the helldivers dev team trained its playerbase to focus on a singular enemy as a unified force and take them down en masse. and sony felt that unified force VERY clearly.

I'm entirely convinced that Steam offering unconditional refunds is what tipped the scales. One of the few actually pro-consumer companies still around.
Remember that Steam only started offering refunds because they were sued in Australia (and lost the case) because they didn't offer refunds.
they are not pro consumer. They can, have, and will continue, to take away your games any time the licenses run out. You do not have a physical copy? You don't have a game. You are merely holding a lease to a game, that can be cancelled at any time. Go read their EULA.
Calling Steam pro-consumer is a pretty monumental stretch.
Steam doesn't give a fuck about the consumer, they just care about money, and they're willing to play the long game. Remember, Steam has had no qualms with deleting negative reviews for cash cows in the past, implement one of the most notable examples of loot boxes in all of gaming for two of their games (one of which they found a way to backpedal on being "free forever" by removing basic essential functionality from the game for players that haven't paid in yet), and have no trouble REFUSING unconditional refunds on other games where it would be justified because they know they can get away with it.

Steam is the whole reason were in this mess in the 1st place. I had to buy half-life 2 twice because the 1st email I used for it went obsolete and I had to make a new one to access my new game. When I asked steam about it they told me to buy another one without access to the old email.

Even on the rare occasion where a CEO/Board KNOWS its a bad idea to take the money because the consequences will later destroy the company, its Legally VERY hard for them to say no. Because most courts will say NOT taking the Blackrock investment is a breach of Fiduciary Responsibility, and it only takes a small amount of shareholder questions to start that process.
That's essentially what Blackrock and Vanguard are relying on, they target companies that need some sort of quick cash injection because it's Legally Next to Impossible for any Publicly traded company to say "No". And they'll do their damndest to make sure any Privately Owned, Privately Traded or Employee owned Company they can't invest in NEVER gets big enough to challenge the big Publicly Traded ones

I think one big reason as to why there was such a huge backlash to Helldivers 2 in particular was the terrible and incompetent initial response by the CMs. They were making snarky replies to anyone concerned about the change until they realized they had a PR nightmare on their hands, at which point it was far too late to prevent.

mw3 and mw3 mercs were all right if i remember right. not as allright as mw2 and mw2 mercs.
i just wished mw5 mercs was like mw2 mercs for the campaign and not the 150 tons vs. 400 tons fest that it is for most of the game when it isn't 250 tons vs 1000 tons. the mission tonnages should be similar and the enemies should have decent enough ai that it's a challenge at that.

Sony and censorship have gone hand in hand since the inception of the PlayStation, called the "Sony Check". Even Kojima famously got into arguments with the PS1 port of Policenauts being censored on the platform. It still exists today obviously, it just changed hands from Japan to California.
I wish people understood that when they get on the same page, under a common agenda, without fear, the people hold ALL the power. We can achieve and demand anything, but we don't because the media does a great job of 'divide and conquer', certainly socially and politically. We are weak when we are divided... So it's awesome to see people achieving a common goal against 'the machine' for once.

Yes. Sony was (and might still) going to be sued into oblivion by the EU, which has strong protection laws on this type of stuff. You sold, then de-listed the game from EU countries (the baltics) and required them to have to buy a ps5 console in Ukraine to play, even after already having bought the game. EU's economy is in the shitter and they would just love to get several millions from Sony for practically... nothing.
And why would Steam do that? Because of the gamers rising up of course.

To be fair to stellar blade, I'm pretty sure most people played it for the main character and the anti-censorship points, however, most people from what I understand actually really like the combat and say that gameplay is actually really good.
