This was Rod's sign off at the end of the night as the park was closing and people were streaming out. Twirling the umbrellas was standard choreography. All regulars new the routine. Often he'd say "One for the paycheck!" during the Mickey Mouse March.
schokolatita If you think that's tough, you should check out Ray Perkins' records on Brunswick from about 1926 where he plays and sings. Examples : "Do-Do-Do" and "Short and Sweet".
schokolatita The most stupendous Ray Perkins piano / vocal side I've heard is called "Following You Around" and is from 1927. It can be heard as the first track on this vintage music podcast from 2011: radiolablog.blogspot.com/2011/04/getting-bugs-out-april-29-2011.html?m=1

If facebook had existed in the 90s he would have been even more famous
Rod and I became really good friends. He lives in San Francisco now, playing at the Disney museum there.
I miss those good old days at the piano with Rod.
Hi, just to clarify, Rod still lives in Southern California. He performs at the Disney Museum in San Francisoc, several times a year.
I just called rod a few weeks ago, he's doing fine and is in good health. We've known each other since the early 1980s.
Good to know, thanks. I assumed he had moved there.
I have no clue how he manages to sing while playing the piano like that...
