KOI POND BUILD (PT. 1)

- This is part one of a two part series of my koi pond build. I started this pond over a year ago but got overwhelmed with how much footage I had (8 hours)in this video I get all the hard stuff out of the way like digging the hole and make the shape, get the liner on, run the pump and install all the lights all the technical stuff, in the NEXT video is where it gets fun with all of the plants and decorations and fish. Make sure y’all remember, koi should be in at least a 1000 gallon pond, don’t give ur fish a habitat that’s to small. Great video and love the pond!
also remember that you still have to fully cycle a pond and that can take up to 6 weeks
I plan on building a bigger pond for them once they get larger, most of the ones in here were from PetSmart in 20 gallon aquariums. I’m glad that you liked the video thank you(:

Watched both videos....the finished pond is so beautiful! You make it look so easy 😂! I really love all of the landscaping! It looks amazing at night! You should be very proud of how magical it looks! How big will the coy get and is there only one?PEACE
Thank you(: I’m glad you enjoyed them! They looks even better now that’s what I love about ponds is they get better with age as the plants grow in and stuff. To be honest I’m not sure how big they get exactly this is my first time owning koi but I know they get fairly large, I’m sure it depends on the size of the pond though I know if you keep certain fish in small ponds they stay small and if you keep them in a large pond they grow bigger so I think that’s the case with these guys! I know they will grow more but to what size is the question lol. If they get TOO big I’ll prob have to make a bigger pond lol
How did you get the plastic liners to not leak between the seams? Duct tape?
no seams it’s all one piece, duct tape would fail i would use seam tape its fairly cheap

i’m so glad you enjoyed it! i used the 3600 GPH pump from home depot. i think the brand was “Totalpond” but any pump should work (: the bigger the more water of course
where do you put the dirt afterwards that the problem Im facing at the moment
luckily we had a big hole in the yard from the trailer that needed filling so i just put it there, you can spread it throughout the yard evenly or post it on facebook marketplace or similar

Just depends! I was slacking pretty hard it took a couple months but at my old job we used to build ponds like this in a day

I know, I didn’t have much money at the time but Looking back on it now I definitely should have went with a thicker liner. Oh well there’s plenty of ponds to come

seems like a tiny pond, esp as koi grow, they have nowhere to swim…😢
considering the koi were originally in 20 gallon aquariums I think they will be alright, I plan on building an even bigger one soon so don't worry(:
Pretty’s sure they’ll only grow as large as the habitat will allow seeing as how plenty of people have even smaller koi ponds
