- Hi Everyone, this video is about 10 lessons I have learnt from spending 4 years at boarding school! I have just finished year 12 and I am going into my final year of school, so these are some tips, thoughts and things I wish I had done differently from the start of year 9. Hopefully these tips can help someone starting boarding soon, or just anyone who needs some mOtivAtion for school, exams and life in general.
Also wanted to say that homesickness is normal and everyone is affected by it to some extent so don't worry and I believe in you! xx
Also in response to some opinions about what I have said from friends:
- Perhaps I sounded like I meant the reason for being kind is to receive kindness from other people, but I just wanted to elaborate how that is only one of the many reasons for being kind to other people. - In addition, I did not mean to discourage people from asking 'silly questions' to teachers. Those in my classes know that I certainly ask a lot of silly questions; however, I just wanted to emphasize that teachers will appreciate it more if you have already put thought into your question and tried to research it prior to asking for more clarity. However, if you are in class, the best thing to do is to ask when you do not understand a concept. However, don't forget to concentrate, because only then can you have a better chance of asking questions that everyone else may be thinking too! A lot of the time I zone out and then end up asking questions which teachers have already addressed- and that is not great.

Hi hi! For packing, I haven't managed to film a video about it sorry (as I am starting school tomorrow and may have not started packing yet...) But I wanted to give some general tips:
- Bring your musical instruments + sports kit because half your time will be spent on extra-curriculars!
- Bring your duvet/pillow/mattress topper if you can/ bedding
- Try and get a nice scarf or a tapestry/ dream catchers/ photos to hang in your room! ( a snapchat memory just came up of my room from a few years ago and I had no decorations so i stuck a chocolate wrapper on my wall... so embarrassing lol)
- Bring your stationary and normal school supplies!!
- Bring your chargers/converters for electric toothbrushes/ money for food and trips/ and snacks for when you are hungry at break! Maybe get a tuck box but I just usually stuff food into a drawer so not exactly necessary.
- Bring a few pairs of school shoes/ casual shoes/ sports shoes/ heels
- Bring flipflops/ slippers for when you are in your room or going to the bathroom
- Bring just normal hygiene things
- Bring lots of clothes
- Bring a couple of towels and enough clothes to last until the next round of weekly laundry! (even if you are allowed to use washing machines, my school isn't allowing us to use them now because of Covid)
-Bring hand gel and reusable and washable masks because of Covid!

@@rosia_li tyy, um sorry for so many questions and everything but, is the work very hard compared to private school? And do you do prep in the allocated prep time or free time (after school, after the extracurricular clubs) ?
@@gaiamp haha don't worry i'm glad to help! In my experience the work isn't harder than my old school, it's just requires better time management to handle it alongside living and doing so many extra curriculars. There were prep times specifically, but to be honest I never went to any of them hahahah (mostly cos I was doing music or other stuff). I just did prep when I had free time and if you are finding it hard to balance teachers are always understanding so just make sure to communicate lots :))

I've been crying because I'm moving to a neighboring country, for the last two months. I'm moving between the 14 and 19th of July and I couldn't be more nervous. My first language is portuguese. The country's official language is English. And I want to learn one of its other languages (Afrikaans).

I am going to a private school as an international student this year. I am really excited because I have been preparing it for two to three years and I trust it will be able to flourish my future if I work hard. But I am also super nervous of building new relationship because I am quite introvert.
Besides, I love learning form you as your words always inspire me and encourage me to step out of my comfort zone. Also, your voice and accent are really relaxing, I can listen to them the whole day and for practicing my English too. ☀️💕

Oh my goodness! Good luck when u go!! I have been at boarding school for 7 years now and it has been the best experience of my life, quick tip: TALK TO EVERYBODY!!! When u first arrive make friends with everyone because homesickness may take over and they will get u through. Have so much fun!!!!!!! ❤️❤️

Being on time is so important, but in business, top executives are often early. If you arrive early, you'll be with the others who are organized and on top of things. It's a rarified group and the conversations are worth arriving earlier.

my parents are thinking of sending me to Aiglon or Beau Soleil and I live in Australia and I have no relatives and I don’t know anyone over in Switzerland so I’m trying to make up my mind but I think I will go because it would be amazing and it’s my dream school but I would be in a country alone as a teen

how do you overcome homesickness because I’m leaving in a day and it’s the longest I’ll be away (3 months) and I get homesick really easily, I study on other side of the world :(((((
hey Kayley! I think my advice would be to don't be afraid to cry and express how you feel to people around you when you are truly sad, it is likely that others are feeling the same way. I cried pretty much all the time when I first went when I was 13, and i understand the overwhelming feeling of just wanting to be back home/with family/with familiar friends. it's important that you don't let this get the better of you, we are all allowed to feel but you are too beautiful to be sad! Also understand that positive growth can only happen when we are out of our comfort zones- you will look back in a few years and understand why you felt that way but maybe wish you had just taken in the opportunities to laugh, pretend to be confident and have fun. It's crazy because I first started boarding in 2016 and now I have 2 months left of boarding school- I can't believe how quickly the time has gone and before you know it you will be wondering that too! I call home almost every day so that can help too, but just occupying yourself with books, school work, exercise, music, talking to people, food will make you feel better. I'm sure eventually you will figure out who is worth building good friendships with but don't let that stress you out and stay true to yourself. If you are lonely, just remember you can never be with God by your side and Jesus in your heart if you allow him to be. Your parents also want you to enjoy! And just think that you will be able to see them again in 3 months which sounds like a long long time but I promise you it will go by in an instant! Enjoy the journey and use it to get to know yourself more, and eventually this hard experiences will be able to help you on your journey to making an impact in this world for sure :) hope that helped a bit, but good luck and I will be praying for you

I have to go to a boarding school next year sep 2023 and im kinda nervous because what if i dont get accepted taht would be sad especially because im going to year 9 there and people say its hard to get it hopefully thats not true..
Getting in isn't really hard honestly but it's a really overwhelming process to actually believe you're going away from everything you know into something completely new

@@_leenaomi there's a lot of considerations that your parents need to make. some parents prefer to have their children at home so they can parent them themselves, another huge factor is cost. boarding school is not for everyone.

I could and would not ever have even thought about sending my son to Boarding school. Every second with your kids is precious and you will never get that time back. When they get to teenage years you won't see them much anymore anyway. I HONESTLY believe that parents that send their kids to boarding school don't love their kids as much as normal people do. It seems to me like they are just palming their own kids off for their own freedom. Sorry if this comment comes across as harsh, but what parent would want to spend ANY less time with their kids if they truly love them? There is a documentary on here that wouldn't allow comments, which led me here, and in it a male teacher entered an 8 year old girls dorm in the morning without even knocking. I would have left a LOT more serious comments on there if I was permitted. Boarding schools are out-dated and over-rated and lazy parents are just pumping cash into these over-priced dumps. You seem like a nice young lady, but I think you should sit down and have a serious chat with your parents about what the hell they were thinking by literally abandoning you.
You never know the reason people go to boarding school. I’m sending my daughter to boarding school so she can be far from her abusive father. I’m doing this because I love her so watch what you say.

I go to five day a week boarding schools because I ASKED to. It actually makes me see my parents more because I hang out with them on the weekends when I'm home. Boarding gives me structure which my ADHD brain needs, and it also gives me more time to be organised, sleep, socialise and just get my life together. My parents are not 'pAlmInG mE OfF fOr ThEIr oWn fREedoM', they are respecting my choices and helping me grow as a person.
