Sweden, Sweden, Sweden, what talents you create! What is it with this little country in the North? Answer: one of their treasures is / has been that they have a natural aptitude for singing and for music in general. It is in their genes. See for example "allsång på Skansen", Stockholm, where they meet and sing together once a week in the summertime. And their people's soul goes very, very deep. ABBA was one of the very first artists to be known outside of Scandinavia. A big hug from Norway, neighbour of Sweden.

The song was recorded in June 1980, right before the official divorce between Agnetha Fältskog (the lead singer of this song) and Björn Ulvaeus (the man next to her playing the guitar). They also had two children (2 and 7 years old at the time) and still cared for them together even after the divorce.
Additonally, Björn was the lyricist of the band and he wrote the lyrics for this song as well. The song itself had been inspired by their own divorce but, as they both confirmed in interviews later on, it was not exactly their own story. In their case, they mentioned, there hadn't been a winner.
Although the song was basically fiction (as Björn put it), in this video, we see and hear a woman who sings a divorce song (even if it is not exactly her story) with lyrics written by the man from whom she was divorcing at that time. Agnetha described singing this song as moving and for Björn it was cleansing (as he described it) to hear her singing it.
Agnetha is always an outstanding storyteller but her real personal feelings elevate this song to a completely different level. And she always stays in tune regardless of the emotion she expresses. So, "The Winner Takes It All" may well be the most melodious truckload of divorce emotions which has been recorded so far.

Hello again, and congratulations to your second reaction to ABBA songs
remember that ABBA was a pop group from Sweden that leads specialy in Europe and several countries of all continents between 1974/1982, They have more than 20 worldwide hits like
Waterloo; Mamma Mía; Fernando; Dancing Queen; Knowing me knowing you; The name of the game; Take a chance on me; Gimme gimme gimme; Chiquitita; Super Trouper
ABBA it's acronim with first letter of their first names, and two couples:
    A Agnetha (blonde singer) &
    B Björn (guitarist songwriter);
    B Benny (pianist songwriter) &
    A Anni Frida (brunette singer)
"The winner takes it all" (1980)
is Their most saddest song, it's a heartbroken song, although at the same time it is a beauty of music and song, with a raw but excellent lyrics, it's a Masterpiece
the blonde singer Agnetha has said in other interviews that She likes to sing melancholic or sad songs, because She can act and interpret the feeling of the lyrics.
that's what She does here, in this song; the lyrics are not about the reality of Her marriage and divorce with guitarist Björn (although it can include part and was inspired by), She acts interprets and sings, it is Flawless Unmatched and Unforgettable
Agnetha and Björn separate at the end of 1978 with two small children; the legal divorce occurs in the middle of 1980, a year and a half later; and that's when Björn writes the lyrics, on a melody that the pianist Benny had already elaborated, and Björn himself makes a demo with his voice
"The winner takes it all" was voted the best ABBA song by British fans between Their 25 singles edit in UK
it is also the favorite song of both: Agnetha and Björn
For a next reaction I suggest their First worldwide hit:
    "Waterloo" (1974)
    but Not the Official Video
(it's good and now in 4K Quality)
it's better to see and react the live perfomance at the famous Eurovisión Song Contest, when ABBA win with these iconic song and begin your worldwide career:

    See you in next video
