- What ‘B’ is a full length version of the theme music to a popular 80s tea time game show?
Blockbusters ran on ITV in the UK from 1983-1993. Presented by Bob Holness, this popular game show (produced by Central Television) was instantly recognisable for its theme tune, written by Ed Welch.
Working on this remix brought back a lot of childhood memories of the show and in particular certain phrases such as “put yourself on the hotspot” and “can I have a ‘P’ please Bob?”
Hopefully, this remix (using music from the first series in 1983) will have you doing a hand jive (as was frequently performed by the studio audience) and make you lose yourself in the 80s synthesized sounds.
I've also included the Central TV ident music at the start.
No copyright infringement intended. This is a tribute remix born out of my love for the show and lots of childhood memories. Copyright belongs to Ed Welch and Central Television/ITV.
These themes were brilliant as the production companies had proper budget to work with and when this was recorded in 1983, synthesizers and sequencers were well and truly starting to become mainstream instruments creating themes that couldn't happen before such as the 'code sequence' line in this and the CS-80 'stings' . However, they still had a full string and brass section and real bass and drums which gave this theme its epic sound. Later mixes and re-arrangements lost that big sound. This ran until 1992 in this original mix and there was a master version recorded in stereo that was used for the early NICAM broadcasts from 1989.
Right from the sting from the Central ident at the start, this is a belter 😎👍🏻
Love how you sneaked the Central ident theme in at the start too!
l loved blockbusters back in the day...and the theme tune is legendary..... bob holness was the man...RlP
Just amazing, I can see Bob dancing to this at the end of the show now with the students
A great remix. Ever thought of doing something with the Knightmare theme (original or early 90s one)? Possibly the best thing to ever come out of Anglia Television.
Second best. Tales of the Unexpected was the best thing the minions of the silver knight on horseback made.
Another winner, guys! Keep them coming! Bob’s Full House is my request! If you want a copy of the tune to play with, do let me know :-)
Thanks. The tricky bit is trying to find the theme tunes without the audience applause, but Bob’s Full House would definitely be a good one to remix!
@@CutThrust Pop me an email to greg@gregscott.tv and I'll get what I've got over to you :-)
Oh my god I'm 3 again. I loved Blockbusters and it's one of my earliest TV memories along with He-Man. You should do He-Man...
There is coverage on the BBC news of the total solar eclipse in Mexico and all I can think of is the first few seconds of this and the Central TV logo.
This is the best thing I have ever heard.
My favourite game show theme tunes of all time and crystal maze.
Your remixes are fantastic.
Love it. Now do countdown!
Still blockbusters hand jiving in 2022
I distinctly remember someone once asking for "a P please Bob" and then jumping in abruptly with the answer "Prostitutes" sending everyone into fits of laughter. Nowadays they'd edit that sort of thing out.
And who could forget someone giving the answer "Orgasm" for an O when they meant organism 🤣🤣
"Can I have a P please Bob" (snigger snigger)
I still remember the very final episode which finished, after a Gold Run with everybody - all the contestants from that series, the crew and Bob himself - doing the Blockbusters Hand-Jive one last time....
19 May 1993. :) Though it wasn't quite the end, as the show moved to Sky 1, where it stayed on the air for about a year.
so do i
Fantastically hypnotic!
The first 90 seconds of this are such a tease with the intro before it gets into the main part of the theme itself 🤓
The Central TV ident is definitely in there too.
Gold run guarantee👍👍
Guaranteed to give you a gold run
I enjoyed this far more than I expected too….nice one folks!
Or you could do a longer version or song of that central ident from beginning I love it!
Perhaps involving some of these: czcams.com/video/brbYsdLHbgU/video.html
So you mean he just remixes the Central morning startup theme from 1982-83? That’s a long version of the ident jingle.
Yes ;)
Well the one used in the blockbuster remix sounds best to me oh as I'm at it..may aswell do meridian and htv too lol!
Can I have a P please? LOL 😂 👍
Absolutely brilliant!
There’s def a good remix in the equaliser theme if you can give it a go
wow love it yep can you do strike it lucky??
it's probably not worth the effort czcams.com/video/bhFXsnb0njQ/video.html
Brill mix of a classic CITV game theme!!
Can I have a P please bob lol
Great work, thank you for this!
Super work as always
Didn't expect to like it..nice
wish that in the original series the 1st time at gold run was a shot at 250 pounds & the 2nd time was a shot at 500 pounds. And when it became best 2 out of 3, it was just 500 at the gold run
THAT'S SO GREAT 🤩
OMG! where have you been all my life. Loving all these, especially Blockbusters, Hart 2 Hart & Cilla. Ever thought about doing ‘Going for Gold?’ Thanks so much! Amazing
P.s The Central ident was also a great idea 😂
Thanks. Going for Gold is on my list! 😊
Also interceptor the show with annebelle croft
Yes!@@ade220574
Love it!
Bob is dancing in his grave to this.
Your comment is inappropriate
Just come across your channel... Really good. Can you remix strike it lucky?
Thanks 😊 It’s on my list
Now a decent copy by you of Strike It Lucky would be marvelous!
Listening to the theme without the opening visuals just doesn't work for me.
Do the Blockbusters Hand Jive
“I’ll have a P please Bob!”
Do you release these on itunes too?
Unfortunately not as this is a tribute remix and copyright belongs to the original creators. I hope you can still enjoy listening to it here 😊
Here's an odd one, remix the theme to Albion Market from 1985. Nobody ever remembers that show.
It's time to play Blockbusters with your host…
Matt Allwright!
1:26
H & Claire are doing it, Mo Heart's doing it, Fern Britton's doing it and even Alaska 5000 is doing it, Do the Blockbusters Hand Jive
Mash this up with the Bald and the Beautiful theme song for Baldbusters!
