I am a 67 woman who was advised by a surgeon to lose weight before surgery. With his medically advised plan I was able to lose 55 lb over about 6 months. I found my way to low carb and almost completely eliminated sugar and processed foods. The urge for high carb foods only took a few days to begin to be quite manageable with higher protein and fat foods. I now eat about 50 grams of carbohydrates a day. I have maintained the weight loss for about 18 months. I also do 16:8 intermittent fasting. I do occasionally have a limited amount of cake, cookies or salty snacks but don't beat myself up if I do. I enjoy them and move back to my plan. I enjoy berries and melons as my treat foods instead of chips and crackers. Feeling and looking better are my motivation when I would like to throw in the towel. As far as I not now when, why not at least try some new strategies and see if it might be easier than you thought it would be.

I’m 63 and a recent widow. I began following Dr Becky because I was 50 overweight and on too many medications I wanted to get off of. I lost weight and lost my sugar cravings, but used alcohol to relieve stress. It wasn’t until I quit alcohol that everything fell into place So far Ive lost 35 pounds and Im happy. I know the rest will come off naturally. Thank you, Dr Becky. ❤

I’m 63 and discovered how great it feels to live without sugar and grains a few years ago. I didn’t think it was possible for me and at first it seemed my cravings for sugar would win but something happened around week two. I felt full. I noticed I wasn’t constantly hungry. No more blood sugar spikes and the inevitable drop afterward. No more cravings. No more processed food for me. Just protein, vegetables, and healthy fats. I also find I’m less anxious because I’m not looking for my next sugar fix.

Colon surgery for a tumor was my wake-up call. After the surgery and good news, I decided that intermittent fasting was the best way to lose weight. 56 Lbs in 7 months and I can’t believe how manageable weight loss truly is. I continually went back to a famous weight loss company since I was 17, I’m nearly 70 now. What a waste of time, money and the stress on my body of always gaining back the weight. Thank you for all of your good advice.

I am in the middle of a 100 pound journey. I’ve lost just over 40 in just under 4 months. When I started reducing sugar and flour and carbs the weight started dropping off. I had years of chronic work related stress that I now actively manage. I was easily on my way to diabetes but understood I needed to make a change. It can be challenging at times. Mentally I want the junk food but even when I have small cheats I find it less satisfying. This was a great video and a good reminder to get started and keep moving forward. Thank you.

For me, this was one of your most inspirational videos! I lost 20 pounds (from 147 pounds to 127 pounds) over the course of six months. It was not easy - sometimes it’s the smaller amounts that you have to lose that are the hardest. It is a grind. I found that by making Sunday my free day I gave myself 500 extra calories to enjoy the foods that I enjoy- typically homemade bread! However, Sundays were also a practice day. A day to practice intuitive eating where I start thinking about what does my body want right now? What would I really reasonably enjoy? I get a little better each week it but some Sundays I’m a disaster and I just go for the bread. The other six days of the week aren’t so hard because I have my plan - it’s the free day that’s the challenge and it’s the free day that I’m constantly working on getting better at maintenance as opposed to reduction. You’re right ,no one said it would be easy, and it isn’t - but it isn’t impossible. I did it while getting through menopause and I feel better than when I was 35!

My weight loss came as a result of a health issue. My doctor said losing a little weight can help my issue so I took it seriously. Along the way, I just realized that I am only getting older and I need to fill my body with good things and take care of myself because no one will do it for me. An occasional treat is great but our society views treats as an everyday occurrence. I treat myself maybe 1x a week and allow myself a little piece of chocolate as dessert after a meal if I'm craving something sweet.

