- Finlay Shakespeare is an artist that operates in two worlds of electronic music. As the founder of Future Sound Systems, Shakespeare engineers Eurorack modules (including a series based on Chris Carter’s device, The Gristleizer) and standalone synths such as the Brunswick. As an artist, he makes gritty, ’80s-leaning synth pop that sits somewhere between Factory Floor and Depeche Mode.
On this Patch Notes session, the Bristol-based artist performs live with an array of vintage and analog gear, including an ARP 2600. Shakespeare’s two recent albums for Editions Mego, 2019’s Domestic Economy and 2020’s Solemnities, are available now. Find more music by Shakespeare at Bandcamp.

Dressed like an estate agent, jams like a rockstar. 🤩
spot on hahaha
@@measures_of_distance awesome!
I’d definitely put an offer in
Any performance that begins with the artist slapping their delightfully fancy equipment in such an epic way is a winner in my opinion 😀
SPRING REVERB!
@@iancain6647 exactly!
That’s what I thought as well. I like this guy
i'm coming back to this video, over and over again.
coming back to watch this absolute incredible banger of a track. need more Finlay!
Energy for days!
Hallo Hainbach! Just thought about Finlay adding your wire recorder plug-in to his mix!👍
Didn't know Buchla were slap to start.
lol the good old slapquencer
Maybe it is done to excite the spring of the spring reverb
It's a trick. He hits a switch or turns a knob at the same moment.
@@anonymoushuman8344 no I’m fairly sure it was to make the spring reverb let out that big boom on the beginning. I used to do the same thing w my guitar amp all the time
Elyssa Palmer - I think you're right, he does set a spring reverb vibrating there. There's also silence just before. Doesn't this mean he also flicks a switch or turns a knob with the other hand? Or is he able to trigger the total audio with the same jostle that vibrates the spring?
great to see someone do something vocal with this kind of set up ... a massive breath of fresh air .... i'll be checking out his other stuff
I agree with you in this case, but it is a double edged sword. i think most of time vocals ruin the intricacies you get from modular gear.
Great to see finlay Shakespeare getting some recognition
this is what your post office manager does in his office on break
Correctly😍 I'm a Project Manager in Home Office and that is what I do in the lunch break. But sadly not with this equipment😭😂
Vox took me by surprise Finlay, easily easily the best, most focused, patch notes yet. And the song hits.. and it works beautifully as a live take. I hope when this comes out it isn't any more produced than it is here. Leave it raw. Floored. Excellent.
a deeply moving piece of music, beautifully written and sung, full of hooks, and, of course, unmatched synth programming. i'm in awe of this every time i come back to listen
which i do a lot
coming back 2 years on - still so fukn sic!!
Sick. Great voice!
Your really good Alan follows your music thank you Finley xx
I kinda love it! I know from personal experience how difficult to manage this synth byst and sing. Music is really nice and the vibe of the artist is very positive.
The much needed performer for SuperBooth 2021 Outside Stage.....Schneider, bump that list!!
Where are the Aloe Vera plants and other odd assorted cacti? Ohhh that’s right you don’t need to dress the set when you flat out kick ass like this! Thanks for being genuine, and true to yourself! Raw fucking power!
This is sooooo good! You can feel the emotions he put into the session! The whole new album is pure bliss. Sounds so great!
I love those vocals. This guy is so talented.
Finlay is so great live. Catch him if you can, it's exhausting though!!
Happy birthday Finley well done with your music xx
didn't expect such great vocals
Here's your life & you've got so much to give, keep on giving & make this world a better place!
Nice! Like a less post-punk more technoid Version of LCD Soundsystem.
With some Gorillaz tossed in for flavor
What the fuck. This seems to be so good for nowdays!I read about him(?) at an interview of Linea Aspera. And i discovered this.Amazing.Greetings from Greece!!!
Holy shit, I came here expecting fancy noodling, but to my amazement got a banger of a track with great vocals to boot :-O Literally awesome!
Thought he was going to go into 'Welcome to the pleasure dome'. What a voice. Great video
Soon as he slapped it, I knew things were about to get serious.
Sick as is, and a real mix would make this shine even more, there's so much gold in there that could be brought out. Really glad to learn about this guy.
I watch this everyday
Thousands of dollars of high end gear, and a little $99 Korg SQ-1 sits on top of all of it. Love it!
a modern classic
People hate on the SQ1 but it's limitations breed creativity
@@donkeyavenger I don't, it's one of my favorite pieces of gear.
What a killer. Loved the vox and the many arp lines
Thank you!
Brings a smile to my face! Thank you :)
Wow, its such a great track with an awesome energy! Love it!!
Fantastic....the energy....
Best patch notes yet! Smashed it!
Awesome, amazing and inspiring! Love the vox!
Great stuff Finlay! And the live vocals are very inspiring, I'll be trying this myself! All it needs (in my synth-DIY geek opinion) is some captions with arrows saying "built this", "designed this", "modded this" etc. :)
amazing performance.. got to love Finlay..
Lovely Finley I can see behind every successful song tells a story I listen to all of your songs♥️
Mad to see Finlay on here, big up!
Beautiful work Finlay!
Gorgeous! Love the ARP percussion, and you have the voice of an angel!
Bless you both 😊😊😊

This is really good. Love this!
fantastic performance!!!
Absolutely nailed it Fin. Great work!
& they say men can't multitask........................inspirational performance Finlay.
wow !! such a great artist !!
This is bloody amazing.
Great sounds! I love that the Buchula system is standing on cardboard boxes! Love the wallpaper as well
Also love that one module isn't even screwed in to the chassis. A very "real" home studio like all of ours!
@@demagmusic so true!
🖤🖤🖤
Love this!
great! I'm amased of his ability to do so much stuff at once

Superb!
Такое я и хотел увидеть!!!!👍👍👍Пока наверное единственный кто совместил микрофон с модуляцией. Вдобавок зарисовка модуляции реально крутая!!!!
Sweet!

Очень хорошо. Смотрю уже 10 й раз❤🙌
Fantastic
What a treat!?👍
Bristle Badman
Love it
Really good
les go Finlay!
brilliant!
I love how all that vintage gear appears to run through a cheap behringer guitar pedal in the bottom right corner. Is it the grey or green one? So cool.
This guy is great
wow. clever man. great voice as well
Great stuff Finlay!!
Keep coming back to this video/track. Really strong!
I am fucking loving it....
