Assassin's Creed is known for some crazy stunts, none more so than the Leap of Faith. But can you REALLY jump off a building, land in hay, and walk away like Ezio and the rest of the Assassins? More importantly, what does the WAY Ezio falls REALLY say about the Assassin's Creed universe?

Im pretty sure the Assassins have the first civilization DNA mixed in with their human DNA so it might mean that they can survive stuff that humans can’t. Which explains how they recover so easily from sword and bullet wounds and can get right back up after such high falls. But that’s just a theory. A game theory
but not everyone in the AC universe has first civ genes
@@sixinchisok5754 Yes, as evidenced when you shove a gaurd off a ledge, and his buddy shoves you off. At the bottom is a gaurds body, and a pretty upset Altair
Isu arent more physically capable than humans. Only mentally. Shove em off a building and if they dont have any of their bs tech, they die. Humans thankfully wiped them out.
This means that even humans with isu DNA would still be fucked.

I just realised something assassin creed takes place in memories. When a person is jumping off something wouldnt their perception of time be altered because of adrenaline ? maybe it could cause them to think they are moving faster.
Actually adrenaline, along with a bunch of other hormones, actually slows down the perception of time. They all work together to put your body in overdrive mode, making everything work faster making time seem slower.

The Mangle Sure, that can do the trick. Also, if you've ever participated in any physically demanding games/sports and then listened to a song you've heard before it will sound as if it is being "played slower". It's pretty awesome, and it lets me know I've been training in a heightened state, which is always good for working on your reflexes.

After recent news about MatPat's departure, its nice going on a little trip to the first video I ever saw on this channel way back when it first came out. Thanks for the years of entertainment and cheers to whatever is next for you MatPat.
Remember, we're not talking about ordinary human beings here, either.
1) These are people who can get stabbed, shot multiple times, and then go hide in a bush or underwater and completely regenerate their health in two seconds.
2) They can see shit with Eagle Vision and mark targets from far away (known as "the sense").
3) Edward had no formal assassin training whatsoever and he killed a seasoned assassin after being shipwrecked, exhausted, and shot in the shoulder. He could also climb just as good as any assassin before or after him (that we know of) because "every finger's a fish hook".
4) Most, if not all of them, can leap from the top of a building and land on their target, killing it, and suffer no damage whatsoever.
After all of that, jumping from a tower and landing in a stack of palm leaves doesn't seem so far fetched (compared to everything else).
Oh and they can run forever, basically.
Chad Small same with everyone else in that universe. i mean desmon has been shot in ac3 for awhile before u die during the infiltrate abstergo mission. and i feel that the fall just appears sped up in the animus cause thats how it felt for the ancestors. so the gravity could be just the same. like time and speed being illusions to the mind at times
You know what's cool? There's an in-game justification for that if you think about it.
Actually, the Assassin's never got stabbed/shot multiple times. That's just you/Desmond or whoever is in the animus not following their ancestors properly causing them to lose synchronization(health).
Not true. There are even scripted scenes in which the assassins are shot or stabbed. For example, the very first part of AC4 when you're chasing the assassin. He comes around a corner and says something like "follow me and I'll kill you". He then shoots you and you shrug it off in about two seconds.

Same.
7 years later this still is great
Maybe when the memory was recorded in one of the assassin's memories, they viewed it as being faster, so when Desmond views it, its faster.
░KenLinx░ Genius.
░KenLinx░ Good thinking.
░KenLinx░ That would explain the skewed gravity. Great idea, and it does have a lot of evidence. Desmond is told in AC2 that all of Ezio's memories, years of them, could be transferred in a few days. It definitely makes sense.
Cam Begley it also explains how Desmond miles can skip a few years in the animus and in the real world, it is still the same day
░KenLinx░ Desmond did very fast leap of faith too...
Can we also discuss how his legs and head always hit the edges of the wheel-barrow? Makes me wince thinking about it.

