Our 49 year old son recently appears to have had a “mental” breakdown. Result of 4 months of VERY bizarre and unusual (even for him) episodes, he burnt his house down😢
He then spent 4 months in solitary confinement. The judge sent him to a transition facility instead of prison because he did not have a prior felony record. He only lasted nine days. There was a wonderful place, but he was not ready for population. Whatever was going on in his mind was 10 times worse from being an isolation for four months with only he’s on thoughts he got only two hours a day out of a 24 hour day for four months 72 ft.²
So then he was assigned to Probation Officer and supposedly there were doctor appointments to go to. The problem is nobody has evaluated him done a brain scan and MRI or anything. They’re just talking to him at a behavioral center with a certified social worker but not a psychiatrist yet he was not sent to a hospital directly after jail to be evaluated and diagnosed and possibly medicated and to gradually re-entered society with people now he is living in a one room motel on the outskirts of town -he wanders around at night when we go to get him to take him to a doctors appointment. His personality is very erratic. He tries to be appreciative anything sets him off and he is very agitated and angry and then the next minute he’s thinking us we cannot seem to find anybody to help us to do anything for him any quicker, that was December 18 when he burnt his house it is now almost 7 months. He appears to get worse by the week his siblings and everyone else have shown him and will have nothing to do with them. They have not even contacted him one time it’s just his dad and I.
    Please!!! Help us help him
    This is not our son😢
    He has two daughters
18 and 24 period difficult for them because they don’t want the family to be upset with them if they embrace him so they keep their distance. They have had minimal and almost no interaction with him.
The system has moved so slowly he is just very close to being homeless on the streets. We’re paying for his motel right now most of his food and everything we need help this is not our son.

Sometimes I think it can be from Genes alone and not necessarily a traumatic childhood. My 18 year old was recently diagnosed with BPD and she had nothing but a loving, supportive and non judgemental upbringing. So we are at a loss on what trauma she had experienced to have caused this.
