  • The most important thing for an alpine skier is good rhythm. You need good rhythm with basically every thing you do. In all aspects of life. How you train, how you rest, how you eat, how you sleep etc.... but foremost you need good rhythm in your skiing. That is what pre-season training is all about, FIND YOUR RHYTHM. Skiing is turning left and right and with proper physical, technical and mental preparation you are in the game. Watch here how WC racer Matej Vidovic from Croatia trains at the epic high altitude glacier ski racing site at Saas Fee in Switzerland.
    Enjoy,
    Tom

The slo-mo was interesting, showing he’s looking ahead (and turning his upper body) towards the next turn just before he enters the current one.

What's the purpose of the inside hand touching the snow: Is it a timing tool, a balance drill, or something else? BTW, thanks for another great video.

There is no real purpose and it could be considered a flaw. However, its part of Matejs style and helps him feel confident.

@@Triggerboy62 That's what I imagine, and what it kind of looks like, because it's so gradual on the way into the turn until he jabs his hand down into the snow at the apex then quickly brings it back up again. I'm sure it's just unconscious confidence in having it there, and a bit of a timing tool, but it might end up keeping him in a position that is a tad squatty and bent over forward that could be detrimental in performing a quick transition. I think seeing that he isn't doing it in the flats points toward it being a confidence tool
