    Hawks fan, loved every bit of the win and performance. But honestly, one bad loss and everyone jumping off the Pies. The Pies have been so good and so consistent for so long and found so many different ways to win. Even with the key injuries they have plenty of top players and players in form in the VFL who are itching for a chance. They deserve the benefit of the doubt to restructure things and bounce back from this set-back and I think they will.

    Have to wonder if with top spot and top 2 just about guarenteed the pies probably started a bit more intense training blocks leading up to the break for finals because they can afford to do it and lose a few on the back of some tired bodies after heavy trainings. Wouldn't be surprised if they come good.

      They still haven't overcome the dreaded Colliwobbles. Two premierships in 65 years since their 1958 Grand Final victory, and more Grand Final defeats during that time than the amount of fingers on both hands vindicates that. What we are seeing now is just a precursor to an even greater disaster for them in September.

      I've re-iterated exactly the same point myself several times during this past week or two. The Magpies can't just switch off now and then expect that they can just switch back on again once the finals commence, because it doesn't work like that.

    • @darrenmiles-morland8038
      @darrenmiles-morland8038 Před rokem

      @@skillsmachine9164 It was 96 points. The match was a whitewash. The Magpies didn't come to play because they had top spot sewn up, and the match was a dead rubber for them. They thought they they could just switch back on again once the finals commenced, and everything would be alright.. But they struggled to even make it to the Grand Final, and then in the Grand Final Geelong followed on from that final round smashing to keep them goalless in the last quarter and deny them back to back premierships.

    Last year, the one difference between Geelong and Collingwood in that Qualifying Final was Jeremy Cameron. Single-handedly won that game for Geelong.
    Mihocek had six touches and one goal. Ash Johnson had nine touches and two goals. Tom Hawkins had ten touches and one goal.
    Cameron had 17 touches, kicked three goals out of Geelong's 11, and was absolutely the difference.

      That's the reason why Collingwood won't win this week. They could afford to lose 2 of their last 3 matches and would still finish minor premiers. They've already put the cue in the rack. However, it's a dangerous practice what they're doing. It cost them back to back premierships back in 2011. It's also dangerous what Collingwood are doing because they have managed to successfully cover up so many of their weaknesses until now because they were good enough to win many matches that they had no right to be winning. It catches up with you in the end, and we are seeing it now. They would be flattered with their current position on the ladder. They're certainly not 2 games better than the next best lot of teams.

    Our forward line has always been lacking, it only looked good because we moved the ball so fast that opposition defence couldnt set up, giving our forwards great opportunity. Since teams have slowed our plays down, giving them time to set up defensively, it has gone back to exposing our weak forward set up.

      That’s like any team though isn’t it. Hawthorn’s forward structure has looked diabolical at times this season but when we play with speed and dominate centre clearances like we did at the weekend, Lewis, Breust, Wingard and Moore have more space or get first crack and look like the top crafty forwards that they are.

      that's exactly what i thought. In a year of suspensions, a bump after the mark with the intention to hurt, no eyes on the ball not only wasn't reported or looked at but wasn't paid a 50. No player should have to get hunted all game and and get injured after play with repercussions for the other team.

    Pies will be fine. But to be totally honest, how many games have they just won? Most of them. There's definite fragility with the pies for the last 2 years, they just won most of their close games. I think this year the standard of football is lower than previous recent years. Inconsistency isn't just something Collingwood and Port have experienced this year. Carlton are now favs, but they could go on a losing streak at any time.

    As much as we all love Craig McCrea and what he has brought to the table since his signing surely we have to start to question some of the tactical decision he and the other coaches are making. This along side weekly team selection is going to be the possible downfall or a possible premiership team.
    I understand the angle that he is coming from when wanting to worry mostly about how we play and about controlling what we can control from a team point of view but surely we have to respect opposition players and what they do against us. There has been a total disregard for key opposition players such as Charlie Cameron Curnow Steven may and this week James Sicily and those players almost single-handedly have taken games away from us. It's ok to acknowledge talent and to try and negate it as much as possible, like other teams do to us. Not looking forward to a rolling from the cats this Friday.
    Team selection on the other hand is extremely poor, senior players on their last legs such as Adams Mitchell Miochek Sidebottom and Pendlebury play week in week out and about a rolled ankle or tight groin away from hanging up the boots. They should be rested, as well as Murphy and daicos who week in week out are pushed pulled sat on and twisted around injuries were always going to happen. If these players were rested when sitting 2 games clear on top of the ladder it also gives other er players a chance to show what they have got to add. Bianco Carmichael Finn McCrae Ginnivan just to name a few. If these guys are required I guess we will see them for one game only just like we did with Krugers suprise random selection last finals series. Share the load selection staff keep guys fresh and keep the opposition guessing.