Dr. Becky, your channel is so amazingly HELPFUL and practical.💗🙌🏽👏🏽I’ve been on a healthy habits journey now for 13 months and I’m down 47 pounds so far. I have about 25 more pounds to go before I reach my goal weight. I’ll be 57 on the 7th of February and I have 6 more weeks to go before I see my primary care physician for my annual physical. I want to show him that I was SERIOUS about getting my health in much better shape and especially improving my A1C results. Following your suggestions for menopausal women by Intermittent Fasting, incorporating a low carb and Keto lifestyle, getting ample sleep to lower my cortisol levels, decreasing the use of sugar substitutes, and recently, purchasing your phenomenal book, “Zero Sugar ONE MONTH” has helped me in more ways than you will ever know! I always look forward to your videos in my emails when they post because I KNOW I can always count on you presenting material that will have a positive impact on us. Thank you so very much, Dr. Becky! You are truly a lifesaver!💗👏🏽👍🏽

Since last May I was on a journey to better eating, and better health. I set a realistic goal for myself, and had lost 40 lbs by December. I was ecstatic! (At 62, borderline diabetic, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and just miserable with my weight, I knew I had to do something.) Once reaching my goal, I knew I could set another one to lose more to at least get within 10 lbs of a safe weight for my age, and height....which is roughly 10 more lbs. Well, it just wasn't happening, and as a result of getting discouraged I began to gain, and crave sweets again. So, today after seeing this video I am once again encouraged, and will get back to my healthy eating. Thankfully I only gained 8 lbs of the 40 lbs back, but I know I can do this! Thank you for your videos 😊

I was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 years ago, with a starting A1C of 13. I got my A1C back to 5.5 and completely normal bloodwork in 8 months with low carb. But after a couple years, our life took a turn and ended up in very stressful situations and living with outside parties for over a year. My husband is very supportive and eats what eat, but these others were not. I spiraled down, and now we are back to independence, but the carb addiction is still kicking me. Just this week, I got back on track with low-carb eating. This message is just what I need to hear, Dr. Becky, so thank you so much. I wrote down your four points, summed up with "Don't settle....go for FREEDOM!!!" I'll be using that in the coming months. God bless you and Doctor Keith for all the help you give to others.

I am 57 and disabled. My main challenge is balance, I consequently fall a lot. The injury that caused my disability was in 1994, and about 2-3 years after that I realized that when I weigh less, my falls aren't so painful, consequential. Prob was I wasn't medically overweight. I was about mid-, acceptable range on all the charts. Thankfully, I found DB pretty quickly. She got me doing low-carb, high fat, working out. All this led to about a 20-pound weight loss. I've been there ever since. And sticking with DB has majorly kept me there. Now, my falls are more inconsequential and seldom. Thanks, DB. Love 😘🤛

I was 58 years old, 40 lbs overweight, and knew my health depended on my finding a way to eat that would help me lose weight that I could sustain. I adopted a Mediterranean type diet, nearly eliminated ultra processed foods, and lost all 40 lbs. And that was 5 years ago. I was overweight almost my whole life, I am living proof that losing it, keeping it off, and loving how you eat can be done. I feel sooooo much better than I did when I was eating the cookies, bread, and ice cream. I truly do not miss that type of food. It took 6 months to make the change, but will lead to decades of a more enjoyable life. I joined a small group to help me make the change, something to consider, they really helped.

This was a great video today. I lost 35 between Memorial Day to sometime in the fall. I went from 16 down to 10-12 in pant size and from large to medium in tops at age 70. I love walking, but it’s not as much fun in colder temperatures. I did cheat more in recent holiday months, and keep getting back to the diet most of the time. I keep fighting a return of up to 5 pounds because of holidays and winter. This diet gives hope for maintenance. Spring is coming. I love the lifestyle change this diet brings. Exploration with vegetable and spice options have become surprisingly adventurous, not a chore.

