    A bit easier than Ghouls 'N' Ghosts ( • Amiga Longplay [124] G... ) but a lot more work was needed to finish the longplay due to some problems.
    I think I'm done using SPS/IPF (clean, unmodified versions of the games, not cracked or trained) disks as the games stops working too often. Just a few of the latest games stopped working properly (and more games before that... copy protection stuff?). Like, Last Ninja 3, the last boss wouldn't attack me and I couldn't attack him, the last boss' balls in Cool World couldn't be destroyed, and in this game when entering the door 13:26, it wouldn't load. Yes, I used proper settings and even 100% emulated floppy disk speed. Even tried replaying the levels and it still wouldn't work. So, I resorted to playing cracked versions instead, and tried to cheat my way to the same point where I got stuck, and continue from there, without cheats of course. This would of course cause the amount of lives, score, the weapon etc to change when the gameplay continues from the new version, so I've tried to used WinUAE's debugger tool to find the stuff in the memory and change it, but I don't always succeed. In LN3 I just skipped to the last level using a cheat code (or maybe it was a trainer), took hits from enemies till I had the same amount of health as I did when I got stuck, so the continuation would be seamless, but not really, as I couldn't find the score in memory, so that one changes, but I always mention these things in the description.
    In this game when it wouldn't load, I replayed the level, but the same thing happened again. So, I looked for a trained version where I could skip levels, and found one. I was so happy when I finally found the memory addresses (yup, plural) to the score, but then realized I also needed to get the fire weapon again (I found 2 trained versions, one with level skip but no weapon selector, and one with weapon select but no level skip). So I set out grinding, looking for enemies with those baskets until the weapon finally dropped, YAY! During the grinding I was tempted to just give up and like always, explain in the description why stuff changed (well, I explained it now anyway, even though I made it unnoticeable). When people use the debugger to cheat (I know there's Action Replay, but I've never used it), it's mainly score, money and lives. I had no idea how I would change the WEAPON, but I know it was probably possible, so didn't try, but ye, I found the weapon anyway.
    The game continued seamlessly and some new shit happened again. I defeated the boss/guardian at 15:42 and instead of saying "TAKE A KEY FOR COMING IN !" (lol on that grammar), it told me to FUCK OFF (that was my interpretation anyway) cuz the weapon I had SUCKED, so it sent me back to the level before this one to try and find a fucking crucifix. Here's a clip • Video .
    Now I really had to learn how to change the weapon via memory editing, which I finally did at the end of going on and off attempts over the course of 2 days :) (yeah, boring stuff so didn't try much each attempt). Yeah, I REALLY didn't want to replay the game from the beginning with the new disk version. So, I had a brilliant idea and managed to find the address for the weapon(s). The fire weapon is registered by game code as number 0 (0 fire, 1 lance, 2 axe, 3 crucifix, 4 knife). The second after I hit this boss/guardian with the final hit of fire, I changed the weapon to the crucifix, but not the icon. The icon was too much work, as it seemed to have several parts or something, but during testing I managed to change a couple of corners to the crucifix. It changes when the level loads anyway, so it looks right on the final boss level.
    And there we go, another longplay done. And instead of trying to find the crucifix by replaying from the level it sent me to, I saved you and me some time (you wouldn't want to watch those 2 last levels again, I'm sure, and I didn't want to play them). This is what I get for wanting to show as much as possible, or I would have kept the crucifix when I first got it, as it PWNED! Can attack faster with it and it also removes enemy projectiles when they hit each other! The fire weapon is probably the WORST one, and I used it most of all weapons, which made the game even harder.
    I could jump through walls. Like a lot of old games, there's no proper collision detection against corners of tiles, so if done properly, you can jump through them, which will mess up some stuff.
    I added a clip at the end showing the weapons + death. The sixth thingy thrown is not a weapon, it's the top part (said that instead of helmet as it did have more parts in it) of my armor, and it does no damage. -

    So only one loop required to beat it on the Amiga? That was nice of them.

      The Amiga was well known notorious for terrible arcade conversion. Some games might be a bit better than the average terrible conversion, but this doesn't make them good, because we know that the Amiga could do so much more, if coded the right way... A game as simple as the two Ghosts'n'X parts should be possible on an OCS Amiga as an 1:1 conversion. That's why reviews wheren't to nice with just an 'better than the others' game.

    Too bad for some missing details like some sound effects, the doors that do not open at the end of the level, the screams of certain enemies, etc. seem to have been in a hurry, almost lacking the time to finish it 100%. However one of the best conversions on the Amiga 500. Maybe some day some willing programmer will take the trouble to optimize it and refine it.

    • @skyzoo73
      @skyzoo73 Před rokem

      @IgaKoga I'm not questioning the great optimization work done to make it work on Amiga 500 ( with 1 meg), I'm just saying it would be nice if someone would implement those missing details even by requiring a little more ram.

      I'm sure the computer had a limited amount of channels it could use for sound if that's the reason, many Amiga ports of arcade titles often had limitations such as forcing players to choose between the music or sound effects during gameplay.
