So after watching your video, I abandoned the RV latch/deadbolt entirely and installed a regular old residential door deadbolt. The door comes out to 1 3/8" thickness with the skin and the interior 3/8 ply--that's interior door thickness. You only need 2 1/8" and 1" hole saws. Removing the ply from the inside gets you a view of the square tubing and angle frame. So much easier. So I have to say THANK YOU for putting this video up so I could see how difficult the RV latch install was :)
Good video, as soon as I noticed the cut out for the latch on the door front I new you have done it wrong, you cut out for the latch part on the inside, slide the front part in and the latch cut out on the inside will avoid the mess at the front.
You take the five or six screws off the back in the deadbolt piece will remove then you put it in and then you have to screw the deadbolt piece back on it's just like when you put a door handle on a regular house door
Thank you Brian, I’ve been searching for a “How to” on installing my door lock and yours was very helpful. I too am converting a cargo trailer to a camper an can use all the advise I can get. Good luck on your conversion, I’m on FB’s Cargo trailer conversion page if I can be of any help to you.
I just got Interstate LoadRunner and am thinking about the same. Took out inside door plywood and going nowhere after seeing the steel tubes (one you cut, another one 7 in left and steel plate welded in between). Thanks for uploading.
I had the same problem! We took a piece of laminate flooring I had left over from doing the floor and cut a piece just like the rubber seal around the back of it but big enough to cover that hole. It doesn’t look perfect but it works!
"It is what it is" - yeah - butchered is another word - and why use wood screws? At least you can cover it up, creating more work for you - but your video reveals what you did. I have always liked guys who make mistakes - at least they are trying to get something done and that beats the crap out of the arm-chair quarterbacks that never make a mistake because they never actually do anything except criticize others.😉 Give me the guy that makes mistakes every damn time. 👍👍
A good tool to use is the oscillating tool with Diablo metal blade the blade will be garbage after the job but it does exact work leave it to a construction guy lol peace out
Good video. The first one is always the hardest. Do you know the part number to the latch you bought. It looks pretty nice and good quality. Thank you and good luck on the build.
If you take the material off the non latch side you have the room to slide it in and not have any gaps.... you take the wood off the inside as well so you have plenty of room to work
If you are converting a cargo trailer you should have an emergency exit window installed so getting locked in randomly should really not be a concern. U can also install a secondary latch on the outside of the trailer yo lock that exterior bar to when not in use.
We just installed a couple heavy duty hook and eye latches on either side of the rear door. God forbid we ever need to bail, we have an easy escape route.
Got the load runner 5x8 cargo trailer, swing door on the rear with this same swing latch style. Anyone know if the RV style can be a success on the rear door? I dont see why it wouldnt work but im trying to avoid punching out a side door and figured this would be a good route for the rear door. Any info would help, thanks!
Absolutely messed that door up but I learned a lot from you hackery so I just had to jump on and say thank you.

Haha, learn from my mistake:)
I saw a video on installing deadbolt too and like that idea!!
Great idea 💡 I will be doing the same .

Thanks for posting. I’m looking at installing a similar latch on my cargo trailer and would like to avoid hacking up the door. This was super helpful!

Yeah it was a pain, but go get yourself a drumel tool, it makes the job easier.
We’re in the process of installing the cabinets now.

Good job
Nice job, thanks!

Good video, thanks for sharing...

Yeah, i butchered the hell out of it… lesson learned:(
Yeah you hacked up that door pretty good, lol. It's all good though; it's better than having STS (Shiny Truck Syndrome).
I've only heard of one person getting locked in, prankster or not; however, I do intend to let them out later this evening
Wouldn't mind locking my wife in there..........with me LOL I know what you were thinking
Haha
I think I'll just use a padlock latch from the inside.

Thank you and good suggestions. We’ve been talking and planning about an emergency exit plan . I’ll post another video when we figure that out:)

Just cut a square of diamond plate to put around it
You said Dillon beach - Bodega Bay??
The bottom dead bolt key hole won’t let the key insert. Any idea on how to fix
Sorry I don’t, can you return it? Or buy another one same model and return the defective one.
The trailer company I bought it from was giving me the runaround. I guess I’ll have to order one from Amazon

Maybe you should have done some research before you destroyed your door
hindsight yes. I thought it would be straight forward and not run into steel… I hope everyone can learn from my mistakes:)
@@4x2WagonFamily Ah don't sweat it, there's always a fix to bumbles, you can -re-reinforce it.
OMG!!!! did you use an axe to cut that hole?
Lol, pretty much. I should have taken the inside wood panel off to expose the steel. Plus the the door was hollow:(
I’m doing it today.... I’m using a grinder. Should be a lot better. I guess I’ll let you know
That door looks ruined.... Lol
Nice try
That’s a hack job. Cutting that square tube really weaken the strength of that door.
I know:) don’t make the same mistake. Cheers
There are better tools to do cut out….his rough in looked like a murder scene.
Hack job
