If you toggle off Names and the HUD the FPS improves. You can do this via pressing and holding the map button. But when I do this it's the creatures that cause the FPS to drop especially in a large group.
I'm one of those player's who think the same way lol😅 what a waste of 60 or 70$... I haven't played this game in 2 years because they had a major bugg with the application crashing constantly.. I recently play ark 5 days ago an it's the same bs lag, graphics don't load fast enough whenever you change locations as well as the application crashed twice already.. I forgot to mention sometimes when loading up ark application the game is like swayey or whatever you call it when the picture an words are blurry and squiggly lines...
All those thing help with lag like freezing and crashing that’s why it doesn’t change the FPS if you are in a room with a lot of Dino’s turn off floating names and that makes a big difference

My wyvern looks like a triangle everytime I turn around or go away from my base and come back, then it takes like 5 seconds standing close to it to render back in

Nah, I’m on xbox one s and from making the graphics lower I only got a few more fps, I still can’t even reach 40 fps, I only have a chance at 40 fps if I stay looking up into the sky.
Light bloom dose make an actual good difference I build in carno usually on 4fps but when I use prev mode and light bloom off I get like 20 frames it’s actually very good
Turn on detailed graphics that might help but Ark doesn't run well anyway unfortunately, turn off bloom and light shafts to increase fps and lower brightness, it's much better on PS5 or XBSX

Yeah Ark is not very optimisted I'm afraid, it's better on PS5 but that costs a fair bit, Go to setting at start and turn off detail graphics, turn off motion blur, Vsync mode to adaptive helps and do not tick Light blooms or Light shafts will make it less bright in sky, which is too much, other that that maybe turn off floating names, although i prefer that on, hope this helps but it won't make a massive improvement just help a bit, I hope thats useful. Yeah your right, even on XB SX it still draws in which is a bit jarring, especially things like Santiago Spear, it's is still badly optimized 6 years after launch probably the worst of recent years.
The Series X update from Wildcard boosted it to up to 60 FPS with 4k Graphics, (Performance), if you put it on detailed graphics (Enhanced Visuals) in options it will be 30 FPS at 4k, no 120 fps yet.

It runs poorly on High detail, it not on Xbox Series X either, im only getting 15-20 fps at base with all my creatures and tower of Orthanc.

Xbox Options then Hold LB + RB and press X & Y buttons together, enter in box "Stat fps" without quotes, then select Admin window to the right.
To turn off fps just click on admin button again

No motion blur, no detail graphics, Vsynce mode off, light bloom off, lightshafts off, UI item scale max, UI general max, disable menu trans, HDR on, camera shake 1/4, blood overlays on, inventory sounds off,camera bob, allow hit markers, Everything else is default. If you want game settings (Singleplayer)they are, Diff lvl 0.5, taming speed x3, disable structure Placementl coll, nightime speed 0.85 (decreases), Everything else is Vanilla settings.
