Thanks for those tips. I'm unlikely to run at a convention, but have pitched and run games at my local TTRPG club and that knowledge of the game, enthusiasm for the story and effort to up production values have served me well there too.
I'd also like to thank you for the time you take making those "run like a pro" videos and handouts for your favourites. They are both awesome resources.
PS: Nice to see a Broken Compass cheat sheet pop up. :) It's the game I own everything for but haven't yet run, though I'd love to.

Running at clubs is probably just as challenging as conventions. At least at a con, you probably won't see those players ever again! But glad you are enjoying the videos!

I've only played at one convention and had 2 good experiences but one memorably terrible one.
In that game the GM came with about 40 pre-generated PCs to choose from. Too many! It was a cyberpunk adventure so I went with a simple tank type character. Fighting, shooting, not much rust to worry about. The original ear that the characters were all totally random, so the 2 fighter types in the group ended up with worse fighting skills than the corporate and the hacker. What's more is they came with only 1 weapon between them. While the hacker was loaded with the most exclusive weapons. We have the most of it and the adventure was interesting. But then it became clear that the hacker was a munchkin gamer. He derailed everything to get his way and tried to be the hero of every scene. In the end we failed the mission because of him and it got really testy between some of the players as he then carried on about how he was the best character in the game and killed more people than everyone else... It was laughable in the end.

Wow.... that is actually one of the worst experiences I have heard! 40 characters! Yikes.....

A vivid proof, that doing too much prep is counterproductive...

I've never been to a convention. Thanks for this insight into how they work! I will totally apply these tips to my table games.
