🟢Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

The decadence of all captured in this tutorial, Sara, is so glorious. Thank you for taking the time to once again, produce such a work of art. And anytime we get to see Molly enjoying time with her mommy puts a smile on my face - and I'm sure everyone else's too! 😊
Kelli thank you so much, you're so sweet🥰
Thank you for watching💖 I really loved filming at the summer cottage, I hope you enjoy the video✨

Great job, perfecting your seaberry soap video, splendid job as always: now for this peculiar challenging question: since it’s officially Autumn and we are approaching the colder climate, have you thought about experimenting and perfecting an apple cider spice soap to bring some semblance of warmth to this season? 😇
@@tiamccarthy9942 Thank you Tia🤗 that's a wonderful idea but I think it will have to wait until next year!
Hi tellervo I have a question if we add fresh fruits in soap making will this start stinking??? And how to prevent it from bad smell and preserve it?
Another amazing video. This is just a masterpiece, it's like watching a movie.😍👏👏👏👏
Aww thank you so much🥰
It's even better than watching a movie! ❤
Finally a soap maker that doesn't talk! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️
By the way I haven't seen all your videos yet but do you have one specifically that says where you get your supplys? I'm not sure where you live but I live in the United States
Yes! Keep quiet😉😀 I love love this channel. I will be making my rendition of this incredible soap using dehydrated berries, leaves and oil. That is for next week when my ingredients finish arriving. Now I’m off to make my tamarillo/purple sea moss soap.🌺
Beautiful video...so relaxing ...thank you Sara for sharing, just a beautiful and natural soap and Molly 😍...who needs more ?
Aww thank you Isabelle🥰
This is such a lovely video.. and feels like it's one of the closest to your heart! Molly is precious as always.. love and hugs to your playful assistant :) The soap looks lovely ❣️
Thank you so much, you're right this is the closest to my heart, hugs❤️
A wonderful video, I didn't know you could collect Sea Buckthorn berries so easily, you are extremely lucky to have these in such a way you can simply walk out the door and pick them from your garden orchard! Beautiful soap bars with one of my favourite berries.
Thank you Tanya, I do feel blessed to have them💝
My grandparents made oil from it. It is healing i remember using it throughout my childhood
That's so cool, I'd really want to do that too😊
Got so happy to see a new video ! I am so in love with your soap making videos . & I love how you incorporate nature into the soaps
Thank you so much Bonnie🥰
Sara Thank you once again. You bring calm, beauty and a sense of peace with each video you produce. I love this soap I will have to research the sea buckthorn to see if it grows in Tasmania.
Your cottage looks ideal.
So glad to hear that🤗 They just might, thank you!
Beautiful video, so peaceful and relaxing. I Thank you. I just trimmed my tomato plants and was looking for a soap recipe to use the leaves.I didn't find anything ,but I did find you. : )
Hello Sara, this video is so good 💖 like all your videos. Love the cottage view 😍! The soap making and the milk music 🎶 is a visual treat. Thank you for sharing 😊❣️
Thank you so much Shanmuga, glad you liked it🥰
Gorgeous. How special to have a seabuckthorn tree, another nourishing soap
Thank you Kezza🤗
Another gem from your channel. Your command and mastery over using, accommodating natural ingredients in the soap is simply astonishing. But in this video, even the ambiance, the cottage and of course Molly's 🐶 pleasant presence is so soothing. No doubt the selection of ingredients and the recipe is impeccable but even the audio-visual presentation is outstanding. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, your wisdom and the beauty of your surroundings with us 🙏.
Can't thank you enough for your kind beautiful words💝💝
This video made me feel so calm and happy. I love your doggie! Thank you !!!
Yay thank you so much🤗
Wow, thanks to the cottage and your usual (great) video style the coziness level was 9000.
Thank you so much🥰🥰
Very nice, I love the color of the soap and I will make it, absolutely, Molly is a wonderfull dog 💕
Thank you🤗💝
Thanks for sharing this video, I enjoyed it very much.
I truly love your videos they are so relaxing. The cabin is beautiful and has a tranquil vibe. It made feel like I want to be there with you making soap.
Thank you Jess that's so nice to hear🤗
Bought your formulator book and it's been wonderful reading. I read so many soap making books and found yours the best. It tells about the fatty acid of oils and usage rate. I prefer to make my own recipe than take someone's if it's for business purposes. Also, your videos makes me feel calm and relaxing...
Thank you so much, I'm so thrilled to receive your wonderful feedback on the workbook!🤗
Such a beautiful soap, lovely color! Never heard of sea buckthorn before, looks so good :)
Thank you🤗
Beautiful video! You put so much thought into it! Love from Australia.