Funny vid, BUT... You adjusted the wrong variable. (NERDALERT) The buildings in AC1 are actually built in a smaller scale then their real life cousins. Actually close to a 1:2 scale. So the Gravity controlled by the engine is correct but the bulding are shorter. AC2 increased the scale closer to 1:1.5. And AC-Unity is the first game to crate buildings in a 1:1 scale. Check out their developer diery on their new engine for confirmation. :)

I always had a problem with the hypergravity end stuff . They would have evolved on a planet that has doubled gravity so none of the problems to the body would've happened and even the buildings would still stand because the materials would be able to withstand the gravity as they were made on a that planet and not earth
But the assasins HAVE lived their whole life in 2x gravity

Don’t forget you’re looking through all this in an animus where time can be sped up so they can get to the important memories faster. Who knows? Maybe gravity was a lot weaker back then and the animus just speeds up all the jumps.
Luke McNamara how could gravity be weaker
I don't know about gravity being weaker but the speed things is exactly what I was thinking.
I doubt it. Do you notice how if perform a jump that ISN'T a leap of faith from a high point, a genuine leap of faith, you fall faster? But if you perform a leap of faith into a haystack, it's much slower?
I have an idea of mine, It is in an Animus and they may slow time in leaps of faith, I guess Desmond wanted to see the view from above and fall, and Tek, it is trying to watch the memories of those that existed from earlier days and the memories being watched or projected may not be accurate in time but see what they saw at their time.
If you watch close in one of the games (either the second or the first) when jumping off a really high building everything (including people) speeds up intel you reach the hey stack. I’m pretty sure time doesn’t speed up around you when you fall. Also this is still someone’s memories anyway. TLDR: the animus speeds up everything when you fall far in one of the games or it’s just the character’s memory.
This needs to be my school lesson!! I learned a lot!!
I would like to point out the gravity of assassin's Creed is the same because he's not falling from the top of the tower, he's falling from a wooden pole attached to the side about 3-4 feet below the top of the tower. And on top of that the hay he's falling into is suspended by a wagon about 3 more feet off the ground (given the standard moving wagons wheels are 9 ft. In diameter and all wheels suspend a cart made for them about 1/3 of the wheel's diameter.
Damn. Well done my guy
When the assassin is falling into the hay cart when Mat is explaining the equation in the beginning, it looks to me like before impact, the assassin's body is halfway out of the cart, but then he like teleports over just in time to hit the hay.

One possible flaw: How do we know that game time vs real time has a ratio of 1:1 during the fall(s)?
I've seen some games that sped up game-time during some scenes to prevent them from overstaying their welcome due to their non-interactivity. (EG:"30 seconds for this cut-scene? Speed it up to 20, that way it'll end before they quit out of boredom.")
"Quit of boredom from 30 second cutscenes? That's cute."
-Hideo Kojima
the example was from a Meddling Executive's point of view, they aren't known for their contact with reality.
yeah, but that generally makes perceived time slower (to improve response time) not faster.
time does seem to slow when you jump
SkyCharger001 your right time slows at the initial jump where u have control but once you lose control in assassins Creed the time drastically speeds up in every situation even going as far as in plot when your character loses metaphorical control of a situation they time skipp
Maybe it's just an animus bug?

I don't think a person have survived af fall from 9656km.... You would burn up in the atmosphere before you hit the ground :-)
Then tell. How does it work?
He said he made a mistake from his cold medication. It was supposed to be 9.656 km or 9,656 m. That's nowhere near the border of the atmosphere. The atmosphere has no fixed border, it just gets thinner the higher you get until there is no difference between atmosphere and interplanetary medium - this transition happens between 800 km and 1500 km altitude. If you would jump from a still standing platform in 100,001 m altitude, you would not automatically burn up. If you jump from a platform in an extremely low 100 km orbit, you'll have the 7800 m/s velocity from the platform relative to Earth. In that case, you will with certainty burn up. From 9.656 km, the atmosphere is still stable and you could breathe normally in it. If the fall would be from 9.656, it would still have to be more than 791 - 1,491 km higher. Considering the height of the tower at which you jump, you would have less than a .1 fraction chance of burning up before hitting the ground.
Yeah... I commented too fast.. :-)
Oscar Gade-Frimann
Oscar Gade-Frimann yeah i noticed that two.
I guess the weight of the armor? Some bug in the animus? Who knows?
weight of the armour??.. don't do physics.
+Ravenzx Zanganzx If Ezio was toting heavier and heavier armor, he'd experience greater force of gravity for the same velocity, meaning the effects of drag are reduced relative to the force of gravity. But no matter how many cheese doodles he packs on, gravity will always have the same acceleration on him.
It's probably that the animus speed up falling or it could be that I suppose
He generates a shield of unadulterated badassery that protects him from the fall.
+Ravenzx Zanganzx Well I guess in a universe where a planet with the size of the earth has Jupiter-like gravity then you might as well add some super-human assassins to the mix
Its always nice when the assassin slides over a bit mid fall in order to hit the hay cart and the hit it sideways (clearly hitting their shoulders) and walks away fine seconds later
Ahhh back again, hearing the headset mic is nostalgic
The hay is left there for a long time which means it gets rained on and the bottom of the hay rots and gets soggier which is good
Wet hay is denser. It's basically the same as your hair. When it's dry, it puffs out and is soft. When it's wet, the water weighs it down and makes it a single mat.

