    👍👍 on the video DanC!
Been waiting for this video! Love it! I am a firm believer in the notion that the most important thing when it comes to beard products is the quality of ingredients, benefits for the beard and skin, and the feel in beard! Scent profiles are awesome. It gives companies the ability to separate themselves, and/or find their niche in the community! But.... I don’t care how amazing the scent is... if it isn’t good for the beard, or doesn’t feel good in the beard... I’m not using it!
These companies you talked about, are all amazing. Have all of them. I definitely agree on the fact that they are all amazing companies and they make phenomenal products!
Finding out what your favorite carrier oils are, or what the best carrier oils are for your beard is really important! It comes from trying different products and really paying attention to how you are reacting from the products. One thing a newer Beardsman can do, is to do the research. Google the ingredients and see their benefits. You can even go on amazon and get a bunch of individual carrier oils and test them out on the beard! See how they feel! Once you figure out what your favorite carrier oils are... you will find the best products for you.
I love Octane, will get anything that company makes. Oil is phenomenal, and the butter..... one of the best!
Heroes and Legends is one of my favorites as well. That platinum oil is insane. Feel in beard out of this world. Love the scents, awesome company!
Lux has the most complex scents in the game, has an awesome carrier oil blend, and is just simply one of the best. I need every Lux product.
Bearded Bastard has top notch ingredients, unique scents, a thicker oil, it styles well and I love their oils. Waiting for their tangerine Dream to drop!
Detroit Grooming is legit. I have all their oils and butters, and both are 🔥. That Black Scent Profile is one of my favorites!
ManBeardCo. is sooo good. I love Aloe.. it’s a very unique oil both in feel and in look. It gives you a really light and airy feeling when you use the oil. Scent profiles are awesome. Can’t go wrong. Can’t wait for them to drop a butter!
Uncle Donnie’s just flat out does it right. Oil is great, Butter is one of the best.. can’t go wrong. I just got their CoWash and it’s great as well! Vanilla Orchard, Mornin Joe, and Original... oh boy. Can’t wait for the other scents to be available again!
Primal Origins is one of my go to oils. It’s incredible. I agree, it doesn’t absorb as fast... but the feel in beard is insane. Very nice and subtle scent profiles, carrier oils are super unique and have amazing benefits. The focus of his products is the health of your beard, and I love it. I love Primal Origins... and will get anything he makes. I already have it all 😂.
Husky Beard Co. just shocked the hell out of me. One of the very best companies out there. Feel in beard is 🔥. Scents are 🔥. Just amazing. Oils and Butters are one of my favorites. Bravo Husky... Bravo.
Seven Potions, Citrus Tonic... is legit. I use the Wash and the Oil... and you can’t go wrong.
This list is on point. I love all of these companies and agree 100% in their quality, their feel in beard, and I use their products very, very often!
When I look into new companies, I’m looking at their ingredients, then their scent profiles, then everything else. I know for me personally... My beard and skin love Fractionated Coconut, Aloe, Sweet Almond, Burdock Root, and Jojoba. So I always look to see if I see any of my favorites in the products. I’m at a point where I can look at the ingredients and be able to pretty much tell if it’s something I’ll like or not. Also, I’m always down to try something new. If the company has a new and unique carrier blend that I haven’t seen before etc. I’m also paying more attention to the owners and companies themselves. For me, Scent Profiles comes last, right before branding, logos, bottles etc...
I want the best products for me. The products that will give my beard the best nourishment, conditioning, hydration, feel etc... Great Video DanC!
There are GREAT companies that weren’t mentioned today, and that doesn’t mean their products don’t feel great in beard. Everyone beard is different. Everyone’s going to have preferences. And that’s ok. It’s nothing to get upset about. DanC has tried more products than 99.99% of the bearded community. He has his favorite carriers, and he knows what works best for him. If you don’t see your favorite company on here, it doesn’t mean anything other than that you’re beard may be a little different, may react a little different. It’s all good!
This video was probably so hard to make. A lot of people wouldn’t make a video like this because of not wanting to hurt feelings, or make things awkward with owners. Mad props my Teach!

