    Philadelphia's most dangerous street.
Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

As an ex meth addict for 22 years this is so sad to watch. I was a 'functioning addict'' and always had a job. I had no one to finance my addiction but myself. After 22 years I had grown SICK OF IT and prayed for God to save me . Within 10 days my apartment was raided and I went to jail for 4 weeks. I lost my job and my home . After jail I was completely sober and had lost all desire for drugs. I paid my attorney,my court costs and my probation off the next 5 years. I've been sober for 7 years now and have never looked back. You have to be tired of the drugs and have a hatred for them along with faith in God to overcome addiction and STAY off them.

Clean for 7 years means you are still addicted to the drug and have fears. As many alcoholics who no longer drinkers use the same words. If you stop now and carry on life then people will know you as who you are now. Once people hear you are clean, they will red light stamp you to not be trusted. You should delete your comment and just be who you are now. That is when you are truly clean and away from any drugs. It is absolutely foolish to still go down there.

@singjazzy6697 Your comment is absolutely perposterous. I have been completely sober from any and all mind altering substances since October 2016. Henceforth, I am entirely abstinent. When I had stated that I go down there I was referring to going down there to do outreach and help feed the addicts who are suffering within their addiction. Please consider deleting your comment and maybe try gaining some knowledge and understanding while you are at it.

What a dreadful sadness am I feeling. Having watched this whole video with endless tears, and speaking as an italian citizen living in Italy, this is simply excruciating, especially considering the young age of the people shown (which… really shocked me). There is definitely something really bad going on within all of us humans, as a species. I am really devastated, and worried…

    • @MacCekko
      @MacCekko Před 8 měsíci

@a0921959210 I know, and perhaps I can even agree with your tought to some degree. But it would be too easy (and possibly unfair) to simply blame americans in general, considering also that 'people' are never really to blame as much as their class of political representatives (I also well know, though, that more or less everyone deserves their own political leadership provided that they are living in a democratic country; I know well too much this, being italian, believe me, as I certainkly am convinced that my country is actually led by a government swarming with demented and mentally incapacitated fascist clowns!), and even taking into account that such things don't seem to happen in Europe - not to this point - as far as I am aware of, still the capacity of human beings to destroy everything they touch... is indisputable (to quote Agent Smith from Matrix back in 1999, "(Humans) are virus"). Still it saddens me very much to witness such disgrace for the young people shown in this video. I am sure that, all in all, you agree with me, regardless of whose fault it is. That is, in the end, the whole point, on my opinion.

I feel the same way. It’s so tragic, so disturbing, so sad. This new drug they’re using, along with fentanyl is basically causing a skin eating condition. People say that it’s a “choice”. Addiction is NOT a choice. It’s a monster that will not lose its grip and will only cause the hell addicts suffer at its hands. I look at these people like humans, not just addicts. They are mothers, daughters, aunts; they are fathers and brothers, uncles; friends. They live each day in despair, insanity, homelessness, fear, poverty, deplorable conditions … they’re desperately seeking refuge, kindness and understanding. They need help, not arrest. They suffer even more trauma when they’re shut in a cage and left alone to agonizing withdrawal, getting no kindness, care, support and understanding. The conditions they suffer in jail are worse than living on the streets homeless and in fear of attack or death from the hundreds of addicts who roam the streets along with them. It’s a desperate situation that the authorities have the power and resources to make the world of “Kensington Ave” changed, obliterated and a thing of the past.

Scenes like these are unfamiliar in my native Croatia. So this is all happening in a country that gives itself all the rights to go around the world and lecture other countries and cultures about freedom and democracy. In Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia and a few other EU countries you don’t see scenes like these , cause the family unit is still strong, because people go to church, and because women are still women and men are still men.

Working the problem employs more people than solving the problem. Cities like this would go broke if they solved the problem and lost Federal money to work the problem. A lot of people make their living off the homeless. If those factories were open and running, this problem would not exist. This is the result of giving our jobs to China for 40 years. America replaced manufacturing know how with social worker know how.

They chose it. No one forced these people to try drugs they knew were addictive, basically destroying their own lives. Perhaps the real problem here is the enabling by aiding with no strings, or conditions attached. I have conditions attached to my life, everyone that works does. I don't see why there's this attitude of, oh you want to continue doing drugs, well that's fine, here, let's give you food and some housing enabling you to continue living this way until the day you likely OD. Does that sound like a healthy way to treat this problem? It doesn't to me. If you're going to aide them, require something of them.

You, your fellow countrymen and all "allies" of the US around the world, especially those countries that DEPEND on the US Taxpayers and Military to keep their country safe, should be extremely concerned about the path the United States is headed down. Not many wanted to defend Trump in 2020 after the election, it seemed the entire world was glad Biden "won", but look at the world today. Biden is a demented joke, no one believes he has the mental capacity to buy a Happy Meal much less runt he US. We all know there's others behind the blue suit that are pulling the strings to this fool.
China certainly knows and so does Russia and Ukraine. They are profiting heavily from Biden and his crime syndicate.
All "ally" countries to the US should be supporting Trump and hoping he is re-elected.
Those of you in Foreign lands have no understanding of how many able-bodied people in the US aren't working, aren't educating themselves and are just sitting around living off of tax payers. These people aren't making themselves available to work or join the military, these people would be needed in a time of crisis or war, meaning your country won't get he help it needs.

@dh2392 I think your words also make sense, but I heard that some of them addicted to drugs without realizing it by being prescribed fentanyl. I wonder if drugs with these risks can be managed more strictly. If it is difficult to resolve the issue on its own due to lobbying by pharmaceutical companies, just as there is an international organization that manages nuclear materials, a strong organization can be implemented by excluding people related to pharmaceutical companies who have conflicts of interest and enforcing standards and rules through a group made up of other experts. I think it is good to regulate it accordingly. The average Korean perceives drugs as more dangerous than any other substance.

Inequality has nothing to do with it. I work with addicts and there are people that have master's degrees, but most dropped out of school around 10th grade due drug exposure in their environment and having past abuse or trauma. However, this is not an injustice that needs should be handled by the government to give them housing and food stamps. Half the patients I work with have disability income and use it to buy their drugs. The only government help they need is drug rehab, and education for a long as they stay clean. On the other hand, we also have some patients that are in treatment and return a few days after discharge. Some have been patients for many years. Some leave as soon as they go through the detox and leave AMA, some don't make it that far. All patients are referred to outpatient or inpatient aftercare and very few go. This is a choice, not injustice. An addict is an addict and recovery is a lifelong process. If does no good to put them in a situation where they have more responsibilities than they can handle, when what they really need is to have help dealing with their past.

DRUGS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM, they are treating the symptoms that come about when a person finds themself in
overwhelming circumstances/situations that they no longer feel they have the ability to overcome. They are mostly immigrants and commute from the suburbs everyday. They live in huge houses built on what was once farm land. 4 generations are typical.
They operate behind thick bulletproof glass. They have extended families that take yearly turns in country on VISA's running the cash cows taking from the 'druggies', selling mostly beer and cigarettes. Just until the kids graduate as a doctor or engineer, then they retire back in country, wealthy. They are living the 'Indian Dream'.