Finally played this this year. Ezios family is still a fantastic song
That add placement made me think the video was actually over
Even though I enjoy the ridiculous over thinking, it's pretty obvious that the leap of faith (LoF from now on) is an on-rails animation with a fixed duration. It also changes the field of view slightly to make it seem faster. If you manage to jump off at the same height without triggering the LoF animation, you'll notice that the falls from the large heights are significantly longer and the shorter falls are much faster. (Actually, if you somehow manage to jump off in a non LoF area and land in a hay pile without triggering the LoF animation, you'll usually die from the fall, and if it does trigger the LoF you're treated with a very jarring and unrealistic animation where you're jerked sideways and abruptly rotated into the LoF position)
At shorter heights LoF seems to go into slow motion first and then speed up to normal speed, while at greater heights it starts at normal speed and speeds up significantly.
I think they just used one default duration for most LoF's and a few custom durations for the largest falls, optimized not for realism but for how long the player is willing to endure an on-rails animation before getting annoyed. Probably the extra long custom durations for the largest falls was necessary both to make it more "epic" and to avoid making it a flickering blur.
Another obvious clue that it's an on rails animation is that it follows the same curve from where you started and in the direction you were facing every time but at the end of the animation it suddenly adjusts the position by translating the position to match the target, so that you hit the target even though you should have missed it. At 3:28 see how he should have landed with his back or neck on the edge of the cart, but somehow he magically jerks forwards to land perfectly. It's probably a lot easier using the same movement curve and translating it during the fall than to calculate a curve that would actually hit the target every time.
Dang. A lot to read! 😝
+Mrs DinoRawr You read books longer than this in elementary school... Just saying... I doesn't take long to read this much. The post itself is actually quite useful. I've a number of the games and even I didn't notice the animation speed variances. Yet I really wasn't that focused on the event. I just marked it off as "epic jumps just for sake of epic jumps" and nothing else. Never thought there was a hint of reality in the act. I preferred the combat system more and focused on it... but the more you! etc.

Why can't people just accept the fact that it's a game and it's not 100 percent logic
+Sarah Karlsson cus its interesting
+Sarah Karlsson because some people are obsessed with reality and think some games should mimic it exactly which is stupid since it is a game and not reality.
***** Thank you for agreeing with me, I thought I was going to be mass-attacked by game lovers XD
People watch this channel because they like to overthink videogames :P
+Sarah Karlsson Because If we won't criticize them, how do you expect them to get better?
That's assuming that the gravity on Earth suddenly increased after being the normal 1 G forever. If it had always been like that in this world, life would have evolved to handle it long ago and architects would design buildings to be able to stand under this gravity.
Yes. If gravity had always been like this, nothing would be changed in theory, as literally everything on earth would be suited for this amount of gravity, while if gravity suddenly changed to this increased amount of gravitational pull, then we would plainly die.
Not excactly, since stone would still have the same desity, so while architekts might adapt to the high gravity, buildings would have to be more stable than usually, making it highly unlikely that they would look the same.
But that means the gravitational pull between the sun and earth would change. Also the earth would be the second slowest planet in our solar system meaning the years would be much longer. So in theory the game would be much longer. I think, I'm only 10 so I have only seen people play it and we don't do science in school often.
grat speling brro
did that on purpose
Austin Beale evolution is fake. Wires missing link. god did it all. god created all. he ended all. he is all
I know this was from forever ago but what if the assassins are just seeing these falls at a different speed like they do with eagle vision
Came back in 2021, that old intro still slaps