I haven't tried a lot of beard products yet, still kind of new to it all. The best I've used so far for me is Grave Before Shave. I got the sampler pack, and fell in love! Beard feels soft all day long, doesn't get tangled up even with using a mask, and the smells are amazing

First off, great video with such a thorough focus on the unique carrier oils of each brand and I'm impressed at just how many brands you've tried. I did some research when I began my beard journey 1-2 years ago and discovered Honest Amish - I'm in Melbourne Australia and needed to get good oils and balms shipped to me, as we don't really have that many companies in Australia that specialise in beard products like the US. Honest Amish use 100% natural, organic and sustainable ingredients and use high quality ingredients. I think what appealed to me was their philosophy and product knowledge/research. For me, quality ingredients is a top priority, followed by scent and availability. Honest Amish pride themselves on not using man-made chemicals, fragrances, petroleum by-products, or man-made preservatives and I've been pleased by the scent of their products, as I find I'm fussy with scents and if I don't quite like it I end up loathing it after some time. But, that been said, some scents grow on you too. I've found the Honest Amish Pure Oil to be very neutral with scent and it feels really nice on my skin and conditions my beard well for most of the day. The Classic Oil has a pleasant scent that wears off and isn't too strong at all, and the oil works as well as the Pure, with the ingredients AVOCADO OIL, VIRGIN PUMPKIN SEED OIL, SWEET ALMOND OIL, APRICOT KERNEL OIL, GOLDEN JOJOBA OIL, VIRGIN ARGAN OIL, KUKUI OIL. The Premium oil has a sweet peppery/woodsy scent and I think is slightly thicker than the Classic yet easy to apply, and I've found the oil to really last the entire day, and my beard looks really great with this oil - It's like you can notice you've used a premium quality oil. The ingredients are BLACK CUMIN OIL, VIRGIN AVOCADO OIL, GOLDEN JOJOBA OIL, VIRGIN BOABAB OIL, ROSE HIP OIL, MORINGA OIL, VIRGIN ARGAN OIL, APRICOT KERNEL OIL, VIRGIN SEABUCKTHORN OIL, VIRGIN PUMPKIN SEED OIL. I will say that in researching oils I came across a concept called comedogenic rating: This is essentially a rating to indicate how likely the oil is to clog your pores. Obviously, you don't want to clog your pores if you are prone to pimples/breakouts etc. The lower the rating, the less likely it is to clog your pores. Now Argan oil is apparently a 0 on the comedogenic rating scale and is a great carrier oil. Sweet almond oil and Apricot Kernel oil are a 2, which is quite low too, just for example. You can read up on the qualities of each oil, and often beard companies will expertly select the oils to go in their products in order to maximise the benefits for your beard and skin. See www.holistichealthherbalist.com/complete-list-of-comedogenic-oils/ for more info on many other oils just as an example of one resource that talks about oils (there will be lots of other great resources too). I hope this info helps!

Great rundown, Dan! I have products from almost all of these companies, and this list is on point! Feel in beard and styling ability should be the most important thing to look for. Each of these companies make my beard feel well hydrated through the day, and allow me to style it well and keep it looking good all day. I don’t want anything that is going to leave me feeling dry at the end of the day or greasy throughout the day. Each of these companies, and many others out there have worked hard to make such products. I think it does take some trial and error; what works for me and my skin and hair may not work for someone else. Each of us has to learn which carriers are the best for us. That doesn’t mean we need to trash companies that products don’t work as well for us, because it may be perfect for someone else. Pass that product on to another bearded guy!

Awesome list! I have tried almost all of the mentioned company in this list and agree with you 100%. What's great for me is from what I've noticed, your favorite carrier oils that work best for you are the same for me. I'm always certain that if you say it's an amazing feel in beard and I need to try it...I will have that same conclusion when I eventually do try that product. All of the companies mentioned in the list are top notch and have brought their A game when it comes to feel in beard. Out of the many oils I have I will purposely pick ones that will make my beard feel amazing if I've had a bad beard day the day before or if I'm going to be working outside that day I will choose one that will keep my skin and beard nourished through the sun and heat.

