      Corey Feldman wasn't in "Explorers" Ethan Hawke is who you're probably thinking of. The third kid, Jason Presson, didn't continue acting after the early 90s

    There is another SciFi from the 80s I loved as a kid called "inner space". Don't think I've seen it since then so I don't know if it holds up, but I have fond memories of it.

      I just rewatched it recently. it definitely holds up. if you get a chance, give it a fresh watch. there are probably things you missed as a kid that you'll pick up now.

      I think I saw Flight of the Navigator and Space Camp in the 1980's and I haven't really thought about either movie since then. That is, except for the fact that there was a real space camp at Huntsville or something.

      I had a classmate and a teacher who had bit parts in Space Camp. Kate Capshaw as a girl in the beginning, and also one of the technicians who says "Hey Jinx! Where the hell is that ratchet?"

    The movie that teams well with this one is "Explorers". 1985 young teen(s) get psychic dream messages on how to build a spaceship to meet-up with some aliens.

    Such an underrated film. It kind of answers the question "What if Elliot had gone with ET?"
    A few weeks ago, I asked my nephews if they had seen this movie and they replied in unison "Compliance." I never felt prouder to be an uncle.

      ...... Wtf.... Paul died!?!? How the frell did I miss that!!?!??? 😢 He was such a huge part of my childhood. I hated what he did, but he was such a great comedian. To me, he was as great as Mr. Rodgers... Even knowing the rumors of why Fred had to do the show as community service..... Which I think was disproved...
      Still loved as much as LeVar Burton, Bob Barker, Bob Ross, Kermit, and Elmo. No longer Cosby.

      The Captain Disillusion doc is very good. Highly recommended.
      He breaks it all down and is was indeed a technical masterpiece. I think it doesn't seem that way because of how good it actually was. At the time, people not in the industry but in the know, were impressed. The VFX wizards on that film used every trick in the book and innovated a few of their own to achieve those results.
      I was thoroughly amazed to learn about it all.
      You shan't be disappointed.

      Each speaker the same size as the component cabinet.
      Drop the needle on the freshly brushed LP, or pop in the CD if you were ballin'.
      Sit on the couch centered between the speakers and let it hang the entire album.

    11:24 - BLANCMANGE. English synth-pop band formed in Harrow, London, in 1979. The band were a duo for much of their career, comprised of Neil Arthur (vocals) and Stephen Luscombe (keyboards).     A favorite from my childhood. We even watched this in elementary school back in the 80s. The 80s was a great decade for kid adventure movies. Not just "The Goonies", but movies this, "D.A.R.Y.L." "Cloak and Dagger", and "Explorers" had a more serious tone to them. People actually got killed in some of those movies. I recommend all of them.

      @@jasonseipler2665 He's much better. He went to inpatient rehab and therapy and has even started taking acting classes. He's been hitting the convention circuit with his co-stars and has been doing really well.

    I always loved this movie, though as an adult, the first half involving David returning to his family, only to find that eight years have passed, and he's the exact same age, much to his understandable confusion, to be stronger than the second half. But then again, flying in a spaceship would appeal more to kids than the sci Fi thriller aspect.

      I thought Brave Little Toaster got something absurd like 13 sequels? Only ever saw the first one myself though. I just seem to remember it getting almost as much sequel overload as Land Before Time did. Only ever saw the first one of that as well. But I think it got something insane like 15 sequels.

      She did her parts in the film just for a paycheck. She refuses to acknowledge fans of the film if she is asked and has been filmed on Entertainment Tonight that she clearly does not remember what the movie was about.

    I remember the effects in this looked good in the 80's and its a nice kids movie. The cgi holds up well, shiny chrome sells the effect convincingly. As others have said more good 80's movies. Innerspace, Batteries not included, Short Circuit and Explorers.

      it's be even weirder if in that movie he was an old man looking out his old room just waiting for his younger self to show up
      "welcome home David", and knowing the future in what he could do, that he might travel back too far as one of the paths to take

    Fun Fact:
    Veronica Cartwright who portrays the mom (Helen Freeman) in this movie also portrayed Cathy Brenner in Hitchcock’s The Birds. She was also in Alien as Lambert, the Nostromo's navigator. It’s nice to see her in this movie.

    I was 11 when this came out! Our family decided to move to Vancouver Island from Ontario! Me, my mom and my sis! We drove there like 3,000 kms and mom made me navigator! A great memory and a great movie! Miss the 80's!

    Back when we could stay out late, play on the railroad tracks, hike down the cable line easement for miles, build tree forts and underground forts. We built a raft and shoved off down river, until it sank a dozen yards into the trip - Good Times.

    I've suggested this to a few reactors but I think this is the first actual reaction. Pioneering CGI (before T2) and referenced at the end of Galaxy Quest where they use the fireworks.
    The story behind the CGI (and the non-CGI effects that look CGIish) is pretty interesting too.

    I was 10 when I saw this in the cinema and it blew my tiny mind! I remember trying to draw pictures of the ship from memory afterwards as it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen and i was obsessed... this was when you had to wait for what seemed like a year after a film's release for it to come out on video.

    This is one of my favorite films from the 80s. And I love how the movie tricks the viewer twice at the beginning, first with the silver frisbee disk and then with the airship. Both times you think is that the UFO? And then a short time later a third time with the water tower.