Love these truly helpful, life changing and life celebrating videos! At 62 I am finally eating a healthy, fulfilling diet. As a yoyo and emotional eater it took me decades to consider these 4 sayings as possible ways to create a solid relationship with (myself!!!) food. This time, eating low carb, doing Intermittent fasting, and planning glorious meal prep it took me over a year to accomplish my goal weight. It's been 3 years eating this way and I attribute my success not only to looking at the long end, but also having the goal of self love, nourishment, and "fall back is not failure" attitude. (NOT that it is always my go to, lol.) However, I now expect to be imperfect, at times, but jump back to the big picture, a picture where I succeed, flourish and enjoy a healthy diet. I Thank you, Dr. Becky for all your help. Hang in there People; you are worth the effort.

I had 40 lbs to loose and I kept losing 5 lbs and then putting it back on and I knew the reason why, but didn't act on it. This past September I decided I am done with the extra weight and needed to do something. All my weight is in the front, around my middle and that is not good. I looked at my eating habits and I was eating really well during the week, but on the weekends I would allow myself bread, chips, etc. and I would gain back what I lost during the week. I decided to eat well 7 days a week, BUT allow myself 1 "treat" during the weekend. I am not a sweet eater, but I now allow myself a little piece of 100% cacao which has no sugar. I kept the same exercise schedule (weights + light cardio) and decided losing the weight slowly is the goal. I do not do not fast, but eat 3 meals a day with a mid-morning snack, plus I do not under eat. I do weight myself twice per day, when I wake up and before bed and record. I found doing this a good tool for myself so I could see what foods affected me. If I happened to gain a couple of pounds my thought process is that it is not 2 lbs of fat, but most likely water weight. I have now 29 lbs to go.

One of my favorite sayings is your 0,1,2,3 plan. It has helped me tremendously. Another is you can’t eat it if it’s not in the house. When I slip I try to get back on track immediately instead of giving in and going all out. My “ now” was two years ago this month when I started low carb & intermittent fasting and your 0,1,2,3. After losing nearly 100 pounds I keep reminding myself I’m not going back to that unhealthy me. I’m off all meds and reversed my diabetes. I’m not going back!

I have given up bread and refined sugar. I hear about amazing results from that alone and because I’ve only lost about a pound a month since October so I’m thinking this is not enough. It’s so tricky and individual! The best part of giving up processed carbs really cut my cravings and gave me motivation to get more exercise. I’ve recently started doing more strength building so I can hope that I’m gaining some muscle. I still can pinch quite a few inches!! I really like your sane and positive approach.
PS I have played around with clean keto and IF and while it’s an enjoyable way for me to eat I’m not sure it’s a fit for me. I never know how long to give an approach or a change.

I started eating whole food instead of packaged, processed foods in May of last year. I didn’t have much weight to lose but I wanted to feel better. I did lose 14 pounds and 3% of body fat. I do 14:10 intermittent fasting and I only eat 3 meals per day. I make sure I eat enough to be satiated so I don’t want any snacks. My sweet tooth has definitely diminished, I can’t believe how sweet a cherry tomato actually is, and berries! Even 90% cacao chocolate, it’s almost too sweet. I used to have a little chocolate after a meal, I don’t crave it anymore. ( I do have a piece of sugar free gum though). The main reason I started eating better is so that I would feel better. I know sugar, flour and seed oils are inflammatory and just so bad for gut health. I feel good and feeling better in my clothes is a bonus 😊

Hi Dr Becky 8months down the line husband looking great lost over 5 1/2 stone going on our first holiday and looks like a new man and just turned 73. I think at first as the person cooking for him I was a bit overwhelmed and worried about putting meals together that would satisfy his appetite but your book intermittent fasting diet has some great recipes in it.I think the bread recipe has been fantastic and I found a way of making bread buns out of the mixture. I feel this diet has changed his attitude towards how he looks and wants to keep looking in the future ( gorgeous😂) Thank you so much todays video was brilliant.

Dr. Becky, your videos really help keep me on track. I’ve cut sugar to a minimum, but the real weight loss happened when I gave up bread. And it wasn’t that hard. I guess my body didn’t really need it.
I’ve lost 20 lbs. and have been stable for about 4 months now. I don’t feel I need to lose more but will try to maintain this weight. And I’ll keep watching your great videos.