Dan, when I found your channel I loved your engaging and positive presentation, but I thought, all these beard products, is there a need for all these? The mustache care I did never led me in that direction before. Now I understand that the health of my mustache is primary in getting it to look good and to style well. Great outline of these products. The focus on how they feel is essential. You gave me what I needed to decide which one I'd try first. As always, what you do is great! Take care

Great video! I would like to see one that goes over the best in beard feel for an oil and balm combo by brand (so no mixing and matching).
Personally, I find Gladiator to be one of the best oil and Balm combos. 9+ hours can go by and my beard is still ultra soft.
The Beard Baron also is a great oil and Balm combo. Plus they have a ton of unique scents that are quite different, especially when he releases a private stock (loving the Linakai scent right now for summer).
The last one I feel worth mentioning is Live Bearded. For some reason, their oil and butter combo (yes I know it's not a balm, but it's all they have) just really jives with my beard. Threw in The Executive (great scent if you haven't tried it yet. I think you'll dig it since you're a fan of vanilla) 8am and went to a rooftop cookout until 11pm and beard still felt great.
Really interested in Heroes and Legends + Husky, so I'll have to check those out soon!
Oh, honorable mention goes to Johnny Slick's. They have a great oil with some crazy unique scents. Highly recommend reviewing them since like no one on CZcams has really done a review of his stuff yet. Would love to hear your take on that oil.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Essential topic -- perhaps slightly less important than what it does for beard -- and clear structure: What it is, why it is on the list, and its outstanding characteristic. With helpful tidbits sprinkled in -- best oils, absorption time, viscosity, purpose. Thank you for asking what I look for in a beard oil; I'll have to think about that more (without, I hope, over-thinking). I've been preferring thinner oils but will consider thicker oils for my white/gray/silver beard. You mentioned olive oil. Aleph Male contains olive and almond oils.

Man Beard - Renaissance Man is my all time favorite in beard feel and scent of any company out their. It's a must have for me. I love the scent so much I skimp on in beard feel with the Texas Ranger from AlwaysBeardiful as it smells 98% the same at so much cheaper. I have too many Beard Octane (oil, balm, butter, soap) ones and swear by Detroit Grooming Black in oil and Butter. My other best feel in beard for me are: Beard Justice (My wife has claimed Birthday Suit Butter for herself and using it as a skin conditioner - she thinks it's the greatest stuff ever invented), Honest Amish Oil and Balm - I just have a hard time with the scent, but since it works so well I overlook the scent. I love Chesapeake Darkness oil and balm as it's my 2nd favorite for in beard feel and I can smell it 8 hours after putting it in.

I haven't gotten to the point where I'm tracking ingredients just yet, but I have passed up companies that seemed like their blend was too "plain" or normal. If a blend is argan, jojoba and maybe one other oil I tend to stay away because I don't think my beard likes the basics too much.
Beard Octane is definitely my favorite feel in beard, so I think coconut oil is my go to so far. Lux makes my beard so incredibly soft it's crazy, but that's usually oil and balm. I am starting to pay more attention to ingredients as I go.

    I have a couple questions.
I have the man beard oil but the one that came in the set, not the aloe. Is that just as good as the aloe?
Also, I feel like I’m using up a lot of oil because the drop in palm method doesn’t work. I have to put the tube and drop an exorbitant amount of oil right into the roots. It seems like I need A LOT of oil. Is this normal?
Also, is beard wash and conditioner needed, or can I use standard shampoo?

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Před rokem +1

      Hey!
      1) I have not tried that
      2) depends on how long the beard is and how dry your skin is. Generally speaking a full dropper is used for a beard 6 inches or longer
      3) beard wash, yes absolutely. Beard conditioner is not needed, but a nice add on

@@DanCBearded Thanks for your input man.
My girlfriend bought me the whole man beard kit months ago, but I shaved. However, I’m growing now again before I start my senior year of college; I’ve used up almost everything ever since I started growing again in July (oil, shampoo, conditioner). I think I’m just overusing the products, but my skin demands it.
I have really dry skin in my chin and mustache area. Which one oil is the *absolute best* for dry, sensitive skin?
I’m super hygienic and particular, and combining that with dry acne prone skin and a rather thick beard, I yearn for the best products.
In general I find myself burning through beard oil really fast due to my own needs.
