Rooting for Bethany charging surf like this is all the motivation I need to get back in the water. I can't imagine how much determination and faith it takes to just paddle into those beasts, especially with so much offshore pushing you back. Huge respect to Bethany and all the lady chargers.
It's tough to watch her take so many donuts, hard enough for those girls to get into the waves with two arms much less one. Some good ones ridden , too many waves got through and you know how many of the chargers are watching it just stick to their stomach that they're not able to be out there. Oh well, they have they're shot at the title just the same

On a side note, I like the helmets, not that everyone has to wear them, personal choice, but when the best in the world do (JOB wearing it at Pipe) it normalizes safety equipment which is great. I ride horses and mine has saved me a few times in accidents. Cracked one through and didn’t even have a headache the next day.
A lot of people wouldn't of gotten back into the water after what happened to her ! But she goes out and charges the nasty old pipeline. On a pretty narly day. She has the heart of a lion. And the love of her sport is just amazing to see. I think she should have gotten a Award For Participating in the event She is a great role model for the younger generation. And to all of us. !!! Not many women have the courage to surf in these conditions. Respect to Bethany for her standing up to Pipeline and the WSL for her beliefs. Kudos to Vans for providing her a spot. She's part of the old guard. Not many contests left for her.
Most male surfers don’t have the courage to surf Pipe. And considering how little opportunity women have had to surf here at all these ladies charged HARD.
Bethany won by meritocracy. She is even better than most men in contest. Whish they do a full doc on her and HOW she paddles, duck dive, takes off etc...its just beyond unreal ..cheers Bethany!.❤

As current champion of the Palm Springs wave pool im heading to the North Shore anf gonna win tje Pipe Masters. Turtle said "when the wave break here..dont be there " that kinda wisdom will make mr dominate.
@OffDaLip HA ha. Turtle disappeared some years ago...was it a Tiger shark or Da Hui..? Personally speaking, I saw him snake the Bhodisafa during thr 50 year storm on a 50-foot wave at Bells Beach. Had no choice. FBI were waiting for him on the beach.
If Bethany had both arms she would be the queen of pipe. It’s amazing that she can do what she does with one arm. Charges as hard as anyone and paddles as hard as any of the girls with her handicap.

Back in the 2000s there was a women's comp at Pipe that was 10ft+. The girls got absolutely destroyed and they didn't hold the event after that. I wish there was a footage, but i've never seen it.
I'm wondering if having the Olympics at teahupoo might be setting up a similar clobbering for some ladies from non-powerhouse countries. I hope it's solid
That’s because back then it was pretty much impossible for women to get waves in that crowd. They rarely ever even bothered trying. It was just too aggro.
The thing about surfing as a sport is that the playing field is always different. You need the courage to send it even when all of your senses tell you not to. This is how you will make it as a pro surfer.
Jesus Christ, ya gotta root for Bethany just for her extreme effort, the fact she actually made it down one is unreal! The chicks were going for it, I'd be shocked but relieved if none got hurt.
All the ladies took poundings that day. I have seen pipe double to triple that size and I got wrecked on a 10 -12 ft backdoor pipe in the mid 80s and I'm still hurting from that train wreck. No helmets.
Is it just me or do most of the girls seem just a little slow to their feet compared to the men? Or do they just not have the same momentum into the wave as the men do? Something's up with the way most of them take-off that really hampers their entry.
They definitely seemed to have a deficit of paddle speed and power compared to the men. Most looked pretty sluggish in getting to their feet. Seemed like they didn't have enough power to get into the wave, so were standing at a point where they were just going to get flogged.
Exactly, it's pretty obvious, given the amount of failed take offs that women don't have enough paddling power to get into waves that jack up and go square like that, as for Bethany, it's almost suicidal, you gotta give her credit...
Pipes no joke and all these girls are great surfers. You get 20 minutes and need to get a couple sick tubes and this is what happens. Plus wasnt really good pipe. Shits not easy. Respect

Simply a difference of paddling power. Pipeline jacks up so fast that even a small paddling superiority makes a huge difference.
