    In 2013, the Knicks traded an unprotected 2016 first and two seconds for… Andrea Bargnani.

    So context as a Raptors fan, one of the reasons they traded OG is that he reportedly wanted to more offensive responsibility that he wasn't getting with Siakim, VanFleet, and then with Barnes coming in.
    My guess is you don't trade 5 picks for another high quality 3+D small forward if they actually expect OG to stay.

    • @SoulGaleo1992
      @SoulGaleo1992 Před 12 dny

      OG and Bridges can both start. If Paul George can play as a 6'8 shooting guard, then so can Bridges. Bridges is more of an off-the-dribble pull-up shooter anyways. Literally Paul George lite. Divenchenzo can come off the bench as your 6th man. The most shot attempts that OG averaged for a season in his career is 15. OG's strengths on offense is as a floor spacer, play finisher, and offensive rebounder. He's had ample opportunities to be "the guy" in Toronto post Khawhi. Thats just not his game, so i don't buy that rumor of him suddenly wanting to be heavily featured on offense. It's more believable that he wanted out because the Raptors were in no man's land and he could go to a better championship contender while still getting paid. Unless OG does something drastic, like firing his agent Sam Rose (son of Leon Rose the Knicks GM) he's most likely staying with the Knicks, assuming the Knicks don't lowball his market value.

    • @donovanmoore65
      @donovanmoore65 Před 12 dny

      True, but Mikal provides insurance and the best version of Mikal the Knicks need is not 20 pts Nets Mikal but 14pts DPOY candidate Mikal on the Suns when they went to the finals and had the best regular season record. Given that Randle is injury prone OG could still be a 2nd to 3rd option on this team, they just got deeper. As long as Mikal doesn't want the offensive role in NY he got with the Nets than OG might stay and get the larger role he wants too. Mikal is also playing with his college buddies so he might not care about touches as much for that reason as well.

    You have to be a bit more than a casual to understand why the value was there for the Knicks to trade those picks for Bridges. The way the CBA is today you can't have more than maybe 2 max contracts on your team, Bridges may not be an all-star as of today, but his contract is VERY team friendly. If you compare it to Paul George for example hes being paid 30+ more mil a year. These types of contracts are what is so valuable to a team like the Knicks who are in win now mode. Its much more than just that as well with team chemistry, age and what not. It is a situation where the value is hard to see but it is 100% there.

    Overpay? Are you trolling or what? The NYK had like a zillion picks that they were NEVER going to use, especially with the coach they have who would not play the level of guys they would get for these picks. In fact, it was for this very reason they accumulated these picks. A 27 year old Bridges just coming into his prime, a perfect fit for the NYK culture-wise, the potential missing piece to not just a, but potentially multiple championships? I'll take that over a 35+ year old, looking at soon being washed (but still wants to get PAID) Paul George any day of the week. He'd be a better fit in Philly, especially after this just happened. Plus, those picks will probably be between 25 and 30 with as good as the NYK will be for the next several years, so big whoop. And good for the Nets as well. They were badly in need of a rebuild and this trade will help kickstart that.
