

    As someone who has a trach and has been doing all the cleaning/caring of it for a long time, I learned quite a lot. For example, I actually had no idea what the small pipe cleaners were for. I just let them air dry. I rotate between 3 inner cannulas so that's never presented a problem. Also, it never occurred to me that I could use those tweezers to get the split sponge dressings on. That'll save me a lot of effort going forward. Granted, I also don't bother with maintaining a sterile field in my own bathroom either, opting for a clean(-ish) field instead. Still, learned a lot! :)

      @jsmith6994 Před 2 lety

      Yes me too! I never thought of putting the new trach tie on and then moving the old one. Who would have ever thought! Also, I never knew what the tweezers were for in the trach kit.

    Why dont you go until resistance is met? I dont see any harm in a little poke...surgeons do far worse from what ive seen? Have there been doccumented cases of people doing harm during teach care by gently meeting resistance and backing out a few mm and then suctioning?? Generally the real icky stuff tends to be deeper anyway. How do you get that icky stuff if you only go the distance of the trache? Just questions😊 great video👍👍 cheers!

    • @ericgriffin9909
      @ericgriffin9909 Před 5 lety +5

      Nurses are not surgeons and so it is not in our scope of practice to insert the suction until we meet resistance. A little poke can cause lots of damage and nurses are not trained to repair damage as surgeons are. Protect your licence and do only what is within your scope of practice. Make your passes with suction and if there is still deeper secretions instruct the patient to cough. Cilia will also help move the secretions out of the airway in order to suction them out. Suctioning rarely removes all secretions but does a good job at removing most.

    • @ricardopalma3714

      If you measure your suction tube to the type of tube you are cleaning it can prevent you from going to far and helps insure you get far enough. I clean my own. I have found with my tube type it's 10mm on the suction tube and put my finger on that number all the time. Helps for me. 😊

    okay, I am looking for emergency surgery procedures for someone I care about who has suffered an air blockage due to their throat receiving a blow causing swelling and blocking off their air ways, both nasal and mouth. I use a ball point pen, ie. Biro, which, when stripped, is hollow all the way through. These where made this way for children so that if swallowed they would not impair their breathing on account of the pen being open at both ends instead closed at the top.