Wow, what a relaxing video and what a cute dog.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the beautifully detailed videos and recipes. Love all your video and recipes 😍 ❤️
Thank you so much💝
Cool video. I haven’t seen sea buckthorn bushes and berries like that up close and personal. I wasn’t aware you could use the berries themselves in soap either. Thanks for sharing! It was interesting and nice peaceful cottage!
Thank you!🤗
Tellervo you so nice. Thanks for this teaching.
🥰
Wow so beautiful color God bless you and super cozy video 🤩🤓🤓☕
Thank you Naty🥰🥰
Beautiful to watch thank you, and what a nice creamy soap, so interesting how the longer cure out stopped the bleed, noted!
Thank you🤗 Yes I found it interesting too!
Hi Sara. Love watching your video. So relaxing. Such a dream place you live❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Kiki💕
Your videos are therapeutic, thank you so much
So glad to hear that!
I googled until I found the exact glass bowl you use for your soaps and finally got to use it this evening for a simple batch of 100% coconut oil soap (20% SF) with black Brazilian clay! I used the double boiler type method that you use and I LOVED it! I think that will be my new way of melting all oils for soap from now on. I am not really a fan of the microwave so I'm glad to have tried your method and fallen in love with it! :)
Great to hear Heather, that sounds really good🤗🤗
Thank you so much for the grammar and the Celsius ❤
well now i must ad these trees to my ND farm. To eat and ad to my soaps thank you
Awesome😊
This video is so beautiful to watch! 😊

Sun videoita on aina niin rentouttava katsoa! Ja ihana mökkimaisema🧡
Voi kiitos, kiva kuulla🥰
It was really interesting... Can you tell exact ratio of oil to water
❤the ingredients & video 😊
Thank you🥰
My soap-making happy place 🧼