80 lbs down and kept off for over two years. Off three blood pressure medications, lab work now excellent. I am 70+ in age. We eat low carb using easy meals and enjoy eating and living life. No more being hungry after a meal where sugar in all of its forms. 🎉

Finally got it thru my head about " dont bring it into the house". It was hard to avoid the junk food aisle for a little while, but now not a problem. I used to stop at Wendy's while shopping, now I eat a healthy meal before I leave the house. The changes are only hard at first, then it becomes a lifestyle-- you won't feel those cravings forever!!!

I'm in my 50s and have got back to a healthy weight (and reversed my idiopathic neuropathy) through following the strategies that you encourage! Happily I am at the point where losing weight is not my goal anymore ! Having a goal is valuable for me to stay on track.... how do I keep this up (how do I define this journey to keep the healthy habits?) I need it as a goal. I bet you have heard them all

A year ago at age 70, I was suffering in many ways due to a reaction to a particular "vaccine". I was struggling to walk 40 yards, this was sudden and very unusual for me. I went for a blood test and the doctor rang me the very next morning and said I needed urgent antibiotics as I had high levels of inflammation. After that course of tablets I went for a chat about the blood results and he also told me I had Glucose levels of pre-diabetes. Everything else was normal.
I watched your videos, bought a glucose monitor, went to 16:8 fasting and cut the carbohydrates to less than 20g a day. Now I only cook fresh foods following your sheet of recommended food. I have lost 12 kilos weight which feels great , my blood glucose is normal in the mornings and I plot in excel the results and it is amazing how stable now my blood glucose is at the "normal" level. This is not a diet, it is an improvement in lifestyle. I am very sensitive to bread it seems.
I have no wish to have any processed foods and enjoy literally living like a king with fresh protein, steak, cheese and more fish than before, mainly sardines and allowing my weight to slowly reduce. I'm in no hurry, it works for me.

I am down 80 pounds in the last three years. Still have 20 to go. Biggest key is NO SUGAR. After you suffer through sugar withdrawal (a week or two). To help with sugar withdrawal, don't limit your portions and when you have cravings, snack on fat (nuts and chees). The cravings dry up after you finish sugar withdrawal, then the urge to snack goes away, and portion control is automatic.

My husband would not diet, so I decided to get as fat as him so he could see how unhealthy it was. He didn't even notice that I got fatter. It was then that I decided that it was time to feed myself healthy food, and he could eat it with me or fix his own meals. I've lost 55 lbs in a year, and he has gained another 15. I'm responsible for me, he's responsible for him.

our turning point was recognizing that no matter how often or hard we exercise, fat can not be burned until carbs are burned... and that following a low carb diet of organic foods was the key to feeling great. Life is good when you feel good.

My issue is the last 5kg to lose. I fast and do well with proper food and feel satisfied till about 2pm. Then the voice kicks - done really well …. Have a little bit of this and a little bit of that. . Just cannot kick the mid afternoon chocolate hit. Keep telling myself I can cut back calories later at dinner. I’m almost scared the world May run out of “reward” foods.

Just wondering what chocolate you consume? My choice is Lindt 90% bars; I take the ten squares and break them all in quarters, and then only eat three or four quarters. That's about 0.4 ounces of chocolate that has very little sugar. I do notice how "sweet" their 85% bars taste, after eating the 90% bars for a while.

    • @Fergusayo
      @Fergusayo Před 4 měsíci

Thanks - for the feedback on the Lindt 90%. I'm a regular lover of the 85% Lindt if the staff treats (usually m&ms) are nowhere nearby. I guess it's just time to say "if not now... when?)" Today has been different. Hand went to the jelly babies in the staff kitchen and didn't touch them. Change in thinking from the "poor me victim" to I'm choosing this path. @@j.patrickmoore9137
