    Funniest thing to me is how they complain about the female protagonist in the movie but it follows the same exact main character formula in every mad max movie as in the main character doesn’t say or do much and it focuses on other people, the main character just tags along in every scenario. Like seriously Dementus and the praetorian driver were more main characters than furiosa. She was just around them a lot when big things were happening

    I believe that Mason is 100% correct in his assessment of the section of the audience that responds so weirdly negatively to seeing anyone even slightly different from them in a trailer. Particularly women for some reason.
    There’s an even deeper level of irony in it, in my opinion, because anecdotally, some people claim that writing different types of stories and characters is a form of narcissism on the part of certain writers, but will respond to it with a desire only to see characters only like themselves, completely lacking in self awareness.

    I loved Furiosa. So much thought was put into building the world. George Miller has fully developed the culture, politics, economics, logistics, warfare tactics, etc. of the wasteland. It's so creative how the different warbands use salvaged junk in innovative ways, take advantage of the terrain, employ deception and subterfuge, and even make clever use of the dirt to create cover.
    Every franchise needs someone like George Miller, who thinks up of every aspect of the world to create a detailed believable universe.

      @frankcooke1692 Před měsícem +2

      It's the insurance companies, right? I mean - if you CAN do it in CGI - the insurance company is charging more in premiums for a stunt than it costs just to do it in CGI, or as close as possible. Because they know that is the cost/benefit ratio?

    • @michaelclarke3485
      @michaelclarke3485 Před měsícem

      @@frankcooke1692I know insurance is a big part of lacking practical stunts, especially if it's the main actors and not doubles.
      But if you've seen it, which I imagine you have the world felt fake and the cgi teams hadn't had enough time to flesh it out, the colour grading was odd as well. Besides that I thought it was good, the prequel curse of knowing who lives and who dies takes any suspense away unfortunately

    • @frankcooke1692
      @frankcooke1692 Před měsícem

      @@michaelclarke3485 Yeah, the whole appeal of Mad Max is that it's a spectacle. People got hurt making them - and not that I want that to happen. But the stakes just aren't there if it's all done on computers. There was never that much in the way of a plot or even dialogue - but you barely noticed. George Miller just has some cool ideas, and he put them onto a screen. He's like, the opposite of Goerge Lucas.

      Yes, exactly. Film is a vehicle (no pun intended) for empathy. You can look at any character, of any background or scenario and, if they are not written terribly, you suspend your disbelief and hopefully find yourself relating to characters. I’m neither Australian, a woman or a wasteland survivor. I can’t drive or shoot but I find Furiousa’s story in fury road to be the best part of that film.
      The problem occurs when certain people refuse to take any stories not featuring a big buff, usually white, man seriously.

    What's the record for the oldest film that's been rebooted? We're yet to see anybody smear their dirty underpants all over Singin' in The Rain - but it will happen. So I don't think this is literally the last Mad Max film - because in 100 years, in a much more depraved epoch than we can even imagine - somebody will do something beyond tasteless with it - probably the very day that it is public domain.

    Men not liking movies like this is not a negative reflection on men, and I think it's funny that the only men who think that are men who never really had to lift a finger in their lives and just talk about stuff on the internet. I'm old and I grew up in the 80s and there was a reason why in the 80s the biggest action stars were Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. It's because these guys are freaking big! Whether or not they could do it in real life they LOOKED like they could beat a bunch of men. So when they did something badass on screen like beat a room full of men my suspension of disbelief was satiated. Anya taylor-joy is a phenomenal actress, but she is not and will never be an action star because quite simply I could pick her up with one hand and that does not allow my disbelief to be suspended.