Beautiful and calming video with awesome teaching content! Do you have to add any sort of preservatives to the soap so that it doesn’t spoil from adding berries?
adding too much puree could cause mold and bacteria growth in the soap. A usage rate of about 1 ounce of puree per pound of oils in the soap recipe is considered a universally safe amount. The pH level of cold process soap does not allow for mold and bacteria to grow, as long as the soap is not diluted too much.
Thank you🤗 The pH should prevent spoilage! I've never used a preservative and so far no spoilage either.
A beautiful butterscotch looking batter. Yum I just looked at a map of where these grow as I live on Long Island NY. They don’t grow anywhere in the Americas. Not naturally anyway. I should plant some. 😬
Thank you Tracy! You should😊
Love your channel, and interested in soap making , I have a question ,- if I want to combine fresh Natural ingredients like ripe tamarind , etc..how many % should I add to the soap , either in water solution or after light trace?..Thank you?
Thank you so much! I usually make something like a 40% lye solution and then add an amount of fruit/vegetable puree at trace, that if taken into account in the lye solution would equal a 33% lye concentration. Hope this makes sense
Great
So nice
Pls upload coffee soap recipe n n coffee based shower gel n face wash, my request.
Tq
Thank you!
Hello Tellervo, can dried sea buckthorn berries be used instead of fresh ones? I am struggling to find them fresh where I live. Thank you in advance
Thank you so much for all the soap videos with recipe, I have been making my own soap for personal use and I love every moment of it. I have a question please can I use dry buckthorn seeds for this? and how would you recommend I use it. Thanks
So glad to hear🤗 I think I would recommend adding the seeds ground, for exfoliation!
Hi I have a question , I have problem to keep Fragence oil smell in cold process soap ,the smell disappear after second week rest ,
can you please guid me ?
Lovely, the best part was how the natural colour of the sea buckthorn could hold against the saponifica reaction.I had one query though why the 50% lye conc. Why so steep
Thank you! I used a steep discount so that I could add more puree. If you take the puree into account the lye concentration in the recipe would be 33%🙂
loved your video. why 50% lye solution?
Encantada !!
Thank you!💝
Is the sea buckhorn just a colourant then?
Wonderful video🥰🥰❤❤.
But i didn't inderstand 6 g citric acide / 1 % oil weight means????
Thank you, please check the description box🤗
I will buy the powder from the supermarket and incorporate it into the oil.
Awesome😊
How much is that soap? I want some
നല്ല ഭംഗിയുള്ള സ്ഥലം.. ❤❤❤
Thank you❤️
What is the shelf life of Cocoa butter and Shea butter after packaging is opened ?
It's usually stated on the packaging
Hi! why not add citric acid to the soap at the end for make pH more sour?
It doesn't work that way🙂
عزيزتى 👍🇸🇦هل يمكن تضيفى ترجمه
Please let me know what you put in this soap to make it lather. Thanks
The saponification process creates a soap which lathers naturally
Please how can I get the mold, end the ingredients to buy,?
The mold is linked in the description box. Ingredients can be found at soap making suppliers.
another excellent video, thanks very much.
off topic.
i've been making Sima since May. do you make it? i started with just lemons, and then began adding local pureed berries so i have blueberry, strawberry, persimmon, mandarin, grape flavours. noticing how some berries stain, and with a little bit of a background in wool dying, i hope to try some other local berries. i live near New Orleans and i don't expect to find sea buckthorn berries nearby...; ^).
i enjoyed seeing a bit more of you and Molly the cottage looks a treat! are there any fishing spots nearby? joo joo
: ^)
ole kaunis!
~Richard
Thank you Richard, you're so kind! It's so cool that you make sima😊 Such interesting variations you have there! I was never the biggest fan of it and I've never made it myself but I remember my mom making it in my childhood🙂 There's a big lake just nearby so plenty of fishing spots too!
@@tellervo. it's very easy to make! and maybe local Finnish berries might give a better result for your palate!
I just finished several pairs of hand warmers on my old knitting machine...I'm pooped! soap later this week...
be safe and give Molly an extra treat and hug...😊
Lye is to be dissolved in metal or ceramics, what to avoid ?
It's best to use plastic with recycle code 5 or stainless steel. Aluminium should be avoided
Where do you get your coconut oil blocks from ?!
The supermarkets here in Finland have them🙂
Tello mam I want ur book
It would be helpful if you could write the recipe in the doobly doo
If If I couldn’t find Sea buckthorn, can I add Sea Buckthorn oil, how much to be added in place of 90 gm ?
You can but the whole recipe needs to be recalculated
@@tellervo. Ok I will adjust as per the requirements….but in place of 90gm how much gms of sea buckthorn oil to be added…..I will adjust all the ingredients as per the new measures….
Where can I buy the soap cutter?
It's linked in the description box!
❤
And here I am thinking they are not edible to humans!
They totally are, but not that delicious raw🙂
They are edible and actually very, very, very healthy and good for your imune system. Mix them with honey and it will be easier to take/eat. I don't like the taste so i just swallow them with honey 😅
@@weaselcheater9717 I leave them for the wild animals. I have enough food, so I don't need to take theirs. They have a difficult time as it is already.
How many grams is the mold????
About 900 grams
